Digitalization in Thermodynamics
Digitalization is about data and how they are used. This has always been a key topic in applied thermodynamics. In the present work, the influence of the current wave of digitalization on thermodynamics is analyzed. Thermodynamic modeling and simulation is changing as large amounts of data of different nature and quality become easily available. The power and complexity of thermodynamic models and simulation techniques is rapidly increasing, and new routes become viable to link them to the data. Machine learning opens new perspectives, when it is suitably combined with classical thermodynamic theory. Illustrated by examples, different aspects of digitalization in thermodynamics are discussed: strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats
Digitalization and the American Workforce
This Fact Sheet examines the rate of digitalization within the Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) of the Mountain West division using the findings and data from Digitalization and the American Workforce, a report from the Brookings Institution
Digitalization of International Trade
The question this article addresses is how the WTO supports and deals with digital trade. The article then analyzes how existing WTO agreements have dealt with digital trade. The article also addresses recent trade agreements particularly the USMCA
Automatic Structural Scene Digitalization
In this paper, we present an automatic system for the analysis and labeling
of structural scenes, floor plan drawings in Computer-aided Design (CAD)
format. The proposed system applies a fusion strategy to detect and recognize
various components of CAD floor plans, such as walls, doors, windows and other
ambiguous assets. Technically, a general rule-based filter parsing method is
fist adopted to extract effective information from the original floor plan.
Then, an image-processing based recovery method is employed to correct
information extracted in the first step. Our proposed method is fully automatic
and real-time. Such analysis system provides high accuracy and is also
evaluated on a public website that, on average, archives more than ten
thousands effective uses per day and reaches a relatively high satisfaction
rate.Comment: paper submitted to PloS On
Digitalization and Innovation
Developments in digital technology offer new opportunities to design new products and services. However, creating such digitalized products and services often creates new problems and challenges to firms that are trying to innovate. In this essay, we analyze the impact of digitalization of products and services on innovations. In particular, we argue that digitalization of products will lead to an emergence of new layered product architecture. The layered architecture is characterized by its generative design rules that connect loosely coupled heterogeneous layers. It is pregnant with the potential of unbounded innovations. The new product architecture will require organizations to adopt a new organizing logic of innovation that we dubbed as doubly distributed innovation network. Based on this analysis, we propose five key issues that future researchers need to explore.innovation, innovation, product architecture, design rules
How does digitalization affect headquarters and what does it mean for CEE-focused headquarters in Austria?
Headquarters (HQs) represent central units within corporationsi and their goal is to add value to the firm and its respective subunits. They do so by taking over various responsibilities, such as allocating resources within the firm, coordinating and monitoring subunits, and identifying and realizing synergies, among others.
HQs are also important for the economy of the countries they are located in, as they offer for example high-value employment, increased demand for related business services (e.g., legal and financial services), and represent a non-trivial source of tax income. Additionally, there is scientific evidence suggesting that the location of the HQ influences its investment decisions and consequently adjacent economies (e.g., investments that are in regions close to the HQ are favoured). Thus, many countries consider it important to attract and maintain HQsii.
In this article, we will focus on a topic that has not received much attention yet. Specifically, we discuss how digitalization (i.e., recent advancements in areas such as big data analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, the internet of things, etc.) influences HQs in Austria, most of which have a strong focus on CEE countries. Companies are dealing with a variety of issues stemming from digitalization, which results in changes to business models, firm processes, and company culturesiii. Yet, digitalization also affects the role and value added of the HQs but we still lack a clear understanding of thativ.
In the following, we first discuss Austria as a location for HQs, then the impact of digitalization on HQs, and finally, we explore how the digitalization might influence the attractiveness of Austria for CEE-oriented HQs. Thereby, we refer to recent empirical material that we have collected
Digital Society Ecosystem Impact on Creative Industry
Industry 4.0 phenomenon has emerged since many technological breakthroughs developed in the past decades.
Human well-being behavior are basically influenced by the digital technology. The current customers incline the need for
customized products. This situation drive the production paradigm shift from the mass production to the individual
production. This paradigm shift force companies to own more resources. Companies’ collaboration is a way to win the
competition. Industrial revolution era bring the fact that dominant economic activity is coming from a strong business
ecosystem. The major impact of digitalization is faced by the creative industries, an industry priority and a \u27laboratory\u27 for
studying economic transformation and modern society. This paper will review the digitalization in industry 4.0 era,
business ecosystem and society shift, and the digitalization impact on creative industry.

A workflow for digitalization projects
More and more institutions want to convert their traditional content to
digital formats. In such pro jects the digitalization and metadata stages
often happen asynchronously. This paper identifies the importance of
frequent cross-verification of both. We suggest a workflow to formalise
this process, and a possible technical implementation to automate this
workflow
The digitalization features of the Russian social media market insurance service
Purpose: The article aims to identify the features of digital techniques introduction and functioning in the insurance industry and the social insurance system. The information techniques used allows to quickly and with the best results to process large amounts of data, thereby increasing the efficiency of all the spheres to reduce social and commercial risks.
Design/Methodology/Approach: In order to substantiate introducing the digital techniques expediency in the activity of the insurance system, it is necessary, first, to consider the advantages and disadvantages of information techniques use in the commercial and social insurance. Second, to describe the main digital programs, the implementation of which will increase the targeting and personalization of insurance services.
Findings: For the digital techniques introduction in the sphere of insurance relations it is necessary to form the wholly new structure of insurance assets that meet the priorities of the digital economy; to create the necessary conditions for the development and implementation of modern actuarial techniques; to create conditions for increasing incomes and the life standard of the population in order to stimulate demand for insurance services; to change the structure and quality of social services.
Practical implications: The results of the study can be implemented in the practice of social funds and insurance companies in order to improve the quality of insurance services.
Originality/value: The main contribution of this research is to transfer the processes and mechanisms for the global digital economy and global digital space formation to the social and insurance relations.peer-reviewe
Design of an Efficient Interconnection Network of Temperature Sensors
Temperature has become a first class design constraint because high temperatures adversely affect circuit reliability, static power and degrade the performance. In this scenario, thermal characterization of ICs and on-chip temperature monitoring represent fundamental tasks in electronic design. In this work, we analyze the features that an interconnection network of temperature sensors must fulfill. Departing from the network topology, we continue with the proposal of a very light-weight network architecture based on digitalization resource sharing. Our proposal supposes a 16% improvement in area and power consumption compared to traditional approache
