Detector absorptivity measuring method and apparatus
A method and apparatus for measuring the absorptivity of a radiation detector by making the detector an integral part of a cavity radiometer are described. By substituting the detector for the surface of the cavity upon which the radiation first impinges a comparison is made between the quantity of radiation incident upon the detector and the quantity reflected from the detector. The difference between the two is a measurement of the amount of radiation absorbed by the detector
Impulse-response functions of several detectors used in flow-injection analysis
A procedure for the determination of the impulse-response function of a detector is given. Its application to photometers, ion-sensitive field effect transistors, a potentiometric detector at constant current and a voltammetric detector shows that the impulse-response function can be used to obtain specific information about the performance of the detector in the manifold. This function clearly shows the contribution of the detector to the peak broadening and how the detector generates the final signal from the presented concentration profile. From this information one could derive improvements to the detector, such as changing the construction of the detector cell, minimizing the influence of other parts of the manifold or adapting the attached electronics
LCDG4 and DigiSim - Simulation activities at NICADD/NIU
We present two software packages developed to support detector R&D studies
for the International Linear Collider. LCDG4 is a full-detector simulator that
provides energy deposits from particles traversing the sensitive volumes of the
detector. It has been extensively used within the American ILC community,
providing data for algorithm development and detector optimization studies.
DigiSim models real-life digitization effects, converting the idealized
response into simulated detector readout. It has many useful features to
improve the realism in modeling detector response. The main characteristics of
these two complementary packages are discussed.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, submitted to LCWS05 conference proceedings. Uses

Meteoroid detector
A meteoroid detector is described which uses, a cold cathode discharge tube with a gas-pressurized cell in space for recording a meteoroid puncture of the cell and for determining the size of the puncture
Combustion detector
A device has been developed for generating a rapid response signal upon the radiation-emitting combustion reaction of certain gases in order to provide a means for the detection and identification of such reaction and concurrently discriminate against spurious signals. This combustion might be the first stage of a coal mine explosion process, and thereby this device could provide a warning of the impending explosion in time to initiate quenching action. This device has the capability of distinguishing between the light emitted from a combustion reaction and the light emitted by miners' lamps, electric lamps, welding sparks or other spurious events so that the quenching mechanism is triggered only when an explosion-initiating combustion occurs
