Preferences in Case-Based Reasoning
Case-based reasoning (CBR) is a well-established problem solving paradigm
that has been used in a wide range of real-world applications. Despite
its great practical success, work on the theoretical foundations of CBR is
still under way, and a coherent and universally applicable methodological
framework is yet missing. The absence of such a framework inspired the
motivation for the work developed in this thesis. Drawing on recent research
on preference handling in Artificial Intelligence and related fields, the goal of
this work is to develop a well theoretically-founded framework on the basis
of formal concepts and methods for knowledge representation and reasoning
with preferences
Biopsychosocial Assessment and Ergonomics Intervention for Sustainable Living: A Case Study on Flats
This study proposes an ergonomics-based approach for those who are living in small housings (known as flats) in Indonesia. With regard to human capability and limitation, this research shows how the basic needs of human beings are captured and analyzed, followed by proposed designs of facilities and standard living in small housings. Ninety samples were involved during the study through in- depth interview and face-to-face questionnaire. The results show that there were some proposed of modification of critical facilities (such as multifunction ironing work station, bed furniture, and clothesline) and validated through usability testing. Overall, it is hoped that the proposed designs will support biopsychosocial needs and sustainability
Design and Planning of Manufacturing Networks for Mass Customisation and Personalisation: Challenges and Outlook
AbstractManufacturers and service providers are called to design, plan and operate globalized manufacturing networks, addressing to challenges such as ever-decreasing lifecycles and increased product complexity. These factors, caused primarily by mass customisation and demand volatility, generate a number of issues related to the design and planning of manufacturing systems and networks, which are not holistically tackled in industrial and academic practices. The mapping of production performance requirements to process and production planning requires automated closed-loop control systems, which current systems fail to deliver. Technology-based business approaches are an enabler for increased enterprise performance. Towards that end, the issues discussed in this paper focus on challenges in the design and planning of manufacturing networks in a mass customization and personalization landscape. The development of methods and tools for supporting the dynamic configuration and optimal routing of manufacturing networks and facilities under cost, time, complexity and environmental constraints to support product-service personalization are promoted
