Synthesis of hover autopilots for rotary-wing VTOL aircraft
The practical situation is considered where imperfect information on only a few rotor and fuselage state variables is available. Filters are designed to estimate all the state variables from noisy measurements of fuselage pitch/roll angles and from noisy measurements of both fuselage and rotor pitch/roll angles. The mean square response of the vehicle to a very gusty, random wind is computed using various filter/controllers and is found to be quite satisfactory although, of course, not so good as when one has perfect information (idealized case). The second part of the report considers precision hover over a point on the ground. A vehicle model without rotor dynamics is used and feedback signals in position and integral of position error are added. The mean square response of the vehicle to a very gusty, random wind is computed, assuming perfect information feedback, and is found to be excellent. The integral error feedback gives zero position error for a steady wind, and smaller position error for a random wind
Seventy years of sex education in Health Education Journal: a critical review
This paper examines key debates and perspectives on sex education in Health Education Journal (HEJ), from the date of the journal’s first publication in March 1943 to the present day. Matters relating to sexuality and sexual health are revealed to be integral to HEJ’s history. First published as Health and Empire (1921 – 1942), a key purpose of the journal since its inception has been to share information on venereal disease and its prevention within the UK and across the former British Empire. From 1943 to the present day, discussions on sex education in the newly-christened HEJ both reflect and respond to evolving socio-cultural attitudes towards sexuality in the UK. Changing definitions of sex education across the decades are examined, from the prevention of venereal disease and moral decline in war-time Britain in the 1940s, to a range of responses to sexual liberation in the 1960s and 1970s; from a focus on preventing sexually-transmitted infections, teenage pregnancy and HIV in the 1980s, to the provision of sexual health services alongside sex education in the 2000s. Over the past 70 years, a shift from prevention of pre-marital sexual activity to the management of its outcomes is apparent; however, while these changes over time are notable, perhaps the most striking findings of this review are the continuities in arguments for and against the discussion of sexual issues. ATLAS Z Excess in Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model
Recently the ATLAS collaboration reported a 3 sigma excess in the search for
the events containing a dilepton pair from a Z boson and large missing
transverse energy. Although the excess is not sufficiently significant yet, it
is quite tempting to explain this excess by a well-motivated model beyond the
standard model. In this paper we study a possibility of the minimal
supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) for this excess. Especially, we focus on
the MSSM spectrum where the sfermions are heavier than the gauginos and
Higgsinos. We show that the excess can be explained by the reasonable MSSM mass

Intellectual Property and Public Health – A White Paper
On October 26, 2012, the University of Akron School of Law’s Center for Intellectual Property and Technology hosted its Sixth Annual IP Scholars Forum. In attendance were thirteen legal scholars with expertise and an interest in IP and public health who met to discuss problems and potential solutions at the intersection of these fields. This report summarizes this discussion by describing the problems raised, areas of agreement and disagreement between the participants, suggestions and solutions made by participants and the subsequent evaluations of these suggestions and solutions. Led by the moderator, participants at the Forum focused generally on three broad questions. First, are there alternatives to either the patent system or specific patent doctrines that can provide or help provide sufficient incentives for health-related innovation? Second, is health information being used proprietarily and if so, is this type of protection appropriate? Third, does IP conflict with other non-IP values that are important in health and how does or can IP law help resolve these conflicts? This report addresses each of these questions in turn
Implications of large dimuon CP asymmetry in B_{d,s} decays on minimal flavor violation with low tan beta
The D0 collaboration has recently announced evidence for a dimuon CP
asymmetry in B_{d,s} decays of order one percent. If confirmed, this asymmetry
requires new physics. We argue that for minimally flavor violating (MFV) new
physics, and at low tan beta=v_u/v_d, there are only two four-quark operators
(Q_{2,3}) that can provide the required CP violating effect. The scale of such
new physics must lie below 260 GeV sqrt{tan beta}. The effect is universal in
the B_s and B_d systems, leading to S_{psi K}~sin(2beta)-0.15 and S_{psi
phi}~0.25. The effects on epsilon_K and on electric dipole moments are
negligible. The most plausible mechanism is tree-level scalar exchange. MFV
supersymmetry with low tan beta will be excluded. Finally, we explain how a
pattern of deviations from the Standard Model predictions for S_{psi phi},
S_{psi K} and epsilon_K can be used to test MFV and, if MFV holds, to probe its

Finitely presented wreath products and double coset decompositions
We characterize which permutational wreath products W^(X)\rtimes G are
finitely presented. This occurs if and only if G and W are finitely presented,
G acts on X with finitely generated stabilizers, and with finitely many orbits
on the cartesian square X^2. On the one hand, this extends a result of G.
Baumslag about standard wreath products; on the other hand, this provides
nontrivial examples of finitely presented groups. For instance, we obtain two
quasi-isometric finitely presented groups, one of which is torsion-free and the
other has an infinite torsion subgroup.
Motivated by the characterization above, we discuss the following question:
which finitely generated groups can have a finitely generated subgroup with
finitely many double cosets? The discussion involves properties related to the

CP Violation in Supersymmetry with Effective Minimal Flavour Violation
We analyze CP violation in supersymmetry with Effective Minimal Flavour
Violation, as recently proposed in arXiv:1011.0730. Unlike the case of standard
Minimal Flavour Violation, we show that all the phases allowed by the flavour
symmetry can be sizable without violating existing Electric Dipole Moment
constraints, thus solving the SUSY CP problem. The EDMs at one and two loops
are precisely analyzed as well as their correlations with the expected CP

Higgs boson enhancement effects on squark-pair production at the LHC
We study the Higgs boson effects on third-generation squark-pair production
in proton-proton collision at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), including
\Stop \Stop^*, \Stop\Sbot^*, and \Sbot \Sbot^*. We found that substantial
enhancement can be obtained through s-channel exchanges of Higgs bosons at
large , at which the enhancement mainly comes from , , and initial states. We compute the complete set of electroweak
(EW) contributions to all production channels. This completes previous
computations in the literature. We found that the EW contributions can be
significant and can reach up to 25% in more general scenarios and at the
resonance of the heavy Higgs boson. The size of Higgs enhancement is comparable
or even higher than the PDF uncertainties and so must be included in any
reliable analysis. A full analytical computation of all the EW contributions is
