Distance learning is a flourishing area, with the number of programs, provided via remote delivery, increasing daily. At the same time, however, progress in the field of accessibility and support for learners, who want to pursue education and training in the area of materials science and engineering, has not always kept pace. An individual interested in taking a materials course, or in simply finding out what is available, may find himself/herself forced to locate and then plough through many unwieldy online course listings. This may discourage many learners from pursuing the distance learning option. In recent years, more and more distance learning databases have been developed and made available on the World Wide Web. These distance-learning databases are aimed to offer an information pool on many courses and programs that are available online and to cater for users' specific needs of locating information. This need is equally applicable to the area of materials science and engineering. The purpose of this current research has been to explore Information and Technology aspects of materials databases and closely study distance learning aspects. [Continues.

Probiotics MEP+ can increase fowl weight and weft efficiency, therefore it is important to know probiotics MEP+ effect at different dosage toward reproduction aspect. This research aimed to examine duck reproduction organ size suplemented with probiotics MEP+ with different dosage within 30 days. This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments with different dosages within 30 days which was without probiotic\u27s application or control (K), 0,75 ml/kg wefts (P1) dose, 1,5 ml/kg wefts (P2) dose, a n d 3 ml/kg wefts (P3) dose. Each treatment repeated 8 times. Total 40 ducks raised in floor dry cage system. At 31st day of treatment duck reproduction system organ was measured. Whole results show increase average data (±SD) for weight of both right and left testis, and liver weight with highly probiotics dosage it, however the analysis result statistic not significant (P>0,05) except weight of right left testis with duck weight or gonadosomatic indeks (GSI) were very significant (P<0,01) among all treatment at different dosages was compared control. The results is confirmed that probiotic\u27s MEP+ treatment with different dosages within 30 days gave no effect towards duck reproduction system organ size except to gonadosomatic indeks (GSI) male duck

The objective of this research is to stipulate the profile and learning outcome of the graduates of the Study Program of Accounting Education, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Sebelas Maret University. It is intended to help the Indonesian government to prepare the qualified teacher of Accounting subject matter according to the perceptions of alumni, lecturers, stakeholders, profession associations, and decision makers. The data sources of research were 96 students, 248 alumni, 15 lecturers, 15 stakeholders, Association of Accounting Educator Profession of Indonesia, and Chief of the Study Program of Accounting Education, Sebelas Maret University. The data of research were collected through observation, documentation, and FGD. They were analyzed by using the qualitative approach. The results of research show that (1) the profile of the graduates of the Study Program of Accounting Education includes the prospective teachers of Accounting subject matter for Vocational High Schools and Senior Secondary Schools who major in Introduction to Accounting and Finance, Number Processing/Spreadsheet, Banking, Accounting of Service and Trading Company, Financial Accounting, Accounting Computer, Accounting of Manufacturing Company, and Tax Administration; prospective Accounting instructors at non-formal education programs;; edupreneurs in the field of accounting and finance; junior researchers in the field of accounting and finance; and assistant accountants, and (2) the learning outcome expected includes attitude, knowledge, general and special skills, characters, and transferable soft skills which are relevant with the demands of the general public

An analog of glibenclamide selectively enhances autophagic degradation of misfolded α1-antitrypsin Z

The classical form of α1-antitrypsin deficiency (ATD) is characterized by intracellular accumulation of the misfolded variant α1-antitrypsin Z (ATZ) and severe liver disease in some of the affected individuals. In this study, we investigated the possibility of discovering novel therapeutic agents that would reduce ATZ accumulation by interrogating a C. elegans model of ATD with high-content genome-wide RNAi screening and computational systems pharmacology strategies. The RNAi screening was utilized to identify genes that modify the intracellular accumulation of ATZ and a novel computational pipeline was developed to make high confidence predictions on repurposable drugs. This approach identified glibenclamide (GLB), a sulfonylurea drug that has been used broadly in clinical medicine as an oral hypoglycemic agent. Here we show that GLB promotes autophagic degradation of misfolded ATZ in mammalian cell line models of ATD. Furthermore, an analog of GLB reduces hepatic ATZ accumulation and hepatic fibrosis in a mouse model in vivo without affecting blood glucose or insulin levels. These results provide support for a drug discovery strategy using simple organisms as human disease models combined with genetic and computational screening methods. They also show that GLB and/or at least one of its analogs can be immediately tested to arrest the progression of human ATD liver disease.</div

1st International round robin on EL imaging: automated camera calibration and image normalisation

Results from the first international Round Robin on electroluminescence (EL) imaging of PV devices are presented. 17 Laboratories across Europe, Asia and the US measured EL images of ten commercially available modules and five single-cell modules. This work presents a novel automated camera calibration and image scaling routine. Its performance is quantified through comparing intensity deviation of corrected images and their cell average. While manual calibration includes additional measurement of lens distortion and flat field, the automated calibration extracts camera calibration parameters (here: lens distortion, and vignetting) exclusively from EL images. Although it is shown that the presented automated calibration outperforms the manual one, the method proposed in this work uses both manual and automated calibration. 501 images from 24 cameras are corrected. Intensity deviation of cell averages of every measured device decreased from 10.3 % (results submitted by contributing labs) to 2.8 % (proposed method), For three images the image correction produced insufficient results and vignetting correction failed for one camera, known of having a non-linear camera sensor. Surprisingly, largest image quality improvements are achieved by spatially precise image alignment of the same device and not by correcting for vignetting and lens distortion. This is due to overall small lens distortion and the circumstance that, although vignetting caused intensity reduction of more than 50%, PV devices are generally positioned in the image centre in which vignetting distortion is lowest
