Selectively-Releasable Adhesives
In one embodiment, a selectively-releasable adhesive includes a copolymer formed from a multifunctional alcohol and a multifunctional carboxylic acid, wherein the copolymer has been cured the equivalent of up to approximately 20 hours at 120°C. and 100 millitorr.Global Biomedical Development, LLCGeorgia Tech Research Corporatio
Statistics of selectively neutral genetic variation
Random models of evolution are instrumental in extracting rates of
microscopic evolutionary mechanisms from empirical observations on genetic
variation in genome sequences. In this context it is necessary to know the
statistical properties of empirical observables (such as the local homozygosity
for instance). Previous work relies on numerical results or assumes Gaussian
approximations for the corresponding distributions. In this paper we give an
analytical derivation of the statistical properties of the local homozygosity
and other empirical observables assuming selective neutrality. We find that
such distributions can be very non-Gaussian.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Fluid sampling device
An inlet leak is described for sampling gases, more specifically, for selectively sampling multiple fluids. This fluid sampling device includes a support frame. A plurality of fluid inlet devices extend through the support frame and each of the fluid inlet devices include a longitudinal aperture. An opening device that is responsive to a control signal selectively opens the aperture to allow fluid passage. A closing device that is responsive to another control signal selectively closes the aperture for terminating further fluid flow
Coulomb explosion sputtering of selectively oxidized Si
We have studied multiply charged Arq+ ion induced potential sputtering of a
unique system comprising of coexisting Silicon and Silicon oxide surfaces. Such
surfaces are produced by oblique angle oxygen ion bombardment on Si(100), where
ripple structures are formed and one side of each ripple gets more oxidized. It
is observed that higher the potential energy of Arq+ ion, higher the sputtering
yield of the non conducting (oxide) side of the ripple as compared to the
semiconducting side. The results are explained in terms of Coulomb explosion
model where potential sputtering depends on the conductivity of the ion impact
sites.Comment: 9 pages and 3 figure
Isotope separation using metallic vapor lasers
The isotope U235 is separated from a gasified isotope mixture of U235 and U238 by selectively exciting the former from the ground state utilizing resonant absorption of radiation from precisely tuned lasers. The excited isotope is then selectively ionized by electron bombardment. It then is separated from the remaining isotope mixture by electromagnetic separation
Fabrication of nanometer single crystal metallic CoSi2 structures on Si
Amorphous Co:Si (1:2 ratio) films are electron gun-evaporated on clean Si(111), such as in a molecular beam epitaxy system. These layers are then crystallized selectively with a focused electron beam to form very small crystalline Co/Si2 regions in an amorphous matrix. Finally, the amorphous regions are etched away selectively using plasma or chemical techniques
Apparatus for supplying conditioned air at a substantially constant temperature and humidity
The apparatus includes a supply duct coupled to a source of supply air for carrying the supply air therethrough. A return duct is coupled to the supply duct for carrying return conditioned air therethrough. A temperature reducing device is coupled to the supply duct for decreasing the temperature of the supply and return conditioned air. A by-pass duct is coupled to the supply duct for selectively directing portions of the supply and return conditioned air around the temperature reducing device. Another by-pass duct is coupled to the return duct for selectively directing portions of the return conditioned air around the supply duct and the temperature reduction device. Controller devices selectively control the flow and amount of mixing of the supply and return conditioned air
