Deriving item features relevance from collaborative domain knowledge
An Item based recommender system works by computing a similarity between
items, which can exploit past user interactions (collaborative filtering) or
item features (content based filtering). Collaborative algorithms have been
proven to achieve better recommendation quality then content based algorithms
in a variety of scenarios, being more effective in modeling user behaviour.
However, they can not be applied when items have no interactions at all, i.e.
cold start items. Content based algorithms, which are applicable to cold start
items, often require a lot of feature engineering in order to generate useful
recommendations. This issue is specifically relevant as the content descriptors
become large and heterogeneous. The focus of this paper is on how to use a
collaborative models domain-specific knowledge to build a wrapper feature
weighting method which embeds collaborative knowledge in a content based
algorithm. We present a comparative study for different state of the art
algorithms and present a more general model. This machine learning approach to
feature weighting shows promising results and high flexibility
A Hybrid Web Recommendation System based on the Improved Association Rule Mining Algorithm
As the growing interest of web recommendation systems those are applied to
deliver customized data for their users, we started working on this system.
Generally the recommendation systems are divided into two major categories such
as collaborative recommendation system and content based recommendation system.
In case of collaborative recommen-dation systems, these try to seek out users
who share same tastes that of given user as well as recommends the websites
according to the liking given user. Whereas the content based recommendation
systems tries to recommend web sites similar to those web sites the user has
liked. In the recent research we found that the efficient technique based on
asso-ciation rule mining algorithm is proposed in order to solve the problem of
web page recommendation. Major problem of the same is that the web pages are
given equal importance. Here the importance of pages changes according to the
fre-quency of visiting the web page as well as amount of time user spends on
that page. Also recommendation of newly added web pages or the pages those are
not yet visited by users are not included in the recommendation set. To
over-come this problem, we have used the web usage log in the adaptive
association rule based web mining where the asso-ciation rules were applied to
personalization. This algorithm was purely based on the Apriori data mining
algorithm in order to generate the association rules. However this method also
suffers from some unavoidable drawbacks. In this paper we are presenting and
investigating the new approach based on weighted Association Rule Mining
Algorithm and text mining. This is improved algorithm which adds semantic
knowledge to the results, has more efficiency and hence gives better quality
and performances as compared to existing approaches.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, 2 table
Chiron: A Robust Recommendation System with Graph Regularizer
Recommendation systems have been widely used by commercial service providers
for giving suggestions to users. Collaborative filtering (CF) systems, one of
the most popular recommendation systems, utilize the history of behaviors of
the aggregate user-base to provide individual recommendations and are effective
when almost all users faithfully express their opinions. However, they are
vulnerable to malicious users biasing their inputs in order to change the
overall ratings of a specific group of items. CF systems largely fall into two
categories - neighborhood-based and (matrix) factorization-based - and the
presence of adversarial input can influence recommendations in both categories,
leading to instabilities in estimation and prediction. Although the robustness
of different collaborative filtering algorithms has been extensively studied,
designing an efficient system that is immune to manipulation remains a
significant challenge. In this work we propose a novel "hybrid" recommendation
system with an adaptive graph-based user/item similarity-regularization -
"Chiron". Chiron ties the performance benefits of dimensionality reduction
(through factorization) with the advantage of neighborhood clustering (through
regularization). We demonstrate, using extensive comparative experiments, that
Chiron is resistant to manipulation by large and lethal attacks
Trust- and Distrust-Based Recommendations for Controversial Reviews
Recommender systems that incorporate a social trust network among their users have the potential to make more personalized recommendations compared to traditional collaborative filtering systems, provided they succeed in utilizing the additional trust and distrust information to their advantage. We compare the performance of several well-known trust-enhanced techniques for recommending controversial reviews from Epinions.com, and provide the first experimental study of using distrust in the recommendation process
