Kronecker-Based Fusion Rule for Cooperative Spectrum Sensing with Multi-Antenna Receivers
This paper considers a novel fusion rule for spectrum sensing scheme for a cognitive radio network with multi-antenna receivers. The proposed scheme exploits the fact that when any primary signal is present, measurements are spatially correlated due to presence of inter-antenna and inter-receiver spatial correlation. In order to exploit this spatial structure, the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) operates with the determinant of the sample covariance matrix. Therefore, it depends on the sample size N and the dimensionality of the received data (i.e., the number of receivers K and antennas L). However, when the dimensionality fK; Lg is on the order, or larger than the sample size N, the GLRT degenerates due to the ill-conditioning of the sample covariance matrix. In order to circumvent this issue, we propose two techniques that exploit the inner spatial structure of the received observations by using single pair and multi-pairs Kronecker products. The performance of the proposed detectors is evaluated by means of numerical simulations, showing important advantages with respect to the traditional (i.e., unstructured) GLRT approach
A real valued neural network based autoregressive energy detector for cognitive radio application
A real valued neural network (RVNN) based energy detector (ED) is proposed and analyzed for cognitive radio (CR) application. This was developed using a known two-layered RVNN model to estimate the model coefficients of an autoregressive (AR) system. By using appropriate modules and a well-designed detector, the power spectral density (PSD) of the AR system transfer function was estimated and subsequent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves of the detector generated and analyzed. A high detection performance with low false alarm rate was observed for varying signal to noise ratio (SNR), sample number, and model order conditions. The proposed RVNN based ED was then compared to the simple periodogram (SP), Welch periodogram (WP), multitaper (MT), Yule-Walker (YW), Burg (BG), and covariance (CV) based ED techniques. The proposed detector showed better performance than the SP, WP, and MT while providing better false alarm performance than the YW, BG, and CV. Data provided here support the effectiveness of the proposed RVNN based ED for CR application

A Comparison of Algorithms for Learning Hidden Variables in Normal Graphs
A Bayesian factor graph reduced to normal form consists in the
interconnection of diverter units (or equal constraint units) and
Single-Input/Single-Output (SISO) blocks. In this framework localized
adaptation rules are explicitly derived from a constrained maximum likelihood
(ML) formulation and from a minimum KL-divergence criterion using KKT
conditions. The learning algorithms are compared with two other updating
equations based on a Viterbi-like and on a variational approximation
respectively. The performance of the various algorithm is verified on synthetic
data sets for various architectures. The objective of this paper is to provide
the programmer with explicit algorithms for rapid deployment of Bayesian graphs
in the applications.Comment: Submitted for journal publicatio
