Cyber Security Awareness Among College Students

This study reports the early results of a study aimed to investigate student awareness and attitudes toward cyber security and the resulting risks in the most advanced technology environment: the Silicon Valley in California, USA. The composition of students in Silicon Valley is very ethnically diverse. The objective was to see how much the students in such a tech-savvy environment are aware of cyber-attacks and how they protect themselves against them. The early statistical analysis suggested that college students, despite their belief that they are observed when using the Internet and that their data is not secure even on university systems, are not very aware of how to protect their data. Also, it appears that educational institutions do not have an active approach to improve awareness among college students to increase their knowledge on these issues and how to protect themselves from potential cyber-attacks, such as identity theft or ransomware

Amount of Knowledge about Sex Trafficking in the United States among Valparaiso University Students

This research proposal will address awareness among students, concentrating on males, at Valparaiso University. Little research has been conducted on awareness alone, let alone awareness of college students. Therefore, this research will be filling a gap. It’s important for low awareness levels to increase because awareness is the first step toward change. The researchers will develop an online survey to be administered to a sample of the students attending Valparaiso University to gauge their awareness. After the results are collected, they will be analyzed, and reported upon. Sex trafficking is a major problem for the United States. Finding out college students’ awareness will help identify how much the educated future generation knows about sex trafficking so that they will be able to combat it. Education is key. This study will be useful for nonprofit and government organizations seeking to educate the general population about sex trafficking. This study will show whether men or women know more about sex trafficking and at what year in college they know more and less. The study can pinpoint the at risk groups who are the most unaware and target them specifically

GMO Awareness and Eating Behaviors Among College Students

This study examines college students’ awareness of genetically modified (GM) foods and whether it alters his or her eating behaviors. This study draws on data from a sample of 318 undergraduate students enrolled at the University of New Hampshire, who completed an online survey via Qualtrics. The survey looked specifically at how aware students are of genetically modified foods, and how many GM meals he or she consumes per week. The results of this survey showed a strong correlation between higher levels of awareness and more consumption of GM food. These findings suggest that people with less awareness of GM food may be uninformed of the prevalence of genetically altered food in our society

Employee involvement in and perceptions of campus alcohol and drug abuse prevention programming at UW-Stout

Plan BNational research has continually shown that college campuses nationwide foster many alcohol and drug use behaviors. It is suggested that faculty and staff may hold several misperceptions in regard to the prevalence and nature of the alcohol and drug use. Many college campus employees may tolerate the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs which may in turn lead students to mistake tolerance for acceptance. This study was conducted to determine the level of difference for levels of perceptions of campus policy and the amount of tolerance for alcohol and drug use for employees at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Participants completed the Faculty and Staff Environmental Alcohol and Other Drug Survey to measure both their level of perceptions and their level of tolerance. Results would be used to determine whether knowledge and awareness of campus policy would heighten awareness of alcohol and drug use on campus as well as decrease levels of tolerance in a college campus environment

Upon graduation I will have received no honors. After four years of college, thirty-seven courses, ten labs, two sets of major requirements and several almost complete minors, I have won the ultimate consolation prize: a diploma. I know that not everyone has the privilege of going to college and I also know that those who start college do not always make it to the end, some not even through the first week. The Context of Sexual Risk among African-American Female College Students

Objective: To assess the sexually transmitted infection (STI) awareness, sexual risk behaviors, and related contextual factors of African-American female college students. Participants: Eighty-nine African-American first year female students attending a majority public four-year college in the southern U.S. participated in the study in Spring, 2006. Methods: Participants completed an anonymous self-administered paper-and-pencil survey and received a $15 cash incentive. Results: Participants were highly knowledgeable and aware about STIs and their consequences. While this awareness translated into low levels of risk for many, still others engaged in behaviors and maintained beliefs that could potentially put them at high risk for contracting STIs. Conclusions: Given the disproportionate rates of STIs among young African-American females, researchers must not ignore the non-behavioral factors (i.e. beliefs and perceptions) that may influence sexual risk behaviors to help in determining optimal methods for intervention and prevention among young African-American females

Long-term Impact of a Campus Suicide Prevention Program

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for college students (AAS, 2012; CDC, 2009).
