Transfer Learning using Computational Intelligence: A Survey
Abstract Transfer learning aims to provide a framework to utilize previously-acquired knowledge to solve new but similar problems much more quickly and effectively. In contrast to classical machine learning methods, transfer learning methods exploit the knowledge accumulated from data in auxiliary domains to facilitate predictive modeling consisting of different data patterns in the current domain. To improve the performance of existing transfer learning methods and handle the knowledge transfer process in real-world systems, ..
Machine Learning: A Review
Due to the complexity of data, interpretation of pattern or extraction of information becomes difficult; therefore application of machine learning is used to teach machines how to handle data more efficiently. With the increase of datasets, various organizations now apply machine learning applications and algorithms. Many industries apply machine learning to extract relevant information for analysis purposes. Many scholars, mathematicians and programmers have carried out research and applied several machine learning approaches in order to find solution to problems. In this paper, we focus on general review of machine learning including various machine learning techniques. These techniques can be applied to different fields like image processing, data mining, predictive analysis and so on.The paper aims at reviewing machine learning techniques and algorithms. The research methodology is based on qualitative analysis where various literatures is being reviewed based on machine learning.
Domain Adaptation for Statistical Classifiers
The most basic assumption used in statistical learning theory is that
training data and test data are drawn from the same underlying distribution.
Unfortunately, in many applications, the "in-domain" test data is drawn from a
distribution that is related, but not identical, to the "out-of-domain"
distribution of the training data. We consider the common case in which labeled
out-of-domain data is plentiful, but labeled in-domain data is scarce. We
introduce a statistical formulation of this problem in terms of a simple
mixture model and present an instantiation of this framework to maximum entropy
classifiers and their linear chain counterparts. We present efficient inference
algorithms for this special case based on the technique of conditional
expectation maximization. Our experimental results show that our approach leads
to improved performance on three real world tasks on four different data sets
from the natural language processing domain
Context-Dependent Acoustic Modeling without Explicit Phone Clustering
Phoneme-based acoustic modeling of large vocabulary automatic speech
recognition takes advantage of phoneme context. The large number of
context-dependent (CD) phonemes and their highly varying statistics require
tying or smoothing to enable robust training. Usually, Classification and
Regression Trees are used for phonetic clustering, which is standard in Hidden
Markov Model (HMM)-based systems. However, this solution introduces a secondary
training objective and does not allow for end-to-end training. In this work, we
address a direct phonetic context modeling for the hybrid Deep Neural Network
(DNN)/HMM, that does not build on any phone clustering algorithm for the
determination of the HMM state inventory. By performing different
decompositions of the joint probability of the center phoneme state and its
left and right contexts, we obtain a factorized network consisting of different
components, trained jointly. Moreover, the representation of the phonetic
context for the network relies on phoneme embeddings. The recognition accuracy
of our proposed models on the Switchboard task is comparable and outperforms
slightly the hybrid model using the standard state-tying decision trees.Comment: Submitted to Interspeech 202
Distribution-Based Categorization of Classifier Transfer Learning
Transfer Learning (TL) aims to transfer knowledge acquired in one problem,
the source problem, onto another problem, the target problem, dispensing with
the bottom-up construction of the target model. Due to its relevance, TL has
gained significant interest in the Machine Learning community since it paves
the way to devise intelligent learning models that can easily be tailored to
many different applications. As it is natural in a fast evolving area, a wide
variety of TL methods, settings and nomenclature have been proposed so far.
However, a wide range of works have been reporting different names for the same
concepts. This concept and terminology mixture contribute however to obscure
the TL field, hindering its proper consideration. In this paper we present a
review of the literature on the majority of classification TL methods, and also
a distribution-based categorization of TL with a common nomenclature suitable
to classification problems. Under this perspective three main TL categories are
presented, discussed and illustrated with examples
