Augkit: an Augmented Drum Set System Designed for Live Performance
Augkit is an augmented drum set system designed for live performance. Augkit consists of a drum kit, microphone, audio interface, MIDI pad controller with foot switches, set of speakers, and a computer. I designed the processing audio engine in the visual programming language Max. Max processes the audio signal in a variety of ways that include delays, flanger, reverb, and synthesis that depend on the frequency content of the signal. Foot switches and MIDI pads toggle and modify the parameters of Augkit. This approach to playing drum set proves to be very flexible and offers new aesthetic possibilities for live performance and interaction with other musicians
Learned versus Hand-Designed Feature Representations for 3d Agglomeration
For image recognition and labeling tasks, recent results suggest that machine
learning methods that rely on manually specified feature representations may be
outperformed by methods that automatically derive feature representations based
on the data. Yet for problems that involve analysis of 3d objects, such as mesh
segmentation, shape retrieval, or neuron fragment agglomeration, there remains
a strong reliance on hand-designed feature descriptors. In this paper, we
evaluate a large set of hand-designed 3d feature descriptors alongside features
learned from the raw data using both end-to-end and unsupervised learning
techniques, in the context of agglomeration of 3d neuron fragments. By
combining unsupervised learning techniques with a novel dynamic pooling scheme,
we show how pure learning-based methods are for the first time competitive with
hand-designed 3d shape descriptors. We investigate data augmentation strategies
for dramatically increasing the size of the training set, and show how
combining both learned and hand-designed features leads to the highest
accuracy
Report on the Survey of Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) in Practice
From literature study, we collected: (a) a set of core features of the RBAC model, according to the ANSI/INCITS 359:2004 RBAC standard, (b) implicit assumptions, (c) a set of strengths, and (d) a set of phenomena which may limit these strengths in practice. To acquire insights about these four elements and complement our initial set of strengths and phenomena, a survey was designed and launched online between June and July 2011. The dynamic behavior of gain scheduled controllers is highly depending on the state-space representations adopted for the family of lienar controllers designed on a set of operating conditions. In this paper, a technique for determining a set of consistent and physically motivated linear state-space transformations to be applied to the original set of linear controllers is proposed. After transformation, these controllers exhibits an-observer-based structure are therefore easily interpolted and implemented
Where the Sidewalk Ends: Jets and Missing Energy Search Strategies for the 7 TeV LHC
This work explores the potential reach of the 7 TeV LHC to new colored states
in the context of simplified models and addresses the issue of which search
regions are necessary to cover an extensive set of event topologies and
kinematic regimes. This article demonstrates that if searches are designed to
focus on specific regions of phase space, then new physics may be missed if it
lies in unexpected corners. Simple multiregion search strategies can be
designed to cover all of kinematic possibilities. A set of benchmark models are
created that cover the qualitatively different signatures and a benchmark
