    RFID localization using special antenna technique

    In this paper, a RFID localization method using special antenna technique is presented. By using an active RFID system with external dipole antenna the angle and the distance from the antenna to the RFID tag can be found based on the principle of null steering. Compared with other techniques, this method has a number of advantages such as simple design, easy to implement, low cost and high reliability

    Amine-Promoted β-Elimination of a β-Aryloxy Aldehyde for Fluorogenic Chemodosimeters

    We previously reported a fluorescent chemodosimeter for ozone. The β-elimination step after the ozonolysis of the chemodosimeter was too slow to be practical for real-time monitoring of ozone. We examined primary, secondary, and tertiary amines at various pHs. It was found that pyrrolidine in pH 9 buffer could accelerate the elimination to generate a fluorescence signal. The elimination step is now sufficiently rapid to monitor ozone exposure in real time. We also discovered that azetidine was distinctly effective for the same elimination reaction in a pH 6 buffer

    Surfactant protein D (SP-D) plays an important role in innate and adaptive immune responses. In this study, we found that the expression of total and de-oligomerized SP-D was significantly elevated in mice with lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI). To investigate the role of the lower oligomeric form of SP-D in the pathogenesis of ALI, we treated bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) with ALI-derived bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and found that SP-D in ALI BAL predominantly bound to calreticulin (CALR) on macrophages, subsequently increasing the phosphorylation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and expression of interleukin (IL)-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha, IL-10, and CD80. However, anti-SP-D (aSP-D) and anti-calreticulin (aCALR) pretreatment reversed the SP-D binding and activation of macrophages induced by ALI BAL or de-oligomerized recombinant murine SP-D (rSP-D). Lack of signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT)6 in STAT6-/- macrophages resulted in resistance to suppression by aCALR. Further studies in an ALI mouse model showed that blockade of pulmonary SP-D by intratracheal (i.t.), but not intraperitoneal (i.p.), administration of aSP-D attenuated the severity of ALI, accompanied by lower neutrophil infiltrates and expression of IL-1beta and IL-6. Furthermore, i.t. administration of de-oligomerized rSP-D exacerbated the severity of ALI in association with more pro-inflammatory CD45+Siglec-F(-) M1 subtype macrophages and production of IL-6, TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, and IL-18. The results indicated that SP-D in the lungs of murine ALI was de-oligomerized and participated in the pathogenesis of ALI by predominantly binding to CALR on macrophages and subsequently activating the pro-inflammatory downstream signaling pathway. Targeting de-oligomerized SP-D is a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of ALI and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).</p

    BackgroundThe overall evidence base of anti-inflammatory therapies in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has not been systematically evaluated. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of anti-inflammatory therapies on glycemic control in patients with T2DM.MethodsPubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were searched up to 21 September 2022 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with anti-inflammatory therapies targeting the proinflammatory cytokines, cytokine receptors, and inflammation-associated nuclear transcription factors in the pathogenic processes of diabetes, such as interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-1β receptor (IL-1βR), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB). We synthesized data using mean difference (MD) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Heterogeneity between studies was assessed by I2 tests. Sensitivity and subgroup analyses were also conducted.ResultsWe included 16 RCTs comprising 3729 subjects in the meta-analyses. Anti-inflammatory therapies can significantly reduce the level of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) (MD = - 10.04; 95% CI: -17.69, - 2.40; P = 0.01), glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) (MD = - 0.37; 95% CI: - 0.51, - 0.23; P ConclusionOur meta-analyses indicate that anti-inflammatory therapies targeting the pathogenic processes of diabetes can significantly reduce the level of FPG, HbA1c, and CRP in patients with T2DM.</p

    Antithrombotic therapy for secondary prevention of unprovoked venous thromboembolism: a systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

    Extended antithrombotic treatment is recommended for secondary prevention of unprovoked venous thromboembolism (VTE), however, there is no consensus on which antithrombotic strategy is preferable. To compare the efficacy and safety of different antithrombotic strategies for secondary prevention unprovoked VTE. Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, and MEDLINE were systematically searched from inception to 22 July 2020 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared the efficacy and/or safety of extended antithrombotic strategies including aspirin, warfarin and direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) for secondary prevention of unprovoked VTE. The primary outcome was risk of major bleeding and the secondary outcomes were risks of recurrent VTE and all-cause death. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using pairwise and network meta-analysis with random effect. Possible ranking of extended antithrombotic strategies was plotted using the surface under the cumulative ranking curve and mean ranks. Seventeen RCTs met the inclusion criteria, and meta-analysis results showed that warfarin was associated with significantly higher risk of major bleeding than placebo/observation (OR 2.71, 95% CI 1.32–5.55) or apixaban (OR 10.65, 95% CI 1.06–107.13). Apixaban and low-apixaban were the top two strategies according to the ranking of major bleeding. Warfarin (OR 0.25, 95%CI 0.13–0.49), rivaroxaban (OR 0.18, 95%CI 0.03–0.90), apixaban (OR 0.18, 95%CI 0.04–0.85) and low-apixaban (OR 0.18, 95%CI 0.04–0.82) were related to significantly lower risk than placebo/observation; edoxaban was non-inferior to warfarin on the risk of recurrent VTE. Furthermore, apixaban was linked with significantly lower risk of all-cause death than placebo/observation (OR 0.29, 95% CI 0.09–0.88). Apixaban showed superiority to other antithrombotic strategies on major bleeding and all-cause death for secondary prevention of unprovoked VTE. Further studies are warranted owing to the limited number of studies and positive cases.Key messagesAll antithrombotic strategies including warfarin, DOACs and aspirin were superior to placebo/observation on recurrent VTE for secondary prevention of unprovoked VTE.Apixaban demonstrated lower risk of major bleeding than warfarin, and lower risk of all-cause death than placebo/observation.Further research about the efficacy and safety of antithrombotic treatments for secondary prevention of unprovoked VTE is warranted.     Pitting Corrosion of Thermally Aged Duplex Stainless Steels at Different Temperature for Long Time

    The pitting corrosion of three duplex steels (DSS), SAF2205, SAF2507, Z3CN20.09M thermally aged at 350 - 500 ℃ for 5500 h was investigated by the means of electrochemical techniques. The pitting potential (Ep) of thermally aged Z3CN20.09M specimens decreased with increasing of ageing temperature, however, the Ep of SAF2205 and SAF2507 thermally aged specimens decreased first and reached the lowest value at 450 ℃ and then increased slightly. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results are coincident with the potentiodynamic polarisation testing results. The variation in the charge transfer resistance of specimens coincided with the Ep values. There is little influence of low temperature (below 350 ℃) on resistance to pitting of SAF2205 and SAF2507 DSS. But, the pitting resistance of them degrades drastically ageing at higher temperature above 450 ℃. The deterioration in pitting resistance of thermally aged DSS specimens mainly attributes to the precipitation of Cr-rich α′ phases which affected by temperature markedly. At the range of 350 -500 ℃, the temperature the higher, the precipitation of Cr-rich α′ phases the more. The formation of G phases and the healing process during the long thermal ageing at 500 ℃ is the other reasons for the change in pitting resistance.</div

    In chickens, follicle selection is an important process affecting laying traits, which is characterized by the differentiation of granulosa cells and the synthesis of progesterone by granulosa cells from hierarchical follicles. By using Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) approach, we compared the transcriptomes of granulosa cells between pre-hierarchical (Pre-GCs) and hierarchical follicles (Post-GCs) to identify genes underlying chicken follicle selection. A total of 2,436 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), 3,852 differentially expressed transcripts (DETs) and 925 differentially expressed lncRNA transcripts were identified between chicken Pre-GCs and Post-GCs. For all of the significant DETs, the alternative 3′splice sites (A3) accounted for a maximum of 23.74% of all alternative splicing events. Three DETs of the 7-dehydrocholesterol reductase gene (DHCR7) named as T1, T3, and T4, differing in 5′untranslated regions (UTRs), increased in Post-GCs with different folds (T1: 1.83, T3: 2.42, T4: 5.06). The expression of the three DHCR7 transcripts was upregulated by estrogen in a dose-dependent manner, while was downregulated by bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) and transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1). Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) promoted the expression of the three DHCR7 transcripts in Pre-GCs at lower concentrations, while repressed their expression at higher concentrations. The data from this study may provide a reference for better understanding of the genetic mechanisms underlying follicle selection in chicken and other poultry species.</p

    Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare extramedullary parenchymal tumor composed of immature myeloid cells, occurring mainly in the lymph nodes, skin, soft tissue, testicles, bones, peritoneum, and gastrointestinal tract, and rarely in the pancreas. Herein, we report the case of a 68-year-old female patient who visited our hospital for medical assistance due to acute abdominal pain. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging showed a mass approximately 8 cm in diameter in the pancreatic tail, which was suspected to be a malignant tumor. To further assess the presence of distant metastases, the patient underwent fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET)/CT, which revealed an increased 18F-FDG uptake in the corresponding lesions. Subsequently, the patient underwent surgical treatment, and postoperative pathology and immunohistochemistry revealed that the mass was MS. Moreover, we reviewed the clinical features, imaging findings, and histopathology of pathologically confirmed pancreatic MS in the published literature.</p
