Elderly people as viewed by students Public media tend to present aged people as physically disabled and afflicted by age-related diseases instead of emphasising their power of empathy, their will to offer help and sympathetic presence to others, and their ability to enjoy life. The stereotypic attitudes towards the elderly could be gradually improved by permanent education. The aim of this study was to overview the attitudes of various groups of students towards elderly people and senility. A total of 98 students (second study year) from two higher schools participated in the study: from the University of Physical Education in Warsaw (Tourism and Recreation) and from Higher Vocational School in Racibórz (Pedagogy). They were requested to fill questionnaires ‘Attitudes towards the disabled’ of Sękowski (1999) modified by Szarota. DECISION-MAKING AND AGING

The paper presents and compares four nonprobabilistic procedures of fair division of a set of indivisible goods with money: Original Knaster, Adjusted Knaster, Equal Shares and Second Prices. The last two are presented for the first time in the article. The analysis concerns the formal properties of those methods, namely: strong Pareto optimality, proportionality, envy-freeness, fairness, strategy-proofness and anonymity. Moreover, classes of situations in which those procedures meet aforementioned properties will be compared

Różnice pokoleniowe w praktykach odbioru platform streamingowych

Przedmiot badań niniejszego artykułu stanowią praktyki odbioru platform streamingowych udostępniających filmy oraz seriale stosowane przez studentów oraz osoby starsze powyżej pięćdziesiątego piątego roku życia. Zastosowane metoda badawcze to sondaż i wywiady bezpośrednie, których połączenie składa się na podejście mieszane. Uzyskane wyniki badań wskazały, że młodsza grupa odbiorców częściej i w większym zakresie korzysta z platform streamingowych, a ich preferencje skupiają się na krótszych formach telewizyjnych, takich jak seriale; osoby starsze wykorzystują platformy w głównej mierze do oglądania filmów fabularnych. W badaniach porównano także najczęściej użytkowane platformy streamingowe, urządzenia do ich odtwarzania oraz kryteria wyboru treści. W obu grupach wiekowych dominuje serwis Netflix, który wybierany jest z uwagi na jakościową i różnorodną ofertę, ale także możliwość współdzielenia konta. W artykule poruszono także kwestię trudności związanych z wyborem treści na platformach streamingowych. Podkreślono również, że sposób dystrybucji ma kluczowe znaczenie dla satysfakcji użytkowników z platform streamingowych, co może stanowić wskazówki dla twórców treści i serwisów strumieniowych.Generational differences in streaming platform consumption practicesAbstract: The subject of the study of this article is the reception practices related to streaming platforms that provide movies and series among students and older people over fifty-five years of age. We applied the research strategy of mixed-method approach and research methods of surveys and in-depth interviews. The results showed that younger audiences use streaming platforms more frequently and to a greater extent, with their preferences focusing on shorter TV forms, such as series. While older people primarily use the platforms to watch feature films. The study also compared the most frequently selected streaming platforms, the devices used to play them and the criteria for choosing content. Netflix is dominant in both age groups, being chosen for its qualitative and diverse offerings, but also for its ability to share accounts. The article also addresses the difficulty of choosing content on streaming platforms. It also stresses that the method of distribution is crucial to user satisfaction with streaming platforms, which can provide guidance for content creators and streaming services

LEGAL PROTECTION OF THE ELDERLY

Artykuł stanowi próbę spojrzenia na problematykę starości przede wszystkim od strony aktywności legislacyjnej podejmowanej w ramach prawa krajowego w tym obszarze. Poza analizą obowiązującego obecnie system instytucjonalnego wsparcia osób starszych, w tym starszych osób niepełnosprawnych, wskazano na doniosłość owej problematyki w kontekście sytuacji demograficznej w Polsce i na świecie. Zwrócono uwagę na brak jednolitości i spójności w definiowaniu starości, a także na bariery ograniczające populację seniorów oraz ich społeczną marginalizację. Na podstawie wybranych aktów prawnych wykazano, że sytuacja osób starszych (w tym niepełnosprawnych) nie przedstawia się korzystnie, mimo że prawa osób starszych są raczej dobrze chronione.The paper is an attempt to look at the problems of the old age, mainly from the perspective of the legislative activity undertaken within the framework of relevant national law. Apart from the analysis of the current system of institutional support for elderly citizens and old people with disabilities, the importance of these issues in the context of the demographic situation in Poland and worldwide has been emphasised. Attention has been drawn to the lack of uniformity and cohesion in the definition of old age, and to the barriers that affect the population of seniors as well as social marginalisation of the elderly citizens. On the basis of selected legal acts it has been shown that the situation of the elderly (including the disabled) is far from favourable, although the rights of old people are relatively well protected

Relacje międzypokoleniowe w rodzinie – perspektywa gerontologiczna

Relacje międzypokoleniowe w rodzinie stanowią istotne zagadnienie w związku z dokonującymi się zmianami społecznymi. W ostatnich latach dostrzega się postępującą indywidualizację życia, szybką dezaktualizację wiedzy oraz nastawienie ku przyszłości. Wszystkie te procesy przyczyniają się do zmiany modelu rodziny, a tym samym zmiany pozycji najstarszego pokolenia. W okresie starości rodzina staje się głównym miejscem powiązań międzyludzkich oraz stanowi namiastkę utraconych kontaktów społecznych. Tu osoba starsza zyskuje możliwości realizowania się w nowych rolach społecznych i rozwijania swojej osobowości oraz otrzymuje wsparcie pozwalające na pomyślne przeżywanie starości. Zastanawiające jest, jak w sytuacji przeobrażeń społecznych kształtują się relacje w rodzinach seniorów, a także sposób postrzegania starości i człowieka starego w rodzinie i społeczeństwie. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę przedstawienia relacji międzypokoleniowych w rodzinach seniorów, a także miejsce seniorów we współczesnej rodzinie i społeczeństwie z uwzględnieniem perspektywy wszystkich pokoleń. Dokonana analiza wskazuje, iż relacje rodzinne stanowią istotne zagadnienie w życiu osób starszych. Jednak nie wszystkie pokolenia podzielają przekonania seniorów. Średnie pokolenie docenia rolę i znaczenie seniorów, niestety najmłodsi wypowiadają się na temat starości i człowieka starego raczej negatywnie. Sytuacja ta zmusza do poszukiwania sposobów podnoszenia pozycji osób starszych w rodzinie i społeczeństwie
