    Integrated modelling for sustainability assessment and decision making of alternative fuel buses

    In this paper, a hybrid life cycle sustainability assessment (LCSA) model integrating multi region input–output analysis with novel multi-criteria decision-making techniques is proposed to assess three different fuel alternatives: compressed natural gas (CNG), electric buses (EBs), and diesel buses (DBs). A global hybrid LCSA model first quantified the environmental, economic, and social impacts of alternative fuel buses. The results were investigated in terms of multiple combinations of manufacturing and end-of-life scenarios by encompassing impacts embedded in the global supply chains taking Qatar as a case applied to the proposed model. The Interval-Valued Neutrosophic Fuzzy (IVNF)-Analytic Hierarchy Process with the Combined Compromise Solution (CoCoSo) approach is used to rank the alternative fuel buses based on their corresponding sustainability performance. The proposed model will help in quantitatively capturing the macrolevel life cycle socioeconomic and environmental impacts along with optimally selecting alternatives to support sustainable urban transport policy towards a net-zero transportation system globally

    The fundamental problems related to uncertainty in quantitative risk analyses, used in decision making in safety-related issues (for instance, in land use planning and licensing procedures for hazardous establishments and activities) are presented and discussed, together with the different types of uncertainty that are introduced in the various stages of an analysis. A survey of methods for the practical treatment of uncertainty, with emphasis on the kind of information that is needed for the different methods, and the kind of results they produce, is also presented. Furthermore, a thorough discussion of the arguments for and against each of the methods is given, and of different levels of treatment based on the problem under consideration. Recommendations for future research and standardisation efforts are proposed

    The present study provides a review of the most diffused technical and non-technical performance indicators adopted worldwide by infrastructure owners. This work, developed within the European COST Action TU 1406—“Quality specifications for roadway bridges, standardization at a European level,” aims to summarize the state-of-art maintenance scheduling practices adopted by bridge owners, mainly focusing on the identification and classification of the most diffused performance indicators (PIs). PIs are subdivided in technical and non-technical ones: for this latter subclass, PIs are classified in environmental, social and economic-targeted.     Method and approach Mapping for Agri-food Supply Chain Risk Management: A literature review

    One of the agri-food characteristics is perishable product which made it has a higher chance damage risk from the farmer to the consumer. While issues around food security and associated risks are extremely important. Some methods or approaches have been used to identify and assess risks that occur in agri-food supply chain. The purpose of this paper was to identify the development of methods or approaches used to identify and assess the risks that occured in the agri-food supply chain. The articles search was undertaken through articles search on selected relevant journals of supply chain risk management for agri-food published from 2004 until 2014. A total of 77 randomly selected journal articles had been analyzed. These mapping were arranged in systematic stages, started from searches related supply chain risk management for agrifood. Furthermore, the articles identified and classified the methods or approaches for each stage of supply chain risk management, and were divided into three main stages: risk identification, risk assessment and risk mitigation. The last, the articles of risk identification are categorized into three groups : qualitative, semi-quantitative and qualitative.The mapping results showed that risk assessment supply chain for agri-food was much related to microbiology risk assessment. It related to the characteristics of agri-food products. Standard models used for risk assessment in supply chain for agri-food were based on integration of statistical analysis and simulation. The other techniques used included intelligent technique, optimization models and multi-criteria decision analysis. The literature on supply chain risk management for agri-food is so vast, complex and difficult to understand that a mapping of method and approach is needed and much value for the research community.     Uncertainty in life cycle costing for long-range infrastructure. Part I: leveling the playing field to address uncertainties

    Purpose Life cycle costing (LCC) is a state-of-the-art method to analyze investment decisions in infrastructure projects. However, uncertainties inherent in long-term planning question the credibility of LCC results. Previous research has not systematically linked sources and methods to address this uncertainty. Part I of this series develops a framework to collect and categorize different sources of uncertainty and addressing methods. This systematization is a prerequisite to further analyze the suitability of methods and levels the playing field for part II. Methods Past reviews have dealt with selected issues of uncertainty in LCC. However, none has systematically collected uncertainties and linked methods to address them. No comprehensive categorization has been published to date. Part I addresses these two research gaps by conducting a systematic literature review. In a rigorous four-step approach, we first scrutinized major databases. Second, we performed a practical and methodological screening to identify in total 115 relevant publications, mostly case studies. Third, we applied content analysis using MAXQDA. Fourth, we illustrated results and concluded upon the research gaps. Results and discussion We identified 33 sources of uncertainty and 24 addressing methods. Sources of uncertainties were categorized according to (i) its origin, i.e., parameter, model, and scenario uncertainty and (ii) the nature of uncertainty, i.e., aleatoric or epistemic uncertainty. The methods to address uncertainties were classified into deterministic, probabilistic, possibilistic, and other methods. With regard to sources of uncertainties, lack of data and data quality was analyzed most often. Most uncertainties having been discussed were located in the use stage. With regard to methods, sensitivity analyses were applied most widely, while more complex methods such as Bayesian models were used less frequently. Data availability and the individual expertise of LCC practitioner foremost influence the selection of methods. Conclusions This article complements existing research by providing a thorough systematization of uncertainties in LCC. However, an unambiguous categorization of uncertainties is difficult and overlapping occurs. Such a systemizing approach is nevertheless necessary for further analyses and levels the playing field for readers not yet familiar with the topic. Part I concludes the following: First, an investigation about which methods are best suited to address a certain type of uncertainty is still outstanding. Second, an analysis of types of uncertainty that have been insufficiently addressed in previous LCC cases is still missing. Part II will focus on these research gaps
