    We measure the ratio of cross sections, Οƒ(ppΛ‰β†’Z+2Β bΒ jets)\sigma(p\bar{p}\rightarrow Z+2~b~\text{jets})/Οƒ(ppΛ‰β†’Z+2Β jets)\sigma(p\bar{p}\rightarrow Z+\text{2 jets}), for associated production of a ZZ boson with at least two jets with transverse momentum pTjet>20p_T^{\rm jet} > 20 GeV and pseudorapidity ∣ηjet∣<2.5|\eta^{\rm jet}| < 2.5. This measurement uses data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.7 fbβˆ’1^{-1} collected by the \DO experiment in Run II of Fermilab's Tevatron \ppbar Collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The measured integrated ratio of 0.0236\pm0.0032\left(\mbox{stat}\right)\pm0.0035\left(\mbox{syst}\right) is in agreement with predictions from next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD and the Monte Carlo event generators {\sc pythia} and {\sc alpgen}

    Constraints on models for the Higgs boson with exotic spin and parity in VH→Vbbˉ\boldsymbol{VH\rightarrow Vb\bar{b}} final states

    We present constraints on models containing non-standard model values for the spin JJ and parity PP of the Higgs boson, HH, in up to 9.7~fbβˆ’1^{-1} of ppΛ‰p\bar{p} collisions at s=\sqrt{s} = 1.96~TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. These are the first studies of Higgs boson JPJ^{P} with fermions in the final state. In the ZHβ†’β„“β„“bbΛ‰ZH\rightarrow \ell\ell b\bar{b}, WHβ†’β„“Ξ½bbΛ‰WH\rightarrow \ell\nu b\bar{b}, and ZHβ†’Ξ½Ξ½bbΛ‰ZH\rightarrow \nu\nu b\bar{b} final states, we compare the standard model (SM) Higgs boson prediction, JP=0+J^{P}=0^{+}, with two alternative hypotheses, JP=0βˆ’J^{P}=0^{-} and JP=2+J^{P}=2^{+}. We use a likelihood ratio to quantify the degree to which our data are incompatible with non-SM JPJ^{P} predictions for a range of possible production rates. Assuming that the production rate in the signal models considered is equal to the SM prediction, we reject the JP=0βˆ’J^{P}=0^{-} and JP=2+J^{P}=2^{+} hypotheses at the 97.6%\% CL and at the 99.0%\% CL, respectively. The expected exclusion sensitivity for a JP=0βˆ’J^{P}=0^{-} (JP=2+J^{P}=2^{+}) state is at the 99.86%\% (99.94%\%) CL. Under the hypothesis that our data is the result of a combination of the SM-like Higgs boson and either a JP=0βˆ’J^{P}=0^{-} or a JP=2+J^{P}=2^{+} signal, we exclude a JP=0βˆ’J^{P}=0^{-} fraction above 0.80 and a JP=2+J^{P}=2^{+} fraction above 0.67 at the 95%\% CL. The expected exclusion covers JP=0βˆ’J^{P}=0^{-} (JP=2+J^{P}=2^{+}) fractions above 0.54 (0.47).Comment: 13 Figures, 3 Tables, 19 pages. Accepted by Phys. Rev. Let

    We present the first measurements of the differential cross section dΟƒ/dpTΞ³d\sigma/dp_{T}^{\gamma} for the production of an isolated photon in association with at least two bb-quark jets. The measurements consider photons with rapidities ∣yγ∣<1.0|y^\gamma| < 1.0 and transverse momenta 30<pTΞ³1530 < p_{T}^{\gamma} 15 GeV and ∣yjet∣<1.5| y^{jet}| < 1.5. The ratio of differential production cross sections for Ξ³+2Β b\gamma+2~b-jets to Ξ³+b\gamma+b-jet as a function of pTΞ³p_{T}^{\gamma} is also presented. The results are based on the proton-antiproton collision data at s=\sqrt{s}=1.96~\TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The measured cross sections and their ratios are compared to the next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations as well as predictions based on the kTk_{T}-factorization approach and those from the SHERPA and PYTHIA Monte Carlo event generators.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures, Submitted to Phys.     Measurement of the Ο•Ξ·βˆ—\phi^*_\eta distribution of muon pairs with masses between 30 and 500 GeV in 10.4 fbβˆ’1^{-1} of ppΛ‰p\bar{p} collisions

    We present a measurement of the distribution of the variable Ο•Ξ·βˆ—\phi^*_\eta for muon pairs with masses between 30 and 500 GeV, using the complete Run II data set collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton collider. This corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 10.4 fbβˆ’1^{-1} at s\sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV. The data are corrected for detector effects and presented in bins of dimuon rapidity and mass. The variable Ο•Ξ·βˆ—\phi^*_\eta probes the same physical effects as the Z/Ξ³βˆ—Z/\gamma^* boson transverse momentum, but is less susceptible to the effects of experimental resolution and efficiency. These are the first measurements at any collider of the Ο•Ξ·βˆ—\phi^*_\eta distributions for dilepton masses away from the Zβ†’β„“+β„“βˆ’Z\rightarrow \ell^+\ell^- boson mass peak. The data are compared to QCD predictions based on the resummation of multiple soft gluons.Comment: Accepted for publication in Phys.Rev.

    Measurement of the Electric Charge of the Top Quark in ttˉ\boldsymbol{t\bar{t}} Events

    We present a measurement of the electric charge of top quarks using ttΛ‰t\bar{t} events produced in ppΛ‰p\bar{p} collisions at the Tevatron. The analysis is based on fully reconstructed ttΛ‰t\bar{t} pairs in lepton+jets final states. Using data corresponding to 5.3 fbβˆ’1\rm fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity, we exclude the hypothesis that the top quark has a charge of Q=βˆ’4/3 eQ=-4/3\,e at a significance greater than 5 standard deviations. We also place an upper limit of 0.46 on the fraction of such quarks that can be present in an admixture with the standard model top quarks (Q=+2/3 eQ=+2/3\,e) at a 95\% confidence level.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys.     The ability to identify jets which originated from bb quarks is an important tool of the physics program of the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron ppˉp\bar{p} collider. This article describes a new algorithm designed to select jets originating from bb quarks while suppressing the contamination caused by jets from other quark flavors and gluons.
