Table_1_A Pyroptosis-Related Gene Panel in Prognosis Prediction and Immune Microenvironment of Human Endometrial Cancer.DOCX

As the second common diagnosed cancer among gynecological tumors, endometrial cancer (EC) has heterogeneous pathogenesis and clinical manifestations. Therefore, prognosis prediction that considers gene expression value and clinical characteristics, is helpful to patients with EC. We downloaded RNA expression and clinical data from the TCGA database. We achieved 4 DEPRGs and constructed the PRG panel by univariate, lasso and multivariate Cox analysis. Based on the median value of the risk score, patients were divided into two groups. The Kaplan–Meier curve suggested that the patients with lower risk scores had better clinical outcomes of EC. AUC of ROC curves suggested the panel can be used as an independent predictor. Future analysis indicated the positive correlations between risk score and clinical characteristics. What’s more, we performed GO and KEGG functional analysis and immune environment exploration to get an understanding of the potential molecular mechanism and immunotherapeutic target. To future validate the panel, we found that the relapse-free and overall survival probability of 4 prognostic DEPRGs between high-expression group and low-expression group were different through the Kaplan–Meier plotter in UCEC. In addition, GEPIA database and RT-PCR experiment indicated GPX4 and GSDMD were highly expressed in UCEC compared to normal endometrial tissue, and TIRAP and ELANE were downregulated. This study identified a PRG panel to predict the prognosis immune microenvironment in human EC. Then, Kaplan–Meier analysis and AUC below the ROC curves was used to validate the panel. In addition, Chi-square was used to show the clinical significance. GO, KEGG and GSEA were used to show the functional differences. Different immune-related databases were used to analyze the immune characteristics. The Kaplan–Meier plotter website was used to assess the effect of genes on survival. GEPIA and RT-PCR were used to analyze the expression level. In summary, we identified 4 prognosis-associated pyroptosis-related genes (ELANE, GPX4, GSDMD, and TIRAP). The panel can also predict prognosis prediction and immune microenvironment in human endometrial cancer.</p

Phonological competition in Mandarin spoken word recognition

    No full text
Most of the world’s languages use both segment and lexical tone to distinguish word meanings. However, the few studies on spoken word recognition in tone languages show conflicting results concerning the relative contribution of (sub-)syllabic constituents, and the time course of how segmental and tonal information is utilised. In Experiments 1 & 2, participants listened to monosyllabic Mandarin words with the presence of a phonological competitor, which overlaps in either segmental syllable, onset and tone, rhyme and tone, or just tone. Eye movement results only confirmed the segmental syllable competition effect. Experiment 3 investigated the time course of segmental vs. tonal cue utilisation by manipulating their point of divergence (POD) and found that POD modulates the look trajectories of both segmental and tonal phonological competitors. While listeners can use both segmental and tonal information incrementally to constrain lexical activation, segmental syllable plays an advantageous role in Mandarin spoken word recognition.</p

Tribological Properties of Phosphate Ester Confined between Iron-Based Surfaces

    No full text
Recent studies have revealed that phosphate ester lubricant additives undergo decomposition and polymerization when confined between two iron-based surfaces, forming tribofilms that play a crucial role in antiwear and friction reduction. However, the behaviors of decomposition and polymerization, as well as the mechanisms behind the antiwear and friction-reducing properties of these tribofilms, remain largely unexplored. To address these gaps, we employed reactive force field molecular dynamics (ReaxFF-MD) to investigate the tribochemical reactions and tribological properties of tricresyl phosphate (TCP) and tri-n-butyl phosphate (TNBP) confined between three types of iron-based substrates with varying oxygen content: α-Fe⟨110⟩, amorphous FeO (a-FeO), and amorphous Fe2O3 (a-Fe2O3) surfaces. Our findings indicate that TCP and TNBP molecules primarily undergo dissociation of P–O and C–O bonds, a process influenced by both the oxygen content of the substrates and the molecular structure of the additives. Following the dissociation of these bonds, the released carbon–hydrogen groups adsorb onto the substrates, leading to the formation of adsorbed carbon films on the surfaces. Simultaneously, the dissociation of P–O and C–O bonds triggers polymerization reactions, resulting in the creation of organic polyphosphate iron groups confined between the surfaces coated with adsorbed carbon films. Due to the difference in the contact state and shearing behavior between the carbon films and the organic polyphosphate iron groups, substrates with higher oxygen content exhibit relatively higher friction forces for both TCP and TNBP molecules. Additionally, TCP molecules demonstrate lower friction forces compared to those of TNBP molecules on all three iron-based substrates

Weighted Statistic in Detecting Faint and Sparse Alternatives for High-Dimensional Covariance Matrices

    No full text
<p>This article considers testing equality of two population covariance matrices when the data dimension <i>p</i> diverges with the sample size <i>n</i> (<i>p</i>/<i>n</i> → <i>c</i> > 0). We propose a weighted test statistic that is data-driven and powerful in both faint alternatives (many small disturbances) and sparse alternatives (several large disturbances). Its asymptotic null distribution is derived by large random matrix theory without assuming the existence of a limiting cumulative distribution function of the population covariance matrix. The simulation results confirm that our statistic is powerful against all alternatives, while other tests given in the literature fail in at least one situation. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.</p

Well-Dispersed Water-Soluble Pd Nanocrystals: Facile Reducing Synthesis and Application in Catalyzing Organic Reactions in Aqueous Media

    No full text
A facile one-step aqueous reducing synthetic method has been reported for the preparation of noble metal nanocrystals (or colloid) of palladium through the reduction of in situ generated aldehyde ammonia from the hydrolyzation of hexamethylenetetramine with the help of sodium oleate in water under mild conditions. The as-obtained nanocrystals were monodispersed in water with narrow size distribution, and their mean size could be tuned from 3 to 8 nm rationally. The developed synthetic route has been extended to other noble metals including Au, Ag, and Pt and bimetallic Pd−Pt nanocrystals. Meanwhile, the catalytic activities of the Pd nanocrystals were tested in aqueous media, and typically dechlorination of aryl chloride and Suzuki cross-coupling reaction are selected as model reactions. Investigations demonstrated that the Pd nanocrystals have good catalytic performance since both dehalogenation and cross-coupling reaction have high yields under current mild conditions. The results suggest that the Pd nanocrystals possess a range of potential applications including the degradation of aryl halide contaminants and the selective construction of carbon−carbon bonds for the formation of various biaryls, pharmaceuticals, and advanced materials
