Media companies in various countries are transforming and upgrading to improve their competitiveness in the digital economy. However, existing research only focuses on the issue of how media companies transform while ignoring whether internal governance mechanisms such as compensation incentives can promote corporate value during the transformation process. According to the principal-agent theory, we examined the incentive effects of the executive compensation system in terms of monetary compensation, equity compensation, and perks in a sample of Chinese media companies in the process of transformation and upgrading. The results have revealed that monetary compensation does not have a significant incentive effect, and equity compensation and perks have an incentive effect when they are in the suitable range. Based on the results, we proposed policy recommendations from three aspects: monetary compensation, equity compensation, and perks. This study complements the research content on the executive compensation system in media enterprises’ transformation and upgrading. It can provide a reference for setting the administrative compensation system for media companies in China and other emerging economies.</div

Interpretable Machine Learning-Based Model to Classify and Optimize Isoperibolic Batch Reactors

    No full text
It is crucial to classify and optimize the thermal behaviors of isoperibolic batch reactors. This article aims to construct an improved supervised machine learning-based (ML-based) model to achieve the task. First, using the minimum redundancy maximum relevance algorithm, the k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) algorithm with a feature subset consisting of 18 dimensions is selected due to the highest total recognition accuracy in 27 different ML algorithms. Additionally, a cost-sensitive learning approach and Bayesian optimization algorithm are employed to further optimize the hyper-parameters of the k-NN model. The accuracies of all data sets using the optimal k-NN model are all 99.8%, indicating that the optimal k-NN model has a superior performance and a good generalization ability. Then, two cases coupled with interpretability techniques are used to interpret the optimal k-NN model. Finally, based on the optimal k-NN model, two novel optimization frameworks (single-objective and multiobjective) are proposed to optimize the mentioned pilot-scale case, and the results prove that the optimization frameworks are reasonable and reliable

Pd(II)-catalyzed monoarylation of 2-phenylpyridine <i>N</i>-oxide with iodobenzene in water

<p>A Pd(II)-catalyzed activation and arylation of C(<i>sp</i>2)–H bond directed by pyridine <i>N</i>-oxide in water is achieved with high regioselectivity to form monoarylated products in yields up to 91%. The wide substrate scope highlights the flexibility of the catalyst. The reaction mechanism was proposed and the application of this method was taken as an example by the synthesis of COX-2 inhibitor analog.</p
