Synchronization of Nonlinear Circuits in Dynamic Electrical Networks with General Topologies
Sufficient conditions are derived for global asymptotic synchronization in a
system of identical nonlinear electrical circuits coupled through linear
time-invariant (LTI) electrical networks. In particular, the conditions we
derive apply to settings where: i) the nonlinear circuits are composed of a
parallel combination of passive LTI circuit elements and a nonlinear
voltage-dependent current source with finite gain; and ii) a collection of
these circuits are coupled through either uniform or homogeneous LTI electrical
networks. Uniform electrical networks have identical per-unit-length
impedances. Homogeneous electrical networks are characterized by having the
same effective impedance between any two terminals with the others open
circuited. Synchronization in these networks is guaranteed by ensuring the
stability of an equivalent coordinate-transformed differential system that
emphasizes signal differences. The applicability of the synchronization
conditions to this broad class of networks follows from leveraging recent
results on structural and spectral properties of Kron reduction---a
model-reduction procedure that isolates the interactions of the nonlinear
circuits in the network. The validity of the analytical results is demonstrated
with simulations in networks of coupled Chua's circuits
Circuit Synthesis of Electrochemical Supercapacitor Models
This paper is concerned with the synthesis of RC electrical circuits from
physics-based supercapacitor models describing conservation and diffusion
relationships. The proposed synthesis procedure uses model discretisation,
linearisation, balanced model order reduction and passive network synthesis to
form the circuits. Circuits with different topologies are synthesized from
several physical models. This work will give greater understanding to the
physical interpretation of electrical circuits and will enable the development
of more generalised circuits, since the synthesized impedance functions are
generated by considering the physics, not from experimental fitting which may
ignore certain dynamics
Finite element modeling of the neuron-electrode interface: stimulus transfer and geometry
The relation between stimulus transfer and the geometry of the neuron-electrode interface can not be determined properly using electrical equivalent circuits, since current that flows from the sealing gap through the neuronal membrane is difficult to model in these circuits. Therefore, finite element modeling is proposed as a tool for linking the electrical properties of the neuron-electrode interface to its geometr

Insights into tunnel FET-based charge pumps and rectifiers for energy harvesting applications
In this paper, the electrical characteristics of tunnel field-effect transistor (TFET) devices are explored for energy harvesting front-end circuits with ultralow power consumption. Compared with conventional thermionic technologies, the improved electrical characteristics of TFET devices are expected to increase the power conversion efficiency of front-end charge pumps and rectifiers powered at sub-µW power levels. However, under reverse bias conditions the TFET device presents particular electrical characteristics due to its different carrier injection mechanism. In this paper, it is shown that reverse losses in TFET-based circuits can be attenuated by changing the gate-to-source voltage of reverse-biased TFETs. Therefore, in order to take full advantage of the TFETs in front-end energy harvesting circuits, different circuit approaches are required. In this paper, we propose and discuss different topologies for TFET-based charge pumps and rectifiers for energy harvesting applications.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
Extremely wideband signal shaping using one- and two-dimensional nonuniform nonlinear transmission lines
We propose a class of electrical circuits for extremely wideband (EWB) signal shaping. A one-dimensional, nonlinear, nonuniform transmission line is proposed for narrow pulse generation. A two-dimensional transmission lattice is proposed for EWB signal combining. Model equations for the circuits are derived. Theoretical and numerical solutions of the model equations are presented, showing that the circuits can be used for the desired application. The procedure by which the circuits are designed exemplifies a modern, mathematical design methodology for EWB circuits
