    A robust fuzzy possibilistic AHP approach for partner selection in international strategic alliance

    The international strategic alliance is an inevitable solution for making competitive advantage and reducing the risk in today’s business environment. Partner selection is an important part in success of partnerships, and meanwhile it is a complicated decision because of various dimensions of the problem and inherent conflicts of stockholders. The purpose of this paper is to provide a practical approach to the problem of partner selection in international strategic alliances, which fulfills the gap between theories of inter-organizational relationships and quantitative models. Thus, a novel Robust Fuzzy Possibilistic AHP approach is proposed for combining the benefits of two complementary theories of inter-organizational relationships named, (1) Resource-based view, and (2) Transaction-cost theory and considering Fit theory as the perquisite of alliance success. The Robust Fuzzy Possibilistic AHP approach is a noveldevelopment of Interval-AHP technique employing robust formulation; aimed at handling the ambiguity of the problem and let the use of intervals as pairwise judgments. The proposed approach was compared with existing approaches, and the results show that it provides the best quality solutions in terms of minimum error degree. Moreover, the framework implemented in a case study and its applicability were discussed

    Dealing with non-metric dissimilarities in fuzzy central clustering algorithms

    Clustering is the problem of grouping objects on the basis of a similarity measure among them. Relational clustering methods can be employed when a feature-based representation of the objects is not available, and their description is given in terms of pairwise (dis)similarities. This paper focuses on the relational duals of fuzzy central clustering algorithms, and their application in situations when patterns are represented by means of non-metric pairwise dissimilarities. Symmetrization and shift operations have been proposed to transform the dissimilarities among patterns from non-metric to metric. In this paper, we analyze how four popular fuzzy central clustering algorithms are affected by such transformations. The main contributions include the lack of invariance to shift operations, as well as the invariance to symmetrization. Moreover, we highlight the connections between relational duals of central clustering algorithms and central clustering algorithms in kernel-induced spaces. One among the presented algorithms has never been proposed for non-metric relational clustering, and turns out to be very robust to shift operations. (C) 2008 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

    A survey of kernel and spectral methods for clustering

    Clustering algorithms are a useful tool to explore data structures and have been employed in many disciplines. The focus of this paper is the partitioning clustering problem with a special interest in two recent approaches: kernel and spectral methods. The aim of this paper is to present a survey of kernel and spectral clustering methods, two approaches able to produce nonlinear separating hypersurfaces between clusters. The presented kernel clustering methods are the kernel version of many classical clustering algorithms, e.g., K-means, SOM and neural gas. Spectral clustering arise from concepts in spectral graph theory and the clustering problem is configured as a graph cut problem where an appropriate objective function has to be optimized. An explicit proof of the fact that these two paradigms have the same objective is reported since it has been proven that these two seemingly different approaches have the same mathematical foundation.     Control of robust design in multiobjective optimization under uncertainties

    In design and optimization problems, a solution is called robust if it is stable enough with respect to perturbation of model input parameters. In engineering design optimization, the designer may prefer a use of robust solution to a more optimal one to set a stable system design. Although in literature there is a handful of methods for obtaining such solutions, they do not provide a designer with a direct and systematic control over a required robustness. In this paper, a new approach to robust design in multiobjective optimization is introduced, which is able to generate robust design with model uncertainties. In addition, it introduces an opportunity to control the extent of robustness by designer preferences. The presented method is different from its other counterparts. For keeping robust design feasible, it does not change any constraint. Conversely, only a special tunable objective function is constructed to incorporate the preferences of the designer related to the robustness. The effectiveness of the method is tested on well known engineering design problems

    Clustering of nonstationary data streams: a survey of fuzzy partitional methods

    YesData streams have arisen as a relevant research topic during the past decade. They are real‐time, incremental in nature, temporally ordered, massive, contain outliers, and the objects in a data stream may evolve over time (concept drift). Clustering is often one of the earliest and most important steps in the streaming data analysis workflow. A comprehensive literature is available about stream data clustering; however, less attention is devoted to the fuzzy clustering approach, even though the nonstationary nature of many data streams makes it especially appealing.     Robust Platelet Logistics Planning in Disaster Relief Operations Under Uncertainty: a Coordinated Approach

    © 2017, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC. Resource sharing, as a coordination mechanism, can mitigate disruptions in supply and changes in demand. It is particularly crucial for platelets because they have a short lifespan and need to be transferred and allocated within a limited time to prevent waste or shortages. Thus, a coordinated model comprised of a mixed vertical-horizontal structure, for the logistics of platelets, is proposed for disaster relief operations in the response phase. The aim of this research is to reduce the wastage and shortage of platelets due to their critical role in wound healing. We present a bi-objective location-allocation robust possibilistic programming model for designing a two-layer coordinated organization strategy for multi-type blood-derived platelets under demand uncertainty. Computational results, derived using a heuristic ε-constraint algorithm, are reported and discussed to show the applicability of the proposed model. The experimental results indicate that surpluses and shortages in platelets remarkably declined following instigation of a coordinated disaster relief operation
