Changes in the Matrilineal System within Minangkabau Children's Carito
This article explores the transformation of the matrilineal system within Minangkabau children’s carito. In general, children’s carito are considered bedtime stories that convey positive values; as such, research into them has focused on values. Children’s carito have been collected through interviews with storytellers who retain the carito within their memories. The memories of these storytellers have changed together with changes in the storytellers themselves and in their environments. To explore the changes in the matrilineal system within the carito, one story has been analyzed over three generations (from grandparents, parents, to children). Changes in the matrilineal system are evidenced through the carito characters’ emergence and disappearance, their actions, and their interactions with their mothers, who—as in the matrilineal system—are central within the carito. Changes, differences, and behaviors within the carito indicate the dynamic transformation of communal families to conjugal families and ultimately nuclear families
Assessment of Water Quality of Mahanadi and It\u27s Tributary Katha Jodi River, Cuttack District, Odisha
For all living things, water is one of the most important sources. Despite being a renewable resource, clean water scarcity is a major problem in many regions of the world. We require water for a variety of things, including food production, personal hygiene, electrical generation, fire control, and most importantly, survival. Nine sampling stations were chosen at various locations along the Mahanadi and its tributary, the Katha Jodi River, in the Cuttack area (S1-S9). To collect a tiny amount of water from the water source for water analysis and to look at the physico-chemical components that are present in the water, sampling is done. Our study sites\u27 dissolved oxygen concentrations range from 3.9 to 5.8 mg/lit, and the water samples from all of the sites are only mildly alkaline. All study sites have alkalinities below 150 mg/lit, ranging from 129 mg/lit to 162 mg/lit. All of the study sites\u27 water conductivities are within the typical range of river water, or 200 to 1000 mhos/cm. All of the study locations, with the exception of our study sites 1 and 2, have high nitrate levels of greater than 100 mg/lit. Our study sites had phosphate concentrations between 0.8 and 2.0 mg/lit, and a river shouldn\u27t have more phosphates than 0.1 mg/L. Over these limits, phosphorus can be quite hazardous
Impact of using Modern Technology in Preserving Traditional Stories
Many traditional Minangkabau stories are lost from the community (Minangkabau people). Creativity is required to make this cultural asset survive. One of the methods is using technology as a tool to preserve the stories. Traditional stories survive and are still enjoyed today because they have been transformed into various forms and taken advantage of by technological advances. However, some positive and negative impacts affect the existence and development of the story. This article will describe the positive and negative effects of using technology on traditional stories and their society. The data were obtained from literary studies and field studies
Utilization of Folklore in Optimizing Ngarai Sianok Tourist Destination in Bukittinggi West Sumatra Indonesia
This study aims to provide recommendations for folklore branding strategies for the Ngarai Sianok tourist destination in Bukittinggi as an effort to restore tourism in Bukttinggi. The research method used is descriptive qualitative by conducting a literature review of folklore and data relating to the Ngarai Sianok tourist destination as the primary data. Supporting data is in the form of data obtained from scientific articles and popular articles, as well as interviews with relevant subjects, such as the Tourism Office, Tour and Travel Agents, and tour guides. Data analysis uses the storynomics theory by Robert Mcee and Thomas Gerace by focusing on stories as a strategy to improve the economy, in this case through tourist destinations. The results of this study are that folklore has a positive influence to be developed as a branding strategy for Ngarai Sianok tourist destinations. Folklore can become narratives of tour guides and narratives of tourism promotion at this destination. In addition, folklore can be an inspiration for making souvenirs that can improve the community's creative economy around tourist destinations. Utilizing folklore can enhance the reputation of the Ngarai Sianok and become a medium for character education in a fun way. The dissemination of the Legend of Ngarai Sianok can also be an effort to preserve the folklore of Bukittinggi and support the realization of Indonesian tourism based on local wisdom
