Automated modelling of reactive discrete event systems from external behavioural data
International audienceThis paper deals with automated modelling of reactive discrete event systems (DES). A software tool for building automatically interpreted Petri net models from an observed system's input/output sequence is presented. The tool is based on a black-box identification method that processes the input/output sequence, and synthesises and draws the model corresponding to such a sequence. First, the identification method is outlined; then the developed software is described and applied to an illustrative example from the manufacturing area
Automated Experiment Design for Data-Efficient Verification of Parametric Markov Decision Processes
We present a new method for statistical verification of quantitative
properties over a partially unknown system with actions, utilising a
parameterised model (in this work, a parametric Markov decision process) and
data collected from experiments performed on the underlying system. We obtain
the confidence that the underlying system satisfies a given property, and show
that the method uses data efficiently and thus is robust to the amount of data
available. These characteristics are achieved by firstly exploiting parameter
synthesis to establish a feasible set of parameters for which the underlying
system will satisfy the property; secondly, by actively synthesising
experiments to increase amount of information in the collected data that is
relevant to the property; and finally propagating this information over the
model parameters, obtaining a confidence that reflects our belief whether or
not the system parameters lie in the feasible set, thereby solving the

The role of learning on industrial simulation design and analysis
The capability of modeling real-world system operations has turned simulation into an indispensable problemsolving methodology for business system design and analysis. Today, simulation supports decisions ranging
from sourcing to operations to finance, starting at the strategic level and proceeding towards tactical and
operational levels of decision-making. In such a dynamic setting, the practice of simulation goes beyond
being a static problem-solving exercise and requires integration with learning. This article discusses the role
of learning in simulation design and analysis motivated by the needs of industrial problems and describes
how selected tools of statistical learning can be utilized for this purpose
Data-driven computation of invariant sets of discrete time-invariant black-box systems
We consider the problem of computing the maximal invariant set of
discrete-time black-box nonlinear systems without analytic dynamical models.
Under the assumption that the system is asymptotically stable, the maximal
invariant set coincides with the domain of attraction. A data-driven framework
relying on the observation of trajectories is proposed to compute
almost-invariant sets, which are invariant almost everywhere except a small
subset. Based on these observations, scenario optimization problems are
formulated and solved. We show that probabilistic invariance guarantees on the
almost-invariant sets can be established. To get explicit expressions of such
sets, a set identification procedure is designed with a verification step that
provides inner and outer approximations in a probabilistic sense. The proposed
