Dundee Discussion Papers in Economics 197:'Make-or-buy' in international oligopoly and the role of competitive pressure
We study how competitive pressure influences the make-or-buy decision that oligopolistic firms face between producing an intermediate component in-house or purchasing it from a domestic supplier. We model outsourcing as a bilateral relationship in which the supplier undertakes relationship-specific investments. A home and foreign firm compete in the home market. Firmsâ mode of operation decision depends on cost and strategic considerations. Competitive pressure increases firmsâ incentive to outsource. Consumer gains from trade liberalisation are enhanced when it leads to less outsourcing
Uncertainty Management in Power System Operation Decision Making
Due to the penetration of renewable energy resources and load deviation,
uncertainty handling is one of the main challenges for power system; therefore
the need for accurate decision-making in a power system under the penetration
of uncertainties is essential. However, decision makers should use suitable
methods for uncertainty management. In this chapter, some of the uncertainty
modeling methods in power system studies are analyzed. At first, multiple
uncertain parameters that the power system deals with are introduced, then some
useful uncertainty modeling methods are introduced. To show the uncertainty
modeling process and its effect on the decision-making, a microgrid consisting
of multiple uncertain parameters is considered, and stochastic scenario-based
approach is used for uncertainty modeling. The scheduling of microgrids in the
presence of different types of uncertainty is solved from the
profit-maximization point of view. The simulation results are presented for a
33-bus microgrid that shows the effectiveness of the proposed method for
decision-making under high level of uncertainty
Assessment and forecasting of lightning potential and its effect on launch operations at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and John F. Kennedy Space Center
Lightning plays a pivotal role in the operation decision process for space and ballistic launches at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Kennedy Space Center. Lightning forecasts are the responsibility of Detachment 11, 4th Weather Wing's Cape Canaveral Forecast Facility. These forecasts are important to daily ground processing as well as launch countdown decisions. The methodology and equipment used to forecast lightning are discussed. Impact on a recent mission is summarized

Projection and enterprises controlling in domestic waste water econom
The development of the cost of communal waste water disposal is widely discussed among the population, among politicians and experts. Not only the absolute amount of the charged fees are the cause of concern, but also their increase over the last few years. As part of this thesis, the PC software SloVaKon, which facilitates project and operation decision, will be designed to apply the experience gained during the building and expansion of the waste water industry in GermanyÂŽs five new federal states to the conditions in the Slovak republic. For this, a comparison of both countryÂŽs topographical, technical, legal and economical conditions proved necessary
