A Model for Residential Building Energy Consumption Characteristics and Energy Demand: A Case in Chongqing
AbstractThis study adopts a bottom-up typical method to establish the microscopic model to simulate the urban residential building energy consumption. The model is composed of a three-hierarchy structure: a) the classification according to the climate; b) according to the energy use; c) according to the energy intensity. Based on the model, energy consumption of urban residential building in Chongqing is calculated as an example. The calculation results of the model and the actual energy consumption are compared and validated. The residential building energy consumption model can be used to analyze the energy consumption in the past years using the existing data, as well as the development trend of the related factors so that the appropriate energy saving measures can be selected properly

– The objective of this study is to improve student independence in learning biology by implementing Inverted Teaching Approach (Reciprocal Teaching) on Environmental Management material. This research is a classroom action research. This research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation of the action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were VII-G class students of SMP Negeri 5 Karanganyar in the academic year of 2010/2011. The number of the students was 32. The technique and instrumen of collectiing data were questionnaire, observation, and interviews. The technique of analyzing data was descriptive analysis techniques. Triangulation technique was used in data validation. The results proved that by implementing Inverted Teaching Approach (Reciprocal Teaching) students\u27 independence in learning biology enhanced. It is based on the results of questionnaires, observations and interviews. The questionnaire of students\u27 learning independence showed that the mean percentage of students\u27 achievement in each indicator in pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II was 67.97%, 72.55%, and 77.58% respectively. The observation of students\u27 learning independence showed that the mean percentage of students\u27 achievement in each indicator in pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II was 39.68%, 67.5%, and 80.62% respectively. It can be concluded that the implementation of Inverted Teaching Approach (Reciprocal Teaching) can enhance students learning independence
High-coverage whole-genome analysis of 1220 cancers reveals hundreds of genes deregulated by rearrangement-mediated cis-regulatory alterations.
The impact of somatic structural variants (SVs) on gene expression in cancer is largely unknown. Here, as part of the ICGC/TCGA Pan-Cancer Analysis of Whole Genomes (PCAWG) Consortium, which aggregated whole-genome sequencing data and RNA sequencing from a common set of 1220 cancer cases, we report hundreds of genes for which the presence within 100 kb of an SV breakpoint associates with altered expression. For the majority of these genes, expression increases rather than decreases with corresponding breakpoint events. Up-regulated cancer-associated genes impacted by this phenomenon include TERT, MDM2, CDK4, ERBB2, CD274, PDCD1LG2, and IGF2. TERT-associated breakpoints involve ~3% of cases, most frequently in liver biliary, melanoma, sarcoma, stomach, and kidney cancers. SVs associated with up-regulation of PD1 and PDL1 genes involve ~1% of non-amplified cases. For many genes, SVs are significantly associated with increased numbers or greater proximity of enhancer regulatory elements near the gene. DNA methylation near the promoter is often increased with nearby SV breakpoint, which may involve inactivation of repressor elements
Bayesian phylodynamic analysis reveals the evolutionary history and the dispersal patterns of citrus tristeza virus in China based on the p25 gene
Abstract Background Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) is one of the most serious threats to the citrus industry, and is present in both wild and cultivated citrus. The origin and dispersal patterns of CTV is still poorly understood in China. Methods In this study, 524 CTV suspected citrus samples from China were collected, including 354 cultivated citrus samples and 174 wild citrus samples. Finally, 126 CTV coat protein sequences were obtained with time-stamped from 10 citrus origins in China. Bayesian phylodynamic inference were performed for CTV origin and dispersal patterns study in China. Result We found that CTV was mainly distributed in southern and coastal areas of China. The substitution rate of CTV was 4.70 × 10− 4 subs/site/year (95% credibility interval: 1.10 × 10− 4 subs/site/year ~ 9.10 × 10− 4 subs/site/year), with a slight increasing trend in CTV populations between 1990 and 2006. The CTV isolates in China shared a most common recent ancestor around 1875 (95% credibility interval: 1676.57 ~ 1961.02). The CTV in China was originated from wild citrus in Hunan and Jiangxi, and then spread from the wild citrus to cultivated citrus in the growing regions of Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Fujian, Zhejiang, Guangxi and Guangdong provinces. Conclusions This study has proved that CTV in China was originated from wild citrus in Hunan and Jiangxi. The spatial-temporal distribution and dispersal patterns has uncovered the population and pandemic history of CTV, providing hints toward a better understanding of the spread and origin of CTV in China
A Robust Tool Condition Monitoring System Based on Cluster Density under Variable Machining Processes
Real-time tool condition monitoring (TCM) is becoming more and more important to meet the increased requirement of reducing downtime and ensuring the machining quality of manufacturing systems. However, it is difficult to satisfy both robustness and effectiveness of pattern recognition for a TCM system without using an unsupervised strategy. In this paper, a clustering-based TCM system is proposed that can be used for different machining conditions such as variable cutting parameters, variable cutters, and even variable cutting methods. The solution is based on a significant statistical correlation between tool wear and the distribution of cutting force features, which is revealed through the clustering results obtained from a novel clustering method based on adjacent grids searching (CAGS). This statistical correlation is converted into tool wear status by using an empirical factor that is robust for variable cutting processes. The proposed TCM system is completely unsupervised as a training-free procedure is used in the monitoring process. To verify the effectiveness of the system, a series of experiments are conducted, such as whole life-cycle wear experiment under same milling condition, tool wear experiment under variable milling conditions and tool wear experiment under same turning condition. The prediction accuracy of our system for tool wear experiment under variable milling conditions is 100%, 75% and 75%, respectively. In contrast, BP neural network, Bayesian network and SVM are used for tool wear prediction under the same conditions. Experimental results show the superiority and effectiveness of our TCM system based on cluster density of CAGS over several state-of-the-art supervised methods
Yiqi Huoxue Huatan formula attenuates inflammation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by suppressing the activation of PI3K/AKT and NF-κB signaling pathways
Purpose: To explore the mechanism with which Yiqi Huoxue Huatan formula regulates inflammation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods: COPD rat models (n=60) were procured and administered with prednisone and Yiqi Huoxue Huatan formula. Histological examination of lung tissues was carried out and bronchoalveolar fluid was collected for further analysis. In addition, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blotting were used to evaluate the expression of different genes and proteins. The study also assessed pulmonary functions in each rat. Results: The results showed that Yiqi Huoxue Huatan formula relieved the lung inflammation and helped to preserve alveolar structure, and its anti-inflammatory efficacy was superior to prednisone. Moreover, it significantly improved pulmonary function in COPD rats. This formula was shown to repress the activity of both PI3K/AKT and NF-κB signaling pathways. Conclusion: Yiqi Huoxue Huatan formula may be effective in treating COPD by attenuating local inflammation and improving pulmonary function
