A Game Theory-Based Obstacle Avoidance Routing Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks
The obstacle avoidance problem in geographic forwarding is an important issue for location-based routing in wireless sensor networks. The presence of an obstacle leads to several geographic routing problems such as excessive energy consumption and data congestion. Obstacles are hard to avoid in realistic environments. To bypass obstacles, most routing protocols tend to forward packets along the obstacle boundaries. This leads to a situation where the nodes at the boundaries exhaust their energy rapidly and the obstacle area is diffused. In this paper, we introduce a novel routing algorithm to solve the obstacle problem in wireless sensor networks based on a game-theory model. Our algorithm forms a concave region that cannot forward packets to achieve the aim of improving the transmission success rate and decreasing packet transmission delays. We consider the residual energy, out-degree and forwarding angle to determine the forwarding probability and payoff function of forwarding candidates. This achieves the aim of load balance and reduces network energy consumption. Simulation results show that based on the average delivery delay, energy consumption and packet delivery ratio performances our protocol is superior to other traditional schemes
Crowdfunding Non-fungible Tokens on the Blockchain
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have been used as a way of rewarding content creators. Artists publish their works on the blockchain as NFTs, which they can then sell. The buyer of an NFT then holds ownership of a unique digital asset, which can be resold in much the same way that real-world art collectors might trade paintings. However, while a deal of effort has been spent on selling works of art on the blockchain, very little attention has been paid to using the blockchain as a means of fundraising to help finance the artist’s work in the first place. Additionally, while blockchains like Ethereum are ideal for smaller works of art, additional support is needed when the artwork is larger than is feasible to store on the blockchain. In this paper, we propose a fundraising mechanism that will help artists to gain financial support for their initiatives, and where the backers can receive a share of the profits in exchange for their support. We discuss our prototype implementation using the SpartanGold framework. We then discuss how this system could be expanded to support large NFTs with the 0Chain blockchain, and describe how we could provide support for ongoing storage of these NFTs
Fake Malware Generation Using HMM and GAN
In the past decade, the number of malware attacks have grown considerably and, more importantly, evolved. Many researchers have successfully integrated state-of-the-art machine learning techniques to combat this ever present and rising threat to information security. However, the lack of enough data to appropriately train these machine learning models is one big challenge that is still present. Generative modelling has proven to be very efficient at generating image-like synthesized data that can match the actual data distribution. In this paper, we aim to generate malware samples as opcode sequences and attempt to differentiate them from the real ones with the goal to build fake malware data that can be used to effectively train the machine learning models. We use and compare different Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) algorithms and Hidden Markov Models (HMM) to generate such fake samples obtaining promising results

Institutional Responses to Pressures for Sustainable Palm Oil
As the two leading palm oil producing countries, Indonesia and Malaysia have come under external pressures to limit deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions related to land use conversion for oil palm cultivation. We examine various institutional frameworks that have emerged to mediate these pressures. These frameworks can be distinguished by their geographic scope—domestic, region, and global—as well as by the nature of control—private, non-profit, and governmental. The frameworks have taken the form of sustainability certification systems from non-profit organizations or governments, corporate sustainability policies, or the setting through global or bilateral negotiations of voluntary national targets for limiting deforestation or reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
We interpret these frameworks in terms of basic theories of institutional economics, in particular the Coase theorem, which posits that the allocation of resources will be efficient if there are zero transaction costs and legal rights are well defined. Some efficiencies are certainly attainable. Certification systems can be operated by intermediary organizations with specialized capacities to monitor the sustainability practices of oil palm growers associated with various crude palm oil mills. Larger corporations similarly may be able to commit themselves more or less credibly to observance of strict sustainability standards. This does not necessarily reflect purely altruistic impulses. It will add to costs, but may also add to revenues: as consumer groups globally pressure consumer products companies to use sustainably sourced palm oil, these companies may be willing to pay more for sustainability assurance by their palm oil suppliers.
Given transaction and information costs, and economic incentives of the relevant economic actors, there has been slippage in the monitoring and enforcement of certification systems and corporate policies. The quality and effectiveness of governance have also been major issues. Technological developments, particularly the increased use of satellites to monitor deforestation and fires, may offer enhanced transparency, and increased global awareness and concern over these issues should drive further progress, if the forests can last long enough
WiFi-Based Human Activity Recognition Using Attention-Based BiLSTM
Recently, significant efforts have been made to explore human activity recognition (HAR) techniques that use information gathered by existing indoor wireless infrastructures through WiFi signals without demanding the monitored subject to carry a dedicated device. The key intuition is that different activities introduce different multi-paths in WiFi signals and generate different patterns in the time series of channel state information (CSI). In this paper, we propose and evaluate a full pipeline for a CSI-based human activity recognition framework for 12 activities in three different spatial environments using two deep learning models: ABiLSTM and CNN-ABiLSTM. Evaluation experiments have demonstrated that the proposed models outperform state-of-the-art models. Also, the experiments show that the proposed models can be applied to other environments with different configurations, albeit with some caveats. The proposed ABiLSTM model achieves an overall accuracy of 94.03%, 91.96%, and 92.59% across the 3 target environments. While the proposed CNN-ABiLSTM model reaches an accuracy of 98.54%, 94.25% and 95.09% across those same environments
A Bio-inspired Load Balancing Technique for Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) consist of multiple distributed nodes each with limited resources. With their strict resource constraints and application-specific characteristics, WSNs contain many challenging trade-offs. This thesis is concerned with the load balancing of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). We present an approach, inspired by bees’ pheromone propagation mechanism, that allows individual nodes to decide on the execution process locally to solve the trade-off between service availability and energy consumption. We explore the performance consequences of the pheromone-based load balancing approach using a system-level simulator. The effectiveness of the algorithm is evaluated on case studies based on sound sensors with different scenarios of existing approaches on variety of different network topologies. The performance of our approach is dependant on the values chosen for its parameters. As such, we utilise the Simulated Annealing to discover optimal parameter configurations for pheromone-based load balancing technique for any given network schema. Once the parameter values are optimised for the given network topology automatically, we inspect improving the pheromone-based load balancing approach using robotic agents. As cyber-physical systems benefit from the heterogeneity of the hardware components, we introduce the use of pheromone signalling-based robotic guidance that integrates the robotic agents to the existing load balancing approach by guiding the robots into the uncovered area of the sensor field. As such, we maximise the service availability using the robotic agents as well as the sensor nodes
