    Management styles in small and medium-sized enterprises in Malaysia: A recent survey

    Management styles have received much attention as a field of study as well as practice. However, as an area of research, the literature review reveals that limited studies have attempted to investigate the management styles embraced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), especially in the Malaysian context. This study attempted to address this research issue. Data for the study was collected from 186 SMEs operating in the manufacturing sector by using structured questionnaires. The analyzed data gathered from the SMEs suggest that these firms adopted five styles of management. Among the management styles identified in the study includes; autocratic, participative, nurturance task, paternalistic and laissez-faire

    Kajian lepas berkenaan dengan sokongan berkaitan kerja di organisasi telah mendapat perhatian khusus bukan sahaja daripada ahli akademik, malah turut menerima respons yang positif daripada pengamal dalam organisasi. Dapatan kajian lepas telah membuktikan secara empirikal berkenaan dengan sokongan berkaitan kerja yang mampu mempengaruhi prestasi kerja dan kelangsungan sesebuah organisasi. Sokongan berkaitan kerja dapat difahami sebagai satu persepsi berkenaan dengan sikap yang saling menjaga dan membantu antara satu sama lain, sama ada dari segi pengawasan, bantuan kewangan, nasihat dan rasa kepunyaan dalam organisasi. Berdasarkan pemerhatian terhadap kajian lepas, sokongan berkaitan dengan kerja boleh dikategorikan kepada tiga kategori utama, iaitu sokongan penyelia, sokongan rakan kerja dan sokongan organisasi. Walau bagaimanapun, kajian lepas hanya membincangkan ketiga-tiga elemen sokongan ini secara berasingan sedangkan ketiga-tiga sokongan ini perlu dibincangkan secara integrasi kerana saling berkaitan serta melengkapi antara satu sama lain. Oleh itu, artikel ini membincangkan tentang sokongan berkaitan kerja bersandarkan penelitian kajian-kajian lepas khususnya berkaitan dengan penelitian kajian lepas mendapati bahawa terdapat tiga elemen sokongan berkaitan kerja, iaitu sokongan penyelia, sokongan rakan sekerja dan sokongan organisasi adalah diperlukan untuk memastikan prestasi kerja menjadi lebih baik dan produktiviti terus meningkat.     Sektor pembinaan merupakan sektor yang menyumbang kepada pembangunan ekonomi sesebuah negara seperti menyediakan peluang pekerjaan serta perniagaan dalam kalangan masyarakat setempat. Walau bagaimanapun sektor pembinaan juga tidak terkecuali mencatatkan kadar kemalangan yang tinggi di tempat kerja. Berdasarkan laporan dan kajiankajian lepas, sektor pembinaan merupakan salah satu sektor yang paling tinggi mencatatkan kadar kemalangan di seluruh dunia. Kemalangan yang sering berlaku di sektor pembinaan melibatkan pelbagai jenis kecederaan sehinggakan menyebabkan kematian. Situasi ini memberikan implikasi negatif bukan sahaja kepada pekerja tetapi juga pihak organisasi. Motivasi pekerja serta prestasi pekerja akan terjejas sekiranya kadar kemalangan yang tinggi dicatatkan di tempat kerja. Manakala, pihak organisasi pula berdepan dengan implikasi kewangan untuk membayar pampasan serta nama baik organisasi terjejas ekoran kemalangan. Oleh itu, artikel ini bertujuan untuk meninjau dan menganalisis kajian-kajian lepas berkenaan dengan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kadar kemalangan di tempat kerja di sektor pembinaan. Pemahaman terhadap faktor-faktor ini dapat membantu semua pihak berkepentingan termasuklah pekerja, majikan, pihak pengurusan, organisasi, kontraktor, subkontraktor serta pihak-pihak lain yang berkepentingan untuk memahami lagi mengenai faktorfaktor yang boleh mempengaruhi kemalangan di sektor pembinaan.Hasil penelitian terhadap kajian-kajian lepas menunjukkan terdapat empat faktor utama yang mempengaruhi kemalangan di tempat kerja iaitu faktor kepimpinan,faktor pengurusan dan organisasi,faktor pekerja dan faktor sumber. Berdasarkan dapatan tersebut, maka semua pihak perlu bergandingan untuk memastikan tempat kerja di sektor pembinaan akan lebih selamat dan kondusif untuk semua pihak

Therefore, in order to sustain their existence, previous researches had suggested that the SMEs must seek to establish commendable employer employee relationships. Having said so, they also acknowledged that the task was not without its difficulties. Review of past l iterature showed that there were vario us factors that influenced the relationship between employer employee. However, at the same time, questions concerning their universality, applicability and relevance have also been raised in the literature.Based on the review of previous studies, this paper attempts to identify not only the different styles of management but also to examine their focus and scope. Information from the review suggests that there are at least five common management styles and that they differ from one another

    Media literacy is the ability of individuals to understand, investigate, create, communicate, and think critically hence, media literacy should take part in accommodating health information in the evolving world. The globalization has captured the importance of media that not only educate and deliver information at the end of our fingertips but also as a powerful medium to influence. The objective of this article is to review the previous studies regarded of the level of media literacy and health the influences women particularly when making decisions on their postpartum practices after childbirth during the postpartum period. This articles also attempts to review whether food choices that are made to consider health factors or to rely heavily on local community traditions. This paper is a preliminary study of six years research related to the topic chosen. The literature research was restricted to studies published in English and Malay from 2015 to 2020.In order to understand about the media literacy and health of women, the past six years of research have conveyed that women do rely on internet, magazine, and radio for nutrition, dietary knowledge, and postpartum practices while simultaneously practicing old beliefs carried by the elderly of the family. Notably, social media and the general media play a significant role in providing information for mothers or women in general in regards to health communication retrieval and women are in no doubt have high media and health literacy when it comes to antenatal and postnatal. The relationship between media literacy influencing health and postpartum practices were consistent as majority of studies agrees that mass media influence mothers’ pre and postpartum period regardless demography, income and educational level
