    A significant part of bow tuning is vertical adjustment that strives for a zero angle of attack of the arrow. This requires laborious procedures through a lengthy and tedious trial and error phase. A mechanical and mathematical model of bow and arrow geometry in the vertical plane in braced and drawn situations has been constructed and investigated. An asymmetrical scheme. rigid beams, concentrated elastic elements, and non-stretchable string are the main features of the model. Numerical results of the computer simulation are presented in tabular and graphical form. This facilitates the use of the methods by archers and coaches

    Evolution of bow-arrow technology.

    This thesis examines the development of bow-arrow technology in terms of modem evolutionary theory. Previous approaches that propose functional-adaptive technological trajectories are critiqued. Different theoretical approaches towards technology and associated units of analysis are examined. Behavioural ecology, evolutionary archaeology, and dual inheritance theory are shown to hold most promise for explaining trait-lineages in a given technological tradition. Previous approaches to bow-arrow technology are analysed, and an evolutionary archaeological methodology appropriate for examining lithic armatures is presented. Environment, historical contingency, selection, drift, population dynamics and social learning mechanisms are seen as key complex factors requiring case by case examination. An evolutionary case study with nine temporally, geographically, and culturally related stratigraphic phases containing a total of 3600 complete lithic armatures from the south Scandinavian middle Mesolithic (c. 6600-5400 BC) is presented. The phases are described in terms of associated fine-grained archaeological data and previous interpretations. A Bayesian chronological framework is constructed for the case study, using modelling facilities in the OxCal calibration package. This method time-steps and calculates relative occupation durations of point bearing phases in terms of available archaeological and radiometric data. The chronological model covers the culture-historical periods termed Blak, Kongemose and Early Ertebolle phases. The validity of previous typological interpretations of projectile point sequences is questioned in light of these results. The nine time-stepped lithic armature assemblages are then analysed to describe inter- and intra-site point trait variation. A linked series of descriptive and multivariate statistical techniques identify key morphological attributes that summarise trait variation within and between phases. Variation is graphically represented and related to different social learning populations, reduction strategies, and engineering constraints. A remarkably long-term homogenous pattern of complex projectile point manufacture is found for the Kongemose phases, compared to the temporally bracketing Blak and Ertebolle phases. Faunal, climatic, and population level factors are then modelled to account for variation and stability of the case study's armature traits. Faunal data from the Tagerup and Segebro sites, spanning the case study period, are examined for possible diet breadth changes, in relation to point-trait variation. No functional relationship is found between point-shape and potential target-prey. A population model is then constructed in OxCal using all published south Scandinavian radiometric data from the final Maglemose to the final Ertebolle cultural phases. A simple model of landmass reduction, forestation cover and mammalian population density levels demonstrates reduced land mass alone would not significantly affect human population levels - even with relatively high human population densities. Holocene 5180 and A14C data is used as a proxy for contemporaneous climatic fluctuations. These proxies are plotted and superimposed onto the population graph. A correlation between climate change, population fluctuation, and projectile point technology is found. As changes in point morphology and lithic reduction strategies coincide with apparent regional drops in population, drift processes may account for some variation in point-shape

    Dalam ilmu kedokteran forensik, luka dijelaskan sebagai hasil kekerasan fisik yang merusak jaringan tubuh, dengan trauma sebagai luka yang disebabkan oleh kekerasan fisik, mekanik, atau kimiawi. Kekerasan, baik secara medis maupun psikologis, mengacu pada perilaku yang menyebabkan cedera. Sebuah laporan kasus mengungkapkan dampak serius luka tusuk akibat anak panah, menekankan perlunya penanganan medis cepat. Anak panah, meskipun terkait dengan olahraga panahan, dapat menyebabkan bahaya serius jika tidak digunakan dengan benar, seringkali terkait dengan kurangnya pengawasan dan pelanggaran protokol keamanan. Pemahaman mendalam tentang kasus semacam ini menjadi krusial bagi tenaga medis, penegak hukum, dan masyarakat secara umum. Laporan kasus ini adalah seorang laki-laki berusia tujuh belas tahun dengan inisial MAH dilarikan ke IGD RS Bhayangkara Kota Makassar pada tanggal 24 November 2023 setelah mengalami serangan di rumahnya. Korban mencoba menutup pagar depan rumah saat lampu jalan mati, dan tiba-tiba diserang oleh dua pelaku yang mengendarai motor, satu di antaranya menggunakan anak panah busur yang menusuk kepala kiri korban. Setelah kejadian, para pelaku segera melarikan diri. Pemeriksaan fisik menunjukkan korban dalam keadaan sadar penuh, dengan luka tusuk anak panah busur tertancap di kepala kiri. Hasil radiologi X-Ray menunjukkan adanya benda asing berbahan logam tertancap pada kepala kiri korban. Pemeriksaan lainnya mencatat parameter vital korban dalam batas normal. Kesimpulan dari kasus ini bahwa berdasarkan deskripsi luka pada pemeriksaan forensik, Terdapat 1 (satu) luka tusuk di kepala kiri akibat trauma tajam (anak panah busur), hasil pemeriksaan radiologi foto kepala tampak benda asing berbahan metal tertancap pada kepala kiri. Akibat dari luka tersebut bisa merusak jaringan otak dan menimbulkan perdarahan pada otak yang bisa mengancam jiwa, sehingga masuk dalam kategori luka berat, pada korban dilakukan perawatan dan rawat inap serta rencana operasi untuk penanganan lebih lanjut. Aspek medikolegal menyoroti kewajiban dokter memberikan klarifikasi objektif. Laporan menekankan pendekatan holistik dalam penanganan medis dan investigasi hukum serta perlunya pemahaman interaksi anak panah dengan tubuh manusia untuk pengembangan teknologi yang lebih aman

    Combats between humans and animals on Mycenaean seals

    One class of representation on Mycenaean seals, the combats between humans and animals, is the subject of this thesis. It is hoped that the study of this uniform group of 42 seals may illustrate aesthetic and other criteria for dating seals as a whole as well as shed some light on the interactions between the Aegean and the Orient and Egypt through the type (form) and meaning (content) of elemental motifs employed. After a definition of actual and possible combat scenes which shall be included in our survey, we proceed to distinguish Mycenaean from Cretan and modern gems and, on the basis of aesthetics, shape, dimensions, material and technique, to order the Helladic sealstones chronologically. Such a chronological arrangement is prerequisite to an analysis of the elements of human and animal positions, weapon, landscape, dress, hair, miscellaneous objects and composition, as they appear in human-lion, human-boar, human-non-bovine ruminant, human-bull and human-fantastic animal scenes. Once we know when such elements entered the Mycenaean repertoire, we may look to the arts of Crete, Egypt and the Near East for their contemporary or previous appearance, and thereby observe native initiative or foreign intrusions in the depiction of the combat theme in Greece. It is seen that, aside from some accessories of dress and hair, the mode of combating animals from a chariot with a bow and arrow, some miscellaneous objects, antithetic and Group V bull composition, and the subject of human-fantastic animal encounters, the theme and manner of expression of human-animal combats developed largely in the Aegean. Although there was great interaction between Crete and Greece, which may have provided the themes of ruminant and possibly bull combat, yet the subject matter of lion and boar combats and the idea of confronting the beast with short range weapons was a Helladic contribution. The interpretation of underlying significance of human-animal combat scenes is shown to be quite uncertain and although there may exist possible hints of religious or mythological connotation, no general conclusions can be drawn about any particular combat theme or about man-animal combats as a whole.<p
