This qualitative multiple case study explored the perspectives of nonprofits on factors impacting and challenges associated with utilizing revenue diversification and structured spending in midsized nonprofit human service organizations (NHSO) in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The researcher conducted semi-structured one-on-one interviews with eight nonprofit officials in Washington, D.C., to gain insight into their perspectives on revenue and spending strategies. The researcher also used document review to compare and verify the information from the semi-structured interviews and add more nuances to what the interviews provided. The findings of the study demonstrated that NHSOs could implement revenue diversification and structured spending through community engagement, partnerships, and optimal resource utilization. The results also revealed that revenue and expense strategies allow nonprofit organizations (NPOs) to achieve financial stability and flexibility in terms of organizational viability. Moreover, the results unveil the need for financial independence is a substantial barrier for NHSOs to implement financial strategies. The study\u27s findings proposed some practical recommendations to help nonprofits and financial advisors improve their services and avoid economic unsustainability

In comparison to the European healthcare system, the U.S. healthcare system has lower quality care, higher costs, and covers a smaller percentage of the population. Despite the high costs, the U.S. healthcare system remains dysfunctional. The purpose of this exploratory single case study was to identify the strategies that some healthcare managers in a hospital setting in the midwestern region of the United States use to improve efficiency while decreasing healthcare costs. Complex adaptive systems theory was used to frame this study that included face-to-face interviews with 6 highly experienced healthcare managers. Data were collected from audio recorded interviews and publicly available documents, and the audio recordings were transcribed and analyzed using deductive and open coding techniques to identify themes regarding strategies used by managers to find effective ways for improvement. Three strategies emerged as themes, including improving the accuracy of information and reports, implementing precise and accurate information, and improving quality. The findings of this study may directly benefit healthcare managers and compel positive social change by facilitating successful strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs. The successful strategies identified in the study might provide a new direction to healthcare managers attempting to adopt new methods. The findings may also contribute to social change by providing solutions that may improve overall organizational performance in a hospital setting

Many leaders of nonprofit organizations (NPOs) lack strategies to build and maintain a financially sustainable organization to continue providing vital social services. The purpose of this single case study was to explore the financial strategies some NPO leaders used to maintain financial sustainability during general economic downturns. Five purposively selected leaders of an NPO in northwestern Indiana participated in the study. The resource dependency theory and the change management theory were the conceptual frameworks that guided the study. Data were collected from face-to-face and telephone interviews and a review of company documentation. Member checking was conducted with participants and data triangulation occurred with an analysis of organization documents that reinforced the validity of the findings. Data were analyzed using Yin\u27s 5-step process of coding of participants\u27 responses, including examining, categorizing, tabulating, creating a data display, and testing the data. Data analysis of organizational documents, interview transcripts, and the organization\u27s social media sites revealed 3 themes: partnerships, fundraising, and diversification as the strategies used to maintain financial sustainability during periods of economic downturns. The findings of this study might contribute to positive social change by providing information to NPO leaders to help improve financial strategies and sustainability for community service organizations during general economic downturns and maintain social services

There is a growing demand for accountability of nonprofit organizations, and nonprofit business leaders are increasingly under pressure to demonstrate operational effectiveness. The problem is that some business leaders of nonprofit organizations lack strategies for identifying and selecting actionable performance measures of operational effectiveness. Using the plan-do-study-act conceptual framework, this single case study of a nonprofit organization located in the mid-Atlantic region of United States was conducted to explore strategies that 3 of its business leaders used to identify and select actionable performance measures of operational effectiveness. Using thematic analysis of data collected from semistructured interviews, documents, and public sources, emergent themes included: (a) usefulness of measures, (b) customer experience, and (c) workforce education. The findings of this study may have implications for social change by helping nonprofit business leaders achieve consensus on measures of effectiveness beyond financial measures. Additionally, the findings could support the usefulness of transparency in reporting performance outcomes, encourage a shift in focus from program spending and ratios to effectiveness, and prompt external stakeholders to expect performance measures that demonstrate effectiveness in nonprofit program operations

Grounded in the technology-organizational-environmental (TOE) framework, the purpose of this qualitative, pragmatic inquiry study was to explore the IT strategies used by IT managers of multinational companies in the United States to implement IT infrastructure services to businesses for overseas users in developing countries. The participants were nine IT leaders with experience or who have implemented IT strategies for organizations in the United States with businesses in developing countries. Data were collected using semistructured interviews. Through thematic analysis, six themes were identified: (a) hybrid cloud and on-premises adoption, (b) IT infrastructure redundancy or failover process, (c) development of standardized IT best practices, (d) IT infrastructure strategies by region, (e) measurement of the IT infrastructure services, and (f) external factors impact the adoption of IT infrastructure strategies. A key recommendation is for IT leaders to have cloud file services such as Microsoft 365 or One Drive, allowing employees to work from anywhere. The implications for positive social change include the potential to guide IT managers’ decisions that can lead to the long-term sustainability of businesses, thereby improving the socio-economic lifestyle of individuals in the United States and developing countries
