With a camera mobile phone, which has become a must-have device, 2D-barcode works as an interface to bridge the physical and digital world. As the notion of ubiquitous computing has permeated, developing a new 2D-barcode and its applications has been a growing trend worldwide. A 2D-barcode symbol consists of two broad areas: data area and guide area. The components of the latter is collectively called finder pattern and used in locating the 2D-barcode symbol. The failure of finding the target symbol prevents a barcode reader from successfully decoding the barcode. Hence, designing a functional finder pattern is one of the key for improving the robustness of barcode reading, and thus, the entire 2D-barcode system. We have designed a novel finder pattern integrated with a color 2D-barcode for camera mobile phone applications. Through the development and evaluation of the finder pattern for effective color 2D-barcode detection, this paper discusses keys to improve the functionality and reliability of finder patterns, which should be kept in mind when designing a finder pattern for any 2D-barcode symbol

The use of alignment cells in MMCC barcode

The QR code, a monochrome 2D barcode, is a popular and commonly used barcode system worldwide. QR codes can easily be read using a mobile phone with the appropriate decoder. As there is an increasing need for higher data capacity barcodes, some newer 2D barcodes, such as the MMCC code, have adopted the use of colour. However, the use of colour introduces more challenges for mobile phone decoders than with monochrome codes. In this paper, the use of alignment cells within the MMCC code is proposed to improve the robustness of the colour barcode when used in a mobile environment. With the addition of the alignment cells, the MMCC code is shown to achieve high data capacity even with a smaller physical size and the limitations of mobile phone cameras

Football or commonly known as soccer, can be said as the most popular sport in many countries including Malaysia. It is a sport that people often talk about and play the whole time. However, scandal such as cheating has become one of the common issues in sport like football. Even at the professional levels, there were many scandals reported regarding the cheating issues in football. For instance, using an illegal players or performing the rolling substitution between the players without the knowledge of higher authorities can be said as the main concerns of cheating issues in the world of football nowadays. There-fore, for that reason, the objectives of this project is to provide a solution to the above mentioned issue by using the technology of mobile application as well as the barcode scanner. This project will be specifically focused on developing the mobile application that has the ability to verify the identity of players involved. With this solution, the man-agement will be able to store, update and verify each of the player’s information, who have been registered or participate in any football league or tournament. Hence, it will help the management to reduce the cheating issues in football as well as increasing the efficiency of management in handling a sport event or competition. As a result, several of preliminary studies and analysis have been performed throughout this paper in order to achieve the project objectives

QR code: The global making of an infrastructural gateway

This article traces the history of machine-readable data encoding standards and argues that the QR code has become an infrastructural gateway. Through the analysis of patents, corporate documents and advertising, ethnographic observations, and interviews with professionals, I describe the global making of the QR code and argue that the convergence of data encoding standards, mobile computing, machine vision algorithms, and platform ecosystems has led to the emergence of a new component of computational infrastructures which functions as a gateway between different actors, systems, and practices. The central section of the article covers seven decades of machine-readable data encoding history across different national and regional contexts: from the invention and popularization of the barcode in the United States, through the QR code’s invention in Japan and its success in East Asia, to its platformization in China. By revisiting this history through concepts drawn from the field of infrastructure studies, I argue that QR codes have become infrastructural gateways and conclude that this concept is useful not only to understand the current role of QR codes but also to identify and follow the emergence and change of other gateways in infrastructures to come.publishedVersio

QR code based two-factor authentication to verify paper-based documents

    Get PDF
Important paper-based documents Exposed to forgery such as: official certificates, birth, marriage, death certificates, selling and buying documents and other legal documents is more and more serious and sophisticated. With the purposes of fraud, appropriation of property, job application and assignment in order to swindle public authorities, this forgery has led to material loss, belief deterioration as well as social instability. There are many techniques has been proposed to overcome this issues such as: ink stamps, live signatures, documented the transaction in third party like the court or notary. In this paper, it’s proposed a feasible solution for forgery prevention for paper-based documents using cloud computing application. With the application of Quick Response bidirectional barcode and the usage of hash algorithm. The study aims at developing an electronic verification system for official and issued books (documents, endorsements, and other official books) to/from different sections of the Institute using QR technology
