Developing a shared syllabus template as a living document of inclusive practices in a teaching and learning community
[EN] Inclusive teaching and learning is central to our educational mission. In this project, we used a whole-institution approach to make our institution’s inclusive objectives concrete and specific. We aimed to develop ways to capture our own community’s goals and objectives in a ‘living document’, a syllabus template in which insights from educational literature on diversity and inclusion are presented alongside the voices and practices of members of our own community of practice (CoP). We created the syllabus template by using the literature to list elements of inclusive design, inclusive delivery, inclusive assessment, and learning-focused syllabi, then identifying examples of those elements in syllabi of local experienced practitioners, and deepening the good practices in interviews with the experienced practitioners. The final syllabus template presents authentic practices from local syllabi, with explanations of the relevance of those examples and reference to educational literature, links to teaching tools, and contact-information for individual colleagues. The shared syllabus template deliberately situates academic development within the practice of the local CoP. We found that even the most experienced practitioners find it challenging to work on inclusive practices, which is all the more reason to stimulate a collaborative approach.Lutz, C.; Untaru, L.; Van Goch, M. Scholarly Learning of Teacher-Scholars Engaging in Interdisciplinary Education
Many higher education institutions have put interdisciplinary teaching and learning high on their agenda. We know students learn a lot from interdisciplinary education, and we know scholars learn from their educational scholarship, but what do scholars learn from engaging in interdisciplinary education? I interviewed seven mid-career scholars about what they learned and in what ways their work was appreciated. The findings illustrate that scholars learn about education, students, interdisciplinarity, their own discipline, the university, and themselves and that the scholars felt their efforts were recognized by their interdisciplinary contexts but not rewarded outside of those contexts. The study describes academic and personal struggles, pleasures, and joys of scholars starting to engage in interdisciplinary education
Performing Safety Analyses with AADL and AltaRica
AADL and AltaRica languages can be used to support the safety assessments of system architectures. These languages were defined with different concerns and this paper aims at presenting their principles and how they can be related. A translator from AADL to AltaRica is proposed and its prototype is applied to a simplified flight control system of a UAV. The resulting AltaRica model has been analyzed with the AltaRica safety tools and the experimental results are discussed
During twenty years of Cisplatin-based therapy the face of nonseminomatous testicular germ cell tumors is still changing: an evaluation of presentation, management, predictive factors and survival
Purpose: To assess the changing presentation and treatment of nonseminomatous testicular germ cell tumors (NSGCT) and to investigate predictive factors for the status of metastasis at diagnosis and on relapse and death. Materials and Methods: Retrospective record review of 147 patients that underwent inguinal orchiectomy from 1987-2007. Follow-up data was available for 102 patients (median follow-up: 80 months (0-243); 96 patients alive). Results: Mean patients age increased (p = 0.015) and more patients were diagnosed in clinical stage I (CSI) (p = 0.040). The fraction of yolk sac (YS) elements inclined (p = 0.030) and pT2 tumors increased (p I) showed a declined CSS compared to CSI patients (p = 0.055). The presence of YS elements was associated to an improved RFS (p = 0.038). Conclusions: In our single institution study the face of NSGCT markedly changed over 20 years even after the introduction of Cisplatin-based chemotherapy. These changes were accompanied by an improvement in RFS and CSS. When dealing with NSGCT patients such observations now and in the future should be taken into account

Der jährlich erscheinende Newsletter berichtet über Aktivitäten rund um Service User Involvement an Hochschulen im deutschsprachigen Raum. Sie finden in dieser Ausgabe folgende Beiträge: Zu Beginn berichten Bärbel Haag, Thomas Heidenreich und Bettina Müller von der Hochschule Esslingen über die neue Zusammenarbeit mit Bildungsfachkräften, die z. B. Input zu Inklusions- und Exklusionserfahrungen von Menschen mit Behinderungen teilgeben. Daran anschließen kann David Dörrer, der uns über das Annelie-Wellensiek-Zentrum für Inklusive Bildung an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Heidelberginformiert, an der Menschen mit und ohne Behinderungserfahrungen gemein-sam zu Querschnittsaufgaben der Inklusion forschen und lehren. Es folgt ein Bericht und Plädoyer aus Berlin von Reinhard Burtscher und Anne Schöbel über Lerner-Expert:innen, die durch ihre Erfahrungsberichte dem Thema „Alphabetisierung und Grundbildung“ ein Gesicht geben. Katharina Lutz und Benjamin Benz machen uns auf den Sozial-Wissenschaftsladen aufmerksam, der das gemeinsame Forschen für zivilgesellschaftliche Vertreter_innen, Praktiker_innen und Hochschulangehörige in Lehrforschungsprojekten und im Rahmen von Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten ermöglicht. Forschend geht es auch weiter mit Katharina Scholz, die sich mit Lehr-Evaluation für Seminare mit Beteiligung von Adressat*innen befasst und von neuen Vorhaben aus der HAW Hamburg berichtet. Kornelia Birkemeyer stellt das Projekt EX-IN vor, berichtet als Genesungsbegleiterin über die Kooperation mit der Hochschule Esslingen und liefert Antworten auf die Frage: „Warum brauchen Studierende von sozialer Arbeit die Hilfe von Service Usern?“. Um Gesungsbegleiter*innen als Teil eines trialogischen Konzeptes geht es auch bei der interaktiven Online-Plattform TriNetz, die von Christel Baatz-Kolbe und Christoph Walther vorgestellt wird. Die Plattform hat eine Lotsenfunktion und vermittelt zwischen Interessierten, Ausbildungsstätten und potentiellen Arbeitgebern. Bei Birgit Mayrhofer und Laura Ressler geht es gleichermaßen um die Peer-Arbeit von Genesungsbegleiter*innen. Sie stellen ihr Masterforschungsprojekt vor, das sich mit der Rollenkonstruktion der Peer-Arbeit befasst. Die Peer-Begleiterin Barbara Kohlmann vom Projekt „Upsides“ verabschiedet uns mit ihren Gedanken zu Peer-Arbeit in Zeiten der Covid-19-Pandemie. Exposure to negative socio-emotional events induces sustained alteration of resting-state brain networks in older adults
Basic emotional functions seem well preserved in older adults. However, their reactivity to and recovery from socially negative events remain poorly characterized. To address this, we designed a ‘task–rest’ paradigm in which 182 participants from two independent experiments underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging while exposed to socio-emotional videos. Experiment 1 (N = 55) validated the task in young and older participants and unveiled age-dependent effects on brain activity and connectivity that predominated in resting periods after (rather than during) negative social scenes. Crucially, emotional elicitation potentiated subsequent resting-state connectivity between default mode network and amygdala exclusively in older adults. Experiment 2 replicated these results in a large older adult cohort (N = 127) and additionally showed that emotion-driven changes in posterior default mode network–amygdala connectivity were associated with anxiety, rumination and negative thoughts. These findings uncover the neural dynamics of empathy-related functions in older adults and help understand its relationship to poor social stress recovery
Design and baseline characteristics of the finerenone in reducing cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in diabetic kidney disease trial
Background: Among people with diabetes, those with kidney disease have exceptionally high rates of cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality and progression of their underlying kidney disease. Finerenone is a novel, nonsteroidal, selective mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist that has shown to reduce albuminuria in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) while revealing only a low risk of hyperkalemia. However, the effect of finerenone on CV and renal outcomes has not yet been investigated in long-term trials.
Patients and Methods: The Finerenone in Reducing CV Mortality and Morbidity in Diabetic Kidney Disease (FIGARO-DKD) trial aims to assess the efficacy and safety of finerenone compared to placebo at reducing clinically important CV and renal outcomes in T2D patients with CKD. FIGARO-DKD is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, event-driven trial running in 47 countries with an expected duration of approximately 6 years. FIGARO-DKD randomized 7,437 patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate >= 25 mL/min/1.73 m(2) and albuminuria (urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio >= 30 to <= 5,000 mg/g). The study has at least 90% power to detect a 20% reduction in the risk of the primary outcome (overall two-sided significance level alpha = 0.05), the composite of time to first occurrence of CV death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, or hospitalization for heart failure.
Conclusions: FIGARO-DKD will determine whether an optimally treated cohort of T2D patients with CKD at high risk of CV and renal events will experience cardiorenal benefits with the addition of finerenone to their treatment regimen.

Biografieforschung: theoretische Perspektiven und methodologische Konzepte für eine re-konstruktive Geschlechterforschung
Die Biografieforschung bezeichnet einen komplexen Forschungsansatz, der auf eine lange Geschichte des wissenschaftlichen Interesses an "persönlichen Dokumenten" verweisen kann. Sie ist eine voraussetzungsvolle Forschungsperspektive, die sich in zentralen Aspekten ihres Vorgehens auf Biografien als theoretisches Konzept, als historisch-empirischen Gegenstand und als komplexe methodologische Strategie bezieht. Andere Begriffe, welche oftmals synonym gebraucht, in der Biografieforschung aber systematisch unterschieden werden, sind "Lebensgeschichte" und "Lebenslauf". Die Autorin skizziert die Perspektiven einer rekonstruktiven Geschlechterforschung innerhalb der Biografieforschung, wozu sie auf die Differenzierungen empirischer Forschung, die methodologischen Prinzipien sowie auf Datenerhebung und Datenanalyse eingeht. Sie hebt insbesondere drei Kontextrelationen bei der Interpretation eines biografischen Textes hervor: Biografie, Interaktion, kulturelle Muster und soziale Regeln. Das skizzierte Konzept von Biografieforschung begreift sie als ein offenes Programm, das vielfältige Anknüpfungspunkte zu aktuellen theoretischen Diskussionen in der Geschlechterforschung aufweist.
