Gender Roles (Statuses) and Indonesian Wowan
A gender role is a set of societal norms dictating the types of behaviors which are generally considered acceptable, appropriate, or desirable for people based on their actual or perceived sex or sexuality. Gender roles are usually centered on conceptions of femininity and masculinity, although there are exceptions and variations. The specifics regarding these gendered expectations may vary substantially among cultures, while other characteristics may be common throughout a range of cultures. There is ongoing debate as to what extent gender roles and their variations are biologically determined, and to what extent they are socially constructed.Islam looks at the woman as an equal, mature and capable partner of a man, without whom a family cannot exist and teaches that men and women are all the creation of Allah, existing on a level of equal worth and value. In some societies women are treated according to ancestral customs and tribal tradition, but in Islam they are treated with full respect and honor. Islam preserves women's honor and dignity, and requires that she must be treated with respect and honor. Her femininity should not be exploited in any way, rather she is to be regarded and treated as human individual whose sexuality does not enter into her relationship with any person other than her husband. In Islam marriage cannot take place unless the female freely agrees to it and a dowry is given to her. Islam puts priorities for the husbands and wives. The responsibility for providing for the family is on the husband, while the responsibility to care for the house and raising the children is on the wife. These are the main priorities, but cooperation between the husband and the wife is required and highly recommended. For both males and females, Islam requires that they wear proper, decent, modest, and clean clothes. Muslim women also are instructed by Allah in the Quran to wear as a minimum Hijab (head covering). At home, with her immediate family like her husband children, brothers, uncles, grandfathers and other males (family members who are forbidden to them to marry her), and with other women, a Muslim woman may take her outer garments off, and be free to beautify herself as she wants
THE HISTORICAL OF GROWTH ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSE
This study aims to understand English for Specific Purposes (ESP): a very significant branch of ELT that includes various linguistic efforts to define it, trace its historical growth, discuss its characteristics, and try to find out its scope and purpose. Although many conflicting views have been reported in defining ESP but there seems to be an eventual agreement that it is limited to teaching English to students who have specific goals and objectives: these goals may be professional, academic or scientific. Thus it is not a special discipline that is major in ESP but the specific goals of certain students. The same thing has been reinforced by discussions related to the absolute characteristics and variables. The historical growth of ESP has also been traced and it has been reported that although considered a modern approach, ESP textbooks exist even in the sixteenth century. It was found that the purpose of the ESP course was to enable students to function adequately in the target situation. Thus the ESP program must be directed towards the goal, directed by students and directed by the situation
INDONESIAN LANGUAGE AND ARTS
Indonesia is culturally rich. Indonesian art and culture are intertwined with religion and age-old traditions from the time of early migrants with Western thoughts brought by Portuguese traders and Dutch colonists. The culture of Indonesia has been shaped by long interaction between original indigenous customs and multiple foreign influences. In addition to these basic cultural sensitivities, religion plays a large role in Indonesian life and values. Over eighty-five percent of the people in Indonesia consider themselves Muslims, though their practices differ considerably from Islam as it's practiced in the Middle East. This is because of the rich texture of different religious traditions in the archipelago, from Buddhism and Hinduism to Chinese Confucianism to European Christianity to indigenous animist and ancestor worship practices. For many, the name of Islam is only the sheet that covers the shape of their ancestors' and communities' eclectic spiritual practices. The islands of Indonesia have been major trade hubs for over a thousand years, and each island has its own unique mix of religious traditions and practices depending on who decided to set port there. Therefore, while there are a few religious and spiritual practices that are practiced by a majority of the population, the main rule regarding religion in Indonesia is,"Judge not, lest ye be judged."? By and large, Indonesians are very friendly people, always willing to strike up a conversation and interested in connecting with foreigners. This can seem extreme to some travellers, particularly for those from Western cities where just looking at someone in the subway can be cause for angry glares. The arts of Indonesia are many, especially Indonesian paintings which are unique works of art. Indonesian culture, especially its architecture has been to a great extent dominated and influenced by the Indian, although European influences have also been particularly strong since the nineteenth century. Traditional buildings in Indonesia are built on stilts with oversized saddle roofs which have been the home of the Batak and the Toraja.Key words: Indonesian Tradition, Indonesian Arts and Language and Peopl
A STUDY ON ENGLISH SPECIFIC PURPOSE FOR ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
English can be due to demand of Indonesian in the field of business, technology, education, and research. The implementation of ESP has revealed some factors, such as students, teachers, and ESP materials that have significant influences on the quality of teaching and learning ESP. These factors require serious attention from stakeholders and ESP practitioners to improve the quality of ESP instruction. The government language policy might emphasize the curricula of formal schools and teachers training for ESP instruction. The quality of teacher of ESP is high contributing to accommodate the teaching and learning ESP course. Besides that, the materials of ESP should be formulated by practitioners of ESP who had knowledge of ESP instruction and the aim of ESP might concern on the improvements in students' proficiency in English. Thus, the students are being better in academic and professional in the work domain. English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is one of the predominant approaches to language teaching in tertiary education, as it is directed towards the specific needs of the particular specialty students. The paper deals with the role of needs analysis and materials evaluation adjusting ESP courses to the needs of students in tertiary education. Studentsâ needs analysis is a reference base for both the development of a new ESP course and alterations of an existing ESP course in the changing environment and demands for English language skills. Teaching materials determine the content of the course and affect teaching methods, studentsâ motivation, vocabulary and language functions taught. The evaluation of teaching materials allows the teacher to constantly improve the ESP course, to better adjust it to the changing needs of students. The theoretical considerations are supported by a survey of studentsâ needs and their evaluation of teaching materials. The results of the survey reveal whether the studentsâ needs are met in the ESP course they have attended. The implication of the survey results is that the most topical studentsâ needs, such as the development of productive skills, and especially speaking skills, do not change over time. Studentsâ evaluation of the tailor-made ESP course books is also presented, as well as some suggestions to make the ESP courses more attuned to students âneeds

LEARNING VOCABULARY USING FLASHCARDS FOR KIDS
The use of flashcards had affected the kidsâ activity in learning the words during the classroom activity. For examples, guessing and matching game in pairs were also effective to make the kidsâ motivation to learn getting better. Flashcards are so easy, so simple and so unassuming that learners often underestimate their power. In this case, the use of flashcards could help the kids to recognize the vocabulary of common nouns. Flashcards are quite effective because they promote the act of repetition. Because of their inherent simplicity, which weâve already talked about, flashcards easily lend themselves to repetition. Thatâs why theyâre so freakinâ awesome. Theyâre simple and unassuming, but they can pack a mean punch. Keywords: Teaching English For Kids, Vocabulary Teaching and Flashcard
The Social Meaning of Language and Dialect
The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others. Language is one of the most important features that separate humanbeings from the animal world. Language is directly connected withthought. Whereas dialect refers to a variation of a language that is characteristic of the users of that language, register refers to a variation of a language that is determined by use a situation or context. Dialects are different ways of saying the same thing; they reflect social structure (e.g., class, gender, and origin). Registers are ways of saying different things; they reflect social processes. Dialects are associated with the linguistic and cultural characteristics of the students who belong to the same broad linguistic group; registers are associated with the characteristics of the language (especially academic language) used in tests. Language as a source of measurement error addresses the fact that bilingual individuals do not typically replicate their capacities across language
