Results of a Pilot Analysis of ACTEM Listserv Posts as a Tool for Examining Maine Learning Technology Initiative Program Implementation

    Get PDF
As part of its ongoing evaluation efforts of Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI), the Maine Education Policy Research Institute (MEPRI) staff examined the ACTEM listserv archives for the 2014 calendar year, which overlaps with two academic years, 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. The goal of this examination was to pilot a process for documenting and categorizing the listserv content and to determine the viability of this process in providing useful evidence of implementation of the MLTI program. The present report provides an overview of the quality and quantity of messages exchanged through the listserv and a discussion of this evidence

    Atomic components

There has been much interest in components that combine the best of state-based and event-based approaches. The interface of a component can be thought of as its specification and substituting components with the same interface cannot be observed by any user of the components. Here we will define the semantics of atomic components where both states and event can be part of the interface. The resulting semantics is very similar to that of (event only) processes. But it has two main novelties: one, it does not need recursion or unique fixed points to model nontermination; and two, the behaviour of divergence is modelled by abstraction, i.e. the construction of the observational semantics

SystemCSP is a graphical modeling language based on both CSP and concepts of component-based software development. The component framework of SystemCSP enables specification of both interaction scenarios and relative execution ordering among components. Specification and implementation of interaction among participating components is formalized via the notion of interaction contract. The used approach enables incremental design of execution diagrams by adding restrictions in different interaction diagrams throughout the process of system design. In this way all different diagrams are related into a single formally verifiable system. The concept of reusable formally verifiable interaction contracts is illustrated by designing set of design patterns for typical fault tolerance interaction scenarios

    Specifying Reusable Components

Reusable software components need expressive specifications. This paper outlines a rigorous foundation to model-based contracts, a method to equip classes with strong contracts that support accurate design, implementation, and formal verification of reusable components. Model-based contracts conservatively extend the classic Design by Contract with a notion of model, which underpins the precise definitions of such concepts as abstract equivalence and specification completeness. Experiments applying model-based contracts to libraries of data structures suggest that the method enables accurate specification of practical software
