REVIEW ARTICLE: SOLUBILITY ENHANCEMENT BY SOLID DISPERSION

    Get PDF
Enhancement of solubility, dissolution rate and bioavailability of the drug is a very challenging task in drug development, nearly 40% of the new chemical entities currently being discovered are poorly water soluble drugs. The solubility behaviour of the drugs remains one of the most challenging aspects in formulation development. This results in important products not reaching the market or not achieving their full potential. Solid dispersion is one of the techniques adopted for the formulation of such drugs and various methods are used for the preparation of solid dispersion. Solid dispersion is generally prepared with a drug which is having poor aqueous solubility and hydrophilic carrier. This article review various methods and concept of solid dispersion, criteria for drug selection, advantage and disadvantage, characterization, and application

    EMERGING THERAPY FOR DENGUE

Dengue fever is acute febrile diseases, it's caused by one of four closely related virus serotypes of the genusare Flavivirus, family Flaviviridae. Each serotype is sufficiently different that there is no cross-protection and epidemics caused by multiple serotypes can occurs. It's transmitted to humans by the mosquito. The incidence of dengue has grown around the world in recent a period of ten years. However, several classes of agents are in under investigation as potential anti-dengue drugs, including direct host modulators, antivirals, and RNAi therapeutics. These anti-dengue drugs in development will be reviewed here

MORINGA OLEIFERA AS A PHARMACEUTICAL EXCIPIENT

Plant gums and mucilages are being used due to their abundance in nature, safety and economy. Additives play an important role in pharmaceutical preparations like tablet, lotions, suspensions, syrups and ointments. Recent trends towards the use of the natural and nontoxic products which demand the replacement of synthetic excipients with natural ones. Moringaoleifera gum has good mucoadhesive polymer, disintegrating agent and binder. Moringa Oleiferagum show that it has high potential for industrial application especially in the food, textile and pharmaceutical industries

Objective: The main objective of this research work was to formulate and evaluate fast dissolving tablet of verapamil hydrochloride for the treatment of hypertension. Methods: In this study, fast dissolving tablet were prepared by wet granulation method by using croscarmellose sodium and sodium starch glycolate as superdisintegrants in the concentration of 2%, 4%, and 6%. Polyvinyl pyrollidone K30 is used as a binder. The designed tablets were subjected to various assessment parameters like friability test, hardness test, disintegration test, wetting time, in vitro drug release and drug content. Results: All the prepared formulations were subjected to various assessment parameters, and the findings obtain within the prescribed limit. The calibration curve of pure drug using various solvents like distilled water, phosphate buffer pH 6.8 was plotted. F1-F9 containing croscarmellose sodium and sodium starch glycolate in various concentration demonstrate the minimum disintegration time. Among all these formulations F8 shows disintegration time upto 19±0.06 seconds due to the high concentration of superdisintegrants. In vitro drug release was tested in phosphate buffer pH 6.8 at a time interval of 0, 1, 3,6,9,12,15 min. The F8 shows drug release 98.5±0.567%. Accelerated stability study of optimized formulation (F8) up to 2 mo showed there was no change in disintegration time and percentage drug release. Conclusion: The results obtained in the research work clearly showed a promising potential of fast dissolving tablets containing a specific ratio of crosscarmellose sodium and sodium starch glycolate as superdisintegrants for the effective treatment of hypertension.Â

Objective: To develop and evaluate in situ nasal mucoadhesive gel of metoprolol succinate. Methods: In situ nasal mucoadhesive gel was formulated by cold method using Carbopol 940 as a pH sensitive polymer, xanthan gum as a mucoadhesive polymer and PEG 400 as the penetration enhancer. A 32 full factorial designs was successfully applied for the optimization. All the formulated gels were evaluated for different chemical and physical characteristics. In vitro release data were fitted to different models to know exact mechanism of drug release. Results: All the prepared in situ gel showed good In vitro drug release profile. Carbopol 940 and xanthan gum in higher concentrations were effective in sustaining the release of drug up to 8 hrs. In vitro permeation study showed that optimized F4 batch permeates 95% at 8th hr. Conclusion: In situ nasal mucoadhesive gel was fond to be effective in sustaining the release of the drug up to 8 hrs hence it could be a useful formulation as a alternative therapy in management of hypertension
