[Review of] Stanley Nelson (Producer and Director). The Black Press: Soldiers Without Swords

One of the most important institutions established in African American communities has been the Black Press. It is also an institution that has not received much of the attention it deserves. The Black Press today still consists of approximately 100 newspapers carrying on the tradition of the first Black newspaper, Freedom\u27s Journal (1827). After recently compiling a bibliography on Blacks in the U.S. West, it became obvious that whenever and wherever a Black community became established, Black newspapers immediately emerged. For example, Colorado had over one hundred, California more than twice that number, and Iowa over forty. States such as Wyoming or North Dakota that had no Black newspapers received some coverage from out-of-state Black papers. Further, some out-of-state Black newspapers also received distribution in those states with few or no Black newspapers, providing much-needed information and resources

American Indian and Alaska Native Newspapers and Periodicals, 1826-1924 is a timely and useful book, particularly with growing interest in ethnicity. The work is a directory listing more than 200 titles of American Indian and Alaska Native newspapers and periodicals . The names of the newspapers and journals are listed alphabetically as well as cross-referenced by tribal affiliation, location, and chronology. Following each title is a brief description listing the publications owner(s) and dates of publication. An index is included. The book describes the earliest newspapers up to 1924, when the Pueblo Lands Board Act was passed, giving citizenship to all Indians and legal standing to tribes

Las elecciones presidenciales de Estados Unidos desde la perspectiva de la prensa europea

Public relations strategies based on dramatization are key tools to achieving success in electoral campaigns. Press offices play a fundamental role as theatre directors, turning their leaders into great actors. What at first glance would look like a theatrical performance is, more than ever, what happened in the US presidential elections. Newspapers are intensifying the use of visual elements to reinforce the news. This research paper analyses 2,463 articles from eight digital newspapers in four countries to learn about the impact of visuals and dramatization on the European press. It seems paradoxical that the progressive newspapers devoted more articles to Trump than the conservative newspapers. A lack of time on the part of the journalists? What is certain is that the visuals prepared by Trump’s press office and his perfectly designed public appearances, were reproduced by the media. The study shows that the progressive newspapers analysed have contributed to giving Trump greater visibility in Europe
