Research Output on Strategy Formulation and Implementation: Global Picture, Development and Key Bibliometric Indicators
Effective strategic management serves as the bedrock for an organization's vision, goal attainment, and stakeholder expectations. Consequently, the research focus on strategy formulation and implementation has garnered substantial attention in recent decades. This study aims to evaluate bibliometric indicators of research productivity related to strategy formulation and implementation through meticulous bibliometric analysis. The analysis leverages the R Bibliometrix library on scientific publications indexed in the Web of Science database. The dataset comprises 672 publications on strategy formulation and implementation, spanning the years 1971 to 2022. Authored by 1,280 contributors from 69 countries, these publications are dispersed across 374 diverse sources, including journals and books. Impressively, this body of work has garnered a cumulative total of 24,635 citations, averaging 36.66 citations per document. The top-ranking article, "The Resource-Based Theory of Competitive Advantage: Implications for Strategy Formulation" by Robert M. Grant, stands out with 3,649 citations. Examining global scientific production, the United States emerges as the primary contributor with 154 publications (22.91%), followed by China with 56 (8.33%) and the United Kingdom with 54 (8.03%).
The study's findings offer valuable insights for researchers and organizations alike, shedding light on significant research contributions. This comprehensive assessment enables a nuanced understanding of the historical progression and growth within this domain. Additionally, it identifies current focal points of research and highlights areas that warrant attention in future studies
Phytochemical, antimicrobial and cytotoxicity screening of ethanol extract of Acacia ehrenbergiana Hayne grown in Jazan Region of Saudi Arabia
Purpose: To explore the phytoconstituents of Acacia ehrenbergiana Hayne as well as its biological effects.
Methods: Determination of phytoconstituents of ethanol extract of the plant was performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique. Antibacterial screening was conducted against the isolates of Gram-positive and Gram-negative microbes while the anti-carcinogenic properties of the ethanol extract on cancerous cells were investigated by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) cytotoxicity assay against breast MCF7, ovary cancer A2780 and colon cancer HT29 cells, respectively, in addition to normal MRC5 fibroblast cells.
Results: GC-MS analysis identified 15 different phytochemicals in the ethanol extract. The extract exerted significant antimicrobial activity with the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) in the range 1.56 - 6.25 and 3.12 – 12.5 mg/L, respectively, against all test bacterial strains. Cytotoxic activity, obtained by MTT assay, was 28.81 ± 0.99, 12.50 ± 2.50, 23.90 ± 0.74 and 50.58 ± 3.24 μg/mL, against the three cancer cell lines and normal fibroblast, respectively. MTT cytotoxicity results was further confirmed by clonogenic survival assay on MCF7 cells.
Conclusion: This study highlights the potential interesting ethnopharmacological applications of Acacia ehrenbergiana Hayne to treat drug-resistant pathogens as standardized extract.

Perspectives for a mixed two-qubit system with binomial quantum states
The problem of the relationship between entanglement and two-qubit systems in
which it is embedded is central to the quantum information theory. This paper
suggests that the concurrence hierarchy as an entanglement measure provides an
alternative view of how to think about this problem. We consider mixed states
of two qubits and obtain an exact solution of the time-dependent master
equation that describes the evolution of two two-level qubits (or atoms) within
a perfect cavity for the case of multiphoton transition. We consider the
situation for which the field may start from a binomial state. Employing this
solution, the significant features of the entanglement when a second qubit is
weakly coupled to the field and becomes entangled with the first qubit, is
investigated. We also describe the response of the atomic system as it varies
between the Rabi oscillations and the collapse-revival mode and investigate the
atomic inversion and the Q-function. We identify and numerically demonstrate
the region of parameters where significantly large entanglement can be
obtained. Most interestingly, it is shown that features of the entanglement is
influenced significantly when the multi-photon process is involved. Finally, we
obtain illustrative examples of some novel aspects of this system and show how
the off-resonant case can sensitize entanglement to the role of initial state

A Novel Quinazoline Inhibits Hsp90 Protein, EGFR and Induces Apoptosis in Leukemia Cells
The objective of the first part of this study was to investigate the Hsp90 protein possible activ ity of a novel quinazoline Her2/ EGFR inhibitor (Co mpound No. 1: 4-(2-(4-Oxo-2-thio xo-1,4-d ihydroquinazolin-3(2H)yl)ethyl)benzenesulfonamide) p reviously synthesized by a collaborating group. Heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) has a central ro le in regulation of several client proteins involved in cancers [1,2]. Several Hsp90 inhibitors of the natural or synthetic origin d isplayed potent anticancer activity [3,4]. Accordingly, Hsp90 emerged as an attractive target in the design of anticancer agents. To evaluate the binding mode of compound No. 1 into the ATPase site of Hsp90, a co mparative mo lecular docking study was performed using AutoDock 4.2. The results of this studywas compared with that of the co-crystallized ligand (ATI-13387X, Onalespib). The energy minimization process of the chemical structures of No. 1 was done following our previous report [5]. The results of the docking study revealed that No. 1 fit n icely into the ATPase site, and it displayed a binding free energy (Gb) of-7.21 kcal/ mo l and inhibition constant (Ki) of 5.19 µM to Hsp90, co mpared to Gb of-7.90 kcal/ mol and Ki of 1.62 µM for ATI-13387X. Furthermore, to confirm this result, the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) was devised to test the Hsp90 inhibition activity of No.1, wh ich was 51 nM co mpared to Rad icico l and 17AA G (1.8 nM, and 360 nM; respectively). Overall, co mpound No. 1 exh ibited pro mising Hsp90 inhib iting activity. The second part of the study focused on the effect of No. 1, Dinaciclib and their co mbinationsin HL-60 leukemia cells. The comb ination showed synergistic EGFR inhib ition effect in HL-60 cells. Moreover, No. 1, Dinaciclib and their combination caused a significant increase in the Sub-G1 co mpared to control and doxorubicin (24h), at the expense of S and G2/M cell cycle phases. Cyclin D3, was consequently inhibited by each of the two drugs, and synergistically by their comb ination in HL-60 cells. Furthermore, each of the two drugs downregulated Survivin, wh ich was synergistically inhib ited by the co mbination. In conclusion, co mpound No.1, Dinaciclib and their comb inations showed synergestic EGFR inhibit ion; and pro-apoptoticeffect in HL-60 cells.This project was funded by the deanship of scientific research, Umm Alqura University, KSA (DSR: 15-M ED-3-1-0060). LC-MS/MS Tandem Mass Spectrometry for Analysis of Phenolic Compounds and Pentacyclic Triterpenes in Antifungal Extracts of Terminalia brownii (Fresen)
Decoctions and macerations of the stem bark and wood of Terminalia brownii Fresen. are used in traditional medicine for fungal infections and as fungicides on field crops and in traditional granaries in Sudan. In addition, T. brownii water extracts are commonly used as sprays for protecting wooden houses and furniture. Therefore, using agar disc diffusion and macrodilution methods, eight extracts of various polarities from the stem wood and bark were screened for their growth-inhibitory effects against filamentous fungi commonly causing fruit, vegetable, grain and wood decay, as well as infections in the immunocompromised host. Ethyl acetate extracts of the stem wood and bark gave the best antifungal activities, with MIC values of 250 ug/mL against Nattrassia mangiferae and Fusarium verticillioides, and 500 ug/mL against Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus. Aqueous extracts gave almost as potent effects as the ethyl acetate extracts against the Aspergillus and Fusarium strains, and were slightly more active than the ethyl acetate extracts against Nattrassia mangiferae. Thin layer chromatography, RP-HPLC-DAD and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), were employed to identify the chemical constituents in the ethyl acetate fractions of the stem bark and wood. The stem bark and wood were found to have a similar qualitative composition of polyphenols and triterpenoids, but differed quantitatively from each other. The stilbene derivatives, cis- (3) and trans- resveratrol-3-O-b-galloylglucoside (4), were identified for the first time in T. brownii. Moreover, methyl-(S)-flavogallonate (5), quercetin-7-b-O-di-glucoside (8), quercetin-7-O-galloyl-glucoside (10), naringenin-40-methoxy-7-pyranoside (7), 5,6-dihydroxy-30,40,7-tri-methoxy flavone (12), gallagic acid dilactone (terminalin) (6), a corilagin derivative (9) and two oleanane type triterpenoids (1) and (2) were characterized. The flavonoids, a corilagin derivative and terminalin, have not been identified before in T. brownii. We reported earlier on the occurrence of methyl-S-flavogallonate and its isomer in the roots of T. brownii, but this is the first report on their occurrence in the stem wood as well. Our results justify the traditional uses of macerations and decoctions of T. brownii stem wood and bark for crop and wood protection and demonstrate that standardized extracts could have uses for the eco-friendly control of plant pathogenic fungi in African agroforestry systems. Likewise, our results justify the traditional uses of these preparations for the treatment of skin infections caused by filamentous fungi.Peer reviewe
Effects of hospital facilities on patient outcomes after cancer surgery: an international, prospective, observational study
Background Early death after cancer surgery is higher in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) compared with in high-income countries, yet the impact of facility characteristics on early postoperative outcomes is unknown. The aim of this study was to examine the association between hospital infrastructure, resource availability, and processes on early outcomes after cancer surgery worldwide.Methods A multimethods analysis was performed as part of the GlobalSurg 3 study-a multicentre, international, prospective cohort study of patients who had surgery for breast, colorectal, or gastric cancer. The primary outcomes were 30-day mortality and 30-day major complication rates. Potentially beneficial hospital facilities were identified by variable selection to select those associated with 30-day mortality. Adjusted outcomes were determined using generalised estimating equations to account for patient characteristics and country-income group, with population stratification by hospital.Findings Between April 1, 2018, and April 23, 2019, facility-level data were collected for 9685 patients across 238 hospitals in 66 countries (91 hospitals in 20 high-income countries; 57 hospitals in 19 upper-middle-income countries; and 90 hospitals in 27 low-income to lower-middle-income countries). The availability of five hospital facilities was inversely associated with mortality: ultrasound, CT scanner, critical care unit, opioid analgesia, and oncologist. After adjustment for case-mix and country income group, hospitals with three or fewer of these facilities (62 hospitals, 1294 patients) had higher mortality compared with those with four or five (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 3.85 [95% CI 2.58-5.75]; p<0.0001), with excess mortality predominantly explained by a limited capacity to rescue following the development of major complications (63.0% vs 82.7%; OR 0.35 [0.23-0.53]; p<0.0001). Across LMICs, improvements in hospital facilities would prevent one to three deaths for every 100 patients undergoing surgery for cancer.Interpretation Hospitals with higher levels of infrastructure and resources have better outcomes after cancer surgery, independent of country income. Without urgent strengthening of hospital infrastructure and resources, the reductions in cancer-associated mortality associated with improved access will not be realised
