A survey on fractional order control techniques for unmanned aerial and ground vehicles
In recent years, numerous applications of science and engineering for modeling and control of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) systems based on fractional calculus have been realized. The extra fractional order derivative terms allow to optimizing the performance of the systems. The review presented in this paper focuses on the control problems of the UAVs and UGVs that have been addressed by the fractional order techniques over the last decade
Multi-objective evolutionary–fuzzy augmented flight control for an F16 aircraft
In this article, the multi-objective design of a fuzzy logic augmented flight controller for a high performance fighter jet (the Lockheed-Martin F16) is described. A fuzzy logic controller is designed and its membership functions tuned by genetic algorithms in order to design a roll, pitch, and yaw flight controller with enhanced manoeuverability which still retains safety critical operation when combined with a standard inner-loop stabilizing controller. The controller is assessed in terms of pilot effort and thus reduction of pilot fatigue. The controller is incorporated into a six degree of freedom motion base real-time flight simulator, and flight tested by a qualified pilot instructor
A fuzzy multiobjective algorithm for multiproduct batch plant: Application to protein production
This paper addresses the problem of the optimal design of batch plants with imprecise demands and proposes an alternative treatment of the imprecision by using fuzzy concepts. For this purpose, we extended a multiobjective genetic algorithm (MOGA) developed in previousworks, taking into account simultaneously maximization of the net present value (NPV) and two other performance criteria, i.e. the production delay/advance and a flexibility criterion. The former is computed by comparing the fuzzy computed production time to a given fuzzy production time horizon and the latter is based on the additional fuzzy demand that the plant is able to produce. The methodology provides a set of scenarios that are helpful to the decision’s maker and constitutes a very promising framework for taken imprecision into account in new product development stage
A Two-stage Classification Method for High-dimensional Data and Point Clouds
High-dimensional data classification is a fundamental task in machine
learning and imaging science. In this paper, we propose a two-stage multiphase
semi-supervised classification method for classifying high-dimensional data and
unstructured point clouds. To begin with, a fuzzy classification method such as
the standard support vector machine is used to generate a warm initialization.
We then apply a two-stage approach named SaT (smoothing and thresholding) to
improve the classification. In the first stage, an unconstraint convex
variational model is implemented to purify and smooth the initialization,
followed by the second stage which is to project the smoothed partition
obtained at stage one to a binary partition. These two stages can be repeated,
with the latest result as a new initialization, to keep improving the
classification quality. We show that the convex model of the smoothing stage
has a unique solution and can be solved by a specifically designed primal-dual
algorithm whose convergence is guaranteed. We test our method and compare it
with the state-of-the-art methods on several benchmark data sets. The
experimental results demonstrate clearly that our method is superior in both
the classification accuracy and computation speed for high-dimensional data and
point clouds.Comment: 21 pages, 4 figure
An efficient ant colony system based on receding horizon control for the aircraft arrival sequencing and scheduling problem
The aircraft arrival sequencing and scheduling (ASS) problem is a salient problem in air traffic control (ATC), which proves to be nondeterministic polynomial (NP) hard. This paper formulates the ASS problem in the form of a permutation problem and proposes a new solution framework that makes the first attempt at using an ant colony system (ACS) algorithm based on the receding horizon control (RHC) to solve it. The resultant RHC-improved ACS algorithm for the ASS problem (termed the RHC-ACS-ASS algorithm) is robust, effective, and efficient, not only due to that the ACS algorithm has a strong global search ability and has been proven to be suitable for these kinds of NP-hard problems but also due to that the RHC technique can divide the problem with receding time windows to reduce the computational burden and enhance the solution's quality. The RHC-ACS-ASS algorithm is extensively tested on the cases from the literatures and the cases randomly generated. Comprehensive investigations are also made for the evaluation of the influences of ACS and RHC parameters on the performance of the algorithm. Moreover, the proposed algorithm is further enhanced by using a two-opt exchange heuristic local search. Experimental results verify that the proposed RHC-ACS-ASS algorithm generally outperforms ordinary ACS without using the RHC technique and genetic algorithms (GAs) in solving the ASS problems and offers high robustness, effectiveness, and efficienc
