This paper discusses the application of Operations Research methodology in aiding manager in decision making regarding assignment and transportation problem. The project involved here is a case study done at a medium sized plantation run by Bumiputras. There are two objectives to be achieved namely to maximize the return value in assigning types of plants to the appropriate categories of land plot and to minimize transportation and service costs to respective market center. The methods being applied are the transportation technique and the Hungarian method

    Pengenalan teori graf

    Get PDF

    Towards the appreciation of simulation

To know and to appreciate is an art. It is an art that requires understanding of ‘what’, ‘do and don’t’, ‘when and where’ and ‘is it’ components of the subject involved. Simulation is an operations research (OR) tool used in solving problems concerning a system, by imitating the system. Thus, to appreciate this tool of OR needs the clarification regarding the components of simulation. This paper presents the answers to the question of - what is simulation, how does it work, when and where should it be applied and is it worth simulating. By collecting and understanding the answers to the question mentioned will aid in appreciating simulation as a tool to decision making and forsee the future of simulation. This paper touches on various definitions collected, the main factors of simulation, its application in specific fields and analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of simulation. It is then leave to the reader to make the conclusion regarding the significance of simulation as an OR tool towards decision making

Pendekatan perbandingan cerun untuk pengaturcaraan linear

    Get PDF
Linear programming is not a new field in mathematical problem solving. Until today, various methods and approaches have been invented for solving linear programming problems. One of the methods normally used is the revised simplex . For complex problems, solved manually using revised simplex , it requires time and understanding of matrices in addition to its complexity in calculation. At the same time, due to number of iterations that has to be done, the probability of error is high. Consequently, a new method for solving linear programming problems called the Comparison of slopes was designed. Generally, this method makes comparison of the slopes of the constraints and the objective function. As a start, the scope of this study only encompasses problems of two variables

    Get PDF
This study focuses on improving the current marketing exercise in the internet service provider business. The case study refers to one of the leading internet service provider, Telekom MultimeQa. The problem faced was the ineffective implementation of the marketing strategy. The goal of h s project is to recommend a knowledge focused marketing strategy implementation model (k-marketing strategy implementation model) supported by a practical organizational design for the internet service. The objectives supporting the goal of this project are as follows: (a) to acquire knowledge on the customers' distribution and demand, customers' attitudes, usage pattern, customers' perception and satisfaction level, (b) to acquire knowledge and understanding of the current business process to recommend a better practice through knowledge creation and development, (c) to introduce a knowledge tool in the current business practice in identifling customers distribution and demand and (d) to develop a knowledge focused marketing strategy implementation model to improve the business process in acheving the business objectives. The scope of the study encompasses the identification of the prior components of a marketing strategy of the TMnet 15 15 service for the residential group. The action research approach engaged in this study is supported by the core elements of knowledge management: knowledge acquisition, knowledge creation, knowledge development and knowledge preservation. The research methods used are surveys, comparative study and case study. The outputs of h s study are as follows: recommendation of the customer-focused marketing activities that assist the internet service provider in achieving its objectives, and a knowledge focused marketing strategy implementation model supported by the proposed organizational structure concept in ensuring the achevement of a competitive edge. The benefit obtained from ths study is the improvement of the business practice, whch has led to the improvement in the revenue performance of TMnet 15 15 service

Conflict Management and Job Performance in The Banking Industry: A Malaysian Experience

    No full text
<p>The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between conflict management (CM) and job performance (JP). There are five styles of conflict management which are integrating, dominating, obliging, avoiding, and compromising. However, in this research the author only focuses on integrating, obliging and compromising styles which are considered as our independent variables and job performance as our dependent variable. Accordingly, dominating (high concern for self and low concern for others) and avoiding (low concern for self and others) styles do not fit Malaysian culture. Data consists of respondents in the banking sector. Correlation analysis were used to support the findings. It was found out that obliging and compromising has a significant relationship with job performance while no relationship exists between integrating and job performance. It appears that the reserved and soft-spoken Malaysian would opt to sacrificing their goals (obliging) and can easily agree with the outcomes of the conflict management (compromise). The individualistic-collectivist culture characteristics indicate different approach between Western and Asian managers in handling conflict management.</p&gt
