    Test vectors for Rankin-Selberg LL-functions

    We study the local zeta integrals attached to a pair of generic representations (π,τ)(\pi,\tau) of GLn×GLmGL_n\times GL_m, n>mn>m, over a pp-adic field. Through a process of unipotent averaging we produce a pair of corresponding Whittaker functions whose zeta integral is non-zero, and we express this integral in terms of the Langlands parameters of π\pi and τ\tau. In many cases, these Whittaker functions also serve as a test vector for the associated Rankin-Selberg (local) LL-function.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1804.0772

    Exciton-exciton interaction and biexciton formation in bilayer systems

    We report quantum Monte Carlo calculations of biexciton binding energies in ideal two-dimensional bilayer systems with isotropic electron and hole masses. We have also calculated exciton-exciton interaction potentials, and pair distribution functions for electrons and holes in bound biexcitons. Comparing our data with results obtained in a recent study using a model exciton-exciton potential [C. Schindler and R. Zimmermann, Phys. Rev. B \textbf{78}, 045313 (2008)], we find a somewhat larger range of layer separations at which biexcitons are stable. We find that individual excitons retain their identity in bound biexcitons for large layer separations.Comment: 7 pages, 11 figures, 2 table

    Microscopic picture of aging in SiO2

    We investigate the aging dynamics of amorphous SiO2 via molecular dynamics simulations of a quench from a high temperature T_i to a lower temperature T_f. We obtain a microscopic picture of aging dynamics by analyzing single particle trajectories, identifying jump events when a particle escapes the cage formed by its neighbors, and by determining how these jumps depend on the waiting time t_w, the time elapsed since the temperature quench to T_f. We find that the only t_w-dependent microscopic quantity is the number of jumping particles per unit time, which decreases with age. Similar to previous studies for fragile glass formers, we show here for the strong glass former SiO2 that neither the distribution of jump lengths nor the distribution of times spent in the cage are t_w-dependent. We conclude that the microscopic aging dynamics is surprisingly similar for fragile and strong glass formers.Comment: 4 pages, 7 figure

    Relativistic corrections to the electromagnetic polarizabilities of compound systems

    The low-energy amplitude of Compton scattering on the bound state of two charged particles of arbitrary masses, charges and spins is calculated. A case in which the bound state exists due to electromagnetic interaction (QED) is considered. The term, proportional to ω2\omega^2, is obtained taking into account the first relativistic correction. It is shown that the complete result for this correction differs essentially from the commonly used term Δα\Delta\alpha, proportional to the r.m.s. charge radius of the system. We propose that the same situation can take place in the more complicated case of hadrons.Comment: 19 pages, LaTe

    Pressure inequalities for nuclear and neutron matter

    We prove several inequalities using lowest-order effective field theory for nucleons which give an upper bound on the pressure of asymmetric nuclear matter and neutron matter.
