Milestone Reinforcer Survey
Abstract: The Milestone Reinforcer Survey was developed to assess reinforcer preferences of adults with mild to profound retardation living in a variety of community settings. The survey, which includes 42 items in three categories-primary, secondary, and self reinforcers, can be administered by all levels of staff in about ten minutes. Psychometric properties of the survey were established with 120 adults, 15 males and 15 females representing each level of retardation. The total reinforcer scores for the survey are internally consistent (r = .90), consistent across raters (r = .68) and stable over time (r = .93). The potential uses for this survey for research and practice are discussed
Error-free milestones in error prone measurements
A predictor variable or dose that is measured with substantial error may
possess an error-free milestone, such that it is known with negligible error
whether the value of the variable is to the left or right of the milestone.
Such a milestone provides a basis for estimating a linear relationship between
the true but unknown value of the error-free predictor and an outcome, because
the milestone creates a strong and valid instrumental variable. The inferences
are nonparametric and robust, and in the simplest cases, they are exact and
distribution free. We also consider multiple milestones for a single predictor
and milestones for several predictors whose partial slopes are estimated
simultaneously. Examples are drawn from the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study, in
which a BA degree acts as a milestone for sixteen years of education, and the
binary indicator of military service acts as a milestone for years of service.Comment: Published in at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/08-AOAS233 the Annals of

DECIGO pathfinder
DECIGO pathfinder (DPF) is a milestone satellite mission for DECIGO (DECi-hertz Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory) which is a future space gravitational wave antenna. DECIGO is expected to provide us fruitful insights into the universe, in particular about dark energy, a formation mechanism of supermassive black holes, and the inflation of the universe. Since DECIGO will be an extremely large mission which will formed by three drag-free spacecraft with 1000m separation, it is significant to gain the technical feasibility of DECIGO before its planned launch in 2024. Thus, we are planning to launch two milestone missions: DPF and pre-DECIGO. The conceptual design and current status of the first milestone mission, DPF, are reviewed in this article

Commissioning of the ATLAS Experiment
The status of the commissioning of the ATLAS experiment as of May 2008 is
presented. The sub-detector integration in recent milestone weeks is described.
Cosmic commissioning in milestone week M6 included simultaneous data-taking and
combined track analysis of the muon detector and inner detector, as well as
combined analysis of muon detector and muon trigger. The calorimeters have
achieved near-full operation, and are integrated with the calorimeter trigger.
The high-level-trigger infrastructure is being installed and algorithms tested
in technical runs
