Digital Availability of Product Information for Collaborative Engineering of Spacecraft

    Get PDF
In this paper, we introduce a system to collect product information from manufacturers and make it available in tools that are used for concurrent design of spacecraft. The planning of a spacecraft needs experts from different disciplines, like propulsion, power, and thermal. Since these different disciplines rely on each other there is a high need for communication between them, which is often realized by a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) process and corresponding tools. We show by comparison that the product information provided by manufacturers often does not match the information needed by MBSE tools on a syntactic or semantic level. The information from manufacturers is also currently not available in machine-readable formats. Afterwards, we present a prototype of a system that makes product information from manufacturers directly available in MBSE tools, in a machine-readable way.Comment: accepted at CDVE201

PubDNA Finder in a Nutshell. Searching the Life Sciences Literature with Sequences of Nucleic Acids

    Get PDF
Biomedical researchers and clinicians working with molecular technologies in routine clinical practice often need to review the available literature to gather information regarding specific sequences of nucleic acids. This includes, for instance, finding articles related to a concrete DNA sequence, or identifying empirically-validated primer/probe sequences to evaluate the presence of different micro-organisms. Unfortunately, these hard and time-consuming tasks often need to be manually performed by researchers themselves since no publicly available biomedical literature search engine, e.g. PubMed, PubMed Central (PMC), etc., provides the required search functionalities. In this article, we describe PubDNA Finder, a web service that enables users to perform advanced searches on PubMed Central-indexed full text articles with sequences of nucleic acid

Web Video in Numbers - An Analysis of Web-Video Metadata

Web video is often used as a source of data in various fields of study. While specialized subsets of web video, mainly earmarked for dedicated purposes, are often analyzed in detail, there is little information available about the properties of web video as a whole. In this paper we present insights gained from the analysis of the metadata associated with more than 120 million videos harvested from two popular web video platforms, vimeo and YouTube, in 2016 and compare their properties with the ones found in commonly used video collections. This comparison has revealed that existing collections do not (or no longer) properly reflect the properties of web video "in the wild".Comment: Dataset available from http://download-dbis.dmi.unibas.ch/WWIN

aFold – using polynomial uncertainty modelling for differential gene expression estimation from RNA sequencing data

    No full text
Data normalization and identification of significant differential expression represent crucial steps in RNA-Seq analysis. Many available tools rely on assumptions that are often not met by real data, including the common assumption of symmetrical distribution of up- and down-regulated genes, the presence of only few differentially expressed genes and/or few outliers. Moreover, the cut-off for selecting significantly differentially expressed genes for further downstream analysis often depend on arbitrary choices

    Encapsulating Ibuprofen using Beeswax Microspheres

Beeswax is extremely versatile, often used in candles, lubricants. This compound is readily available and is not very expensive. We are interested in using beeswax as a biodegradable capsule to self-encapsulate drugs like ibuprofen

Relation between the phenomenological interactions of the algebraic cluster model and the effective two--nucleon forces

We determine the phenomenological cluster--cluster interactions of the algebraic model corresponding to the most often used effective two--nucleon forces for the 16^{16}O + α\alpha system.Comment: Latex with Revtex, 1 figure available on reques

    Jeffreys priors for mixture estimation

While Jeffreys priors usually are well-defined for the parameters of mixtures of distributions, they are not available in closed form. Furthermore, they often are improper priors. Hence, they have never been used to draw inference on the mixture parameters. We study in this paper the implementation and the properties of Jeffreys priors in several mixture settings, show that the associated posterior distributions most often are improper, and then propose a noninformative alternative for the analysis of mixtures
