    Alternative Lines of Action for the Design of Online Multimedia Material Directed towards the Collaborative Training of Teachers in the Design of the Teaching

    The aim of the study was to evaluate the potential for online multimedia materials as alternative learning tools for the collaborative training of teachers in the design of research-based teaching. A case study using a team of three trainee teachers was used to develop a process of initial training in the design of a constructivist and research-based teaching unit supported by online multimedia material. The results obtained from the research allowed some principles to be identified, and basic recommendations and alternative lines of action to be given for designing online multimedia materials. Online multimedia materials can be alternative teaching tools that contribute (with other materials) to the development of constructivist, collaborative and research-based strategies which help provide the necessary support for improving the initial and ongoing training of new teachers in the design of teaching from a research perspectiv

    Contribution-based priority assessment in a web-based intelligent argumentation network for collaborative software development

    Decision making is an important aspect of the collaborative software development process which usually involves complex process of conflict resolution. Stakeholders approach decision making process from multiple perspectives and their priorities play a vital role in it. The priority assessment methods used in the argumentation process so far are usually static. Priorities remain constant throughout the decision making process. In order to make the collaborative system more closely replicate real-world scenarios, this work incorporates dynamic priority assessment into a web-based collaborative system which is based on intelligent computational argumentation. It evaluates priorities dynamically for each cycle of decision process based on contribution of individual participant. The contribution is assessed based on the impact of each participant\u27s arguments on a winning design alternative. More successful participants have higher priorities in argumentations during collaboration.     A smart performance measurement approach for collaborative design in Industry 4.0

    Industry 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution, focuses on intelligent and smart manufacturing. This article investigates a smart design performance measurement approach, which can be utilized to support performance measurement implementation during a collaborative design process. First, we develop a smart product design framework with Industry 4.0 enabling technologies to support key design stages in an iterative fashion. Second, based on this framework, we propose a smart design performance measurement approach to potentially support a smart product design project management via its performance management. Third, we adapt our existing design performance measurement, for a traditional design environment into a smart design environment at its early stage to test its feasibility. This approach features integration of a flexible performance measurement setup, a multi-feedback design performance measurement mechanism and a multiple design performance measurement results presentation which allows the design performance measurement approach to produce flexible and customized operations by connecting design performance measurement with the stage-based design objectives, balancing design performance measurement feedbacks through interoperability between collaborative design team members and providing real-time design performance measurement results to guide design activities. An empirical industrial evaluation case study indicates that the proposed design performance measurement approach can support design team members in improving their collaborative design performance

    Methodology for the definition of the optimal assembly cycle and calculation of the optimized assembly cycle time in human-robot collaborative assembly

    AbstractIndustrial collaborative robotics is an enabling technology and one of the main drivers of Industry 4.0 in industrial assembly. It allows a safe physical and human-machine interaction with the aim of improving flexibility, operator's work conditions, and process performance at the same time. In this regard, collaborative assembly is one of the most interesting and useful applications of human-robot collaboration. Most of these systems arise from the re-design of existing manual assembly workstations. As a consequence, manufacturing companies need support for an efficient implementation of these systems. This work presents a systematical methodology for the design of human-centered and collaborative assembly systems starting from manual assembly workstations. In particular, it proposes a method for task scheduling identifying the optimal assembly cycle by considering the product and process main features as well as a given task allocation between the human and the robot. The use of the proposed methodology has been tested and validated in an industrial case study related to the assembly of a touch-screen cash register. Results show how the new assembly cycle allows a remarkable time reduction with respect to the manual cycle and a promising value in terms of payback period

    Business process management and supply chain collaboration: a critical comparison

    The link between a firm and supply chain (SC) members has been recognised as one of the key issues for ensuring business success and achieving competitive advantage. Indeed, working across organisational boundaries is required to accomplish effective responses to customers’ needs. Our preliminary research confirmed that there are positive relationships between business process management (BPM), supply chain collaboration (SCC), collaborative advantage and organisational performance. This study is a step further and uses a multiple case design to illuminate the results and gain a greater understanding from extensive discussions about these relationships. By means of semi-structured interviews, the three main issues were identified as: (1) the link between BPM and organisational performance; (2) the link between BPM and SCC; and (3) the contextual factors and benefits achieved from working collaboratively with SC partners. The different scenarios of the link between BPM and SCC were developed in a taxonomy, and the case studies were used to illustrate the experience of intra- and inter-organisational practices in the developing economy of Thailand. The case studies’ results explain in depth that both BPM and SCC are important for improving organisational performance and competitiveness. BPM not only improves organisational performance directly, but also assists with collaborative activities that in turn help to improve internal capabilities. Additionally, the comparisons in issues relating to firm size, industry type, relationship closeness and relationship length were also included in this study

    The role of the hub-firm in developing innovation capabilities:considering the French wine industry cluster from a resource orchestration lens

    Abstract Purpose This paper explores how hub-firms in a regional industrial cluster orchestrate resources to enhance the innovation capabilities of member firms and how this role changes as innovation projects develop. The work advances our understanding of how innovation-oriented clusters can drive the collaboration process, support the development of member capabilities and achieve desired outcomes. Design/methodology/approach The research utilises exploratory case studies within an innovation cluster, where a hub-firm brings together different players for specific innovation projects. Using resource orchestration theory, the paper analyses six project cases to reveal the shifting roles and activities related to structuring, bundling and leveraging different resources for innovation capabilities particularly associated with improved quality and reputation for the firms and region. Findings The study reveals the important role played by the cluster hub-firm in structuring, bundling and leveraging resources to create and fund project teams. After project formation, a team member takes the role of an orchestrator to bundle further and then leverage the resources to achieve desired outcomes for the team and the region. Research limitations/implications This work focuses on a wine industry but has implications for the success orchestration of other regional industrial clusters. Also, the lack of hub-firm interaction during the project process provides an opportunity to consider mechanisms for better guidance of the project team. Practical implications There are implications for practitioners for participating in and further improving the collaborative innovative process. Social implications Policymakers can benefit from the study as the required practices for stimulating innovation capabilities and economic development in a region are discussed. Originality/value This research enhances understanding of the hub-firm's role in a regional cluster not only in orchestrating resources to create collaborative innovation projects but how the role shifts over time

    The Airport A-CDM Operational Implementation Description and Challenges

    Purpose: This research aims to address an issue that today is a significant challenge for all signatory countries of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The implementation of the areas for improving practices recommended in the Global Navigation Plan (GANP). More specifically on the theme of Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM), which involves three of the most critical stakeholders in the Air Sector, which are Airlines, Airports and Air Traffic Control Bodies. Design/methodology: The strategy chosen to achieve the objective is to present the vision of the leading entities that represent the aviation area. Thus, the methodology of the Case Study, more precisely the Multiple Case Study, is one of the bases in the elaboration of the article, in the sense that analyses and recommendations prepared by Central Aviation Organizations are carried out, as well as by other entities that bring together the Sector members. Findings: In addition to having a basis for the functioning of a Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) process within the Air Sector –because of the extreme dynamics of the sector–, readers will have a signal of the importance of having a systematic backing of document contents ICAO before starting any professional or research work. Mainly from the GANP document, a compass for these activities in the coming decades. Practical implications: Academics and members of the Air Sector will have a brief reference and focused on the practical application of this topic, which still has very few approaches in academic research sources. Originality/value: The educational form in which this article is sequenced, as well as the different views presented, can serve as a guide for the understanding of all those interested in the airline industry.
