Model-Based Method for Social Network Clustering
We propose a simple mixed membership model for social network clustering in
this note. A flexible function is adopted to measure affinities among a set of
entities in a social network. The model not only allows each entity in the
network to possess more than one membership, but also provides accurate
statistical inference about network structure. We estimate the membership
parameters by using an MCMC algorithm. We evaluate the performance of the
proposed algorithm by applying our model to two empirical social network data,
the Zachary club data and the bottlenose dolphin network data. We also conduct
some numerical studies for different types of simulated networks for assessing
the effectiveness of our algorithm. In the end, some concluding remarks and
future work are addressed briefly
A quasi-current representation for information needs inspired by Two-State Vector Formalism
Recently, a number of quantum theory (QT)-based information retrieval (IR) models have been proposed for modeling session search task that users issue queries continuously in order to describe their evolving information needs (IN). However, the standard formalism of QT cannot provide a complete description for users’ current IN in a sense that it does not take the ‘future’ information into consideration. Therefore, to seek a more proper and complete representation for users’ IN, we construct a representation of quasi-current IN inspired by an emerging Two-State Vector Formalism (TSVF). With the enlightenment of the completeness of TSVF, a “two-state vector” derived from the ‘future’ (the current query) and the ‘history’ (the previous query) is employed to describe users’ quasi-current IN in a more complete way. Extensive experiments are conducted on the session tracks of TREC 2013 & 2014, and show that our model outperforms a series of compared IR models
Fully Conjugated Phthalocyanine Copper Metal-Organic Frameworks for Sodium-Iodine Batteries with Long-Time-Cycling Durability
Rechargeable sodium-iodine (Na-I-2) batteries are attracting growing attention for grid-scale energy storage due to their abundant resources, low cost, environmental friendliness, high theoretical capacity (211 mAh g(-1)), and excellent electrochemical reversibility. Nevertheless, the practical application of Na-I-2 batteries is severely hindered by their poor cycle stability owing to the serious dissolution of polyiodide in the electrolyte during charge/discharge processes. Herein, the atomic modulation of metal-bis(dihydroxy) species in a fully conjugated phthalocyanine copper metal-organic framework (MOF) for suppression of polyiodide dissolution toward long-time cycling Na-I-2 batteries is demonstrated. The Fe-2[(2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-octahydroxy phthalocyaninato)Cu] MOF composited with I-2 (Fe-2-O-8-PcCu/I-2) serves as a cathode for a Na-I-2 battery exhibiting a stable specific capacity of 150 mAh g(-1) after 3200 cycles and outperforming the state-of-the-art cathodes for Na-I-2 batteries. Operando spectroelectrochemical and electrochemical kinetics analyses together with density functional theory calculations reveal that the square planar iron-bis(dihydroxy) (Fe-O-4) species in Fe-2-O-8-PcCu are responsible for the binding of polyiodide to restrain its dissolution into electrolyte. Besides the monovalent Na-I-2 batteries in organic electrolytes, the Fe-2-O-8-PcCu/I-2 cathode also operates stably in other metal-I-2 batteries like aqueous multivalent Zn-I-2 batteries. Thus, this work offers a new strategy for designing stable cathode materials toward high-performance metal-iodine batteries

Dynamics of social contagions with limited contact capacity
Individuals are always limited by some inelastic resources, such as time and energy, which restrict them to dedicate to social interaction and limit their contact capacities. Contact capacity plays an important role in dynamics of social contagions, which so far has eluded theoretical analysis. In this paper, we first propose a non-Markovian model to understand the effects of contact capacity on social contagions, in which each adopted individual can only contact and transmit the information to a finite number of neighbors. We then develop a heterogeneous edge-based compartmental theory for this model, and a remarkable agreement with simulations is obtained. Through theory and simulations, we find that enlarging the contact capacity makes the network more fragile to behavior spreading. Interestingly, we find that both the continuous and discontinuous dependence of the final adoption size on the information transmission probability can arise. There is a crossover phenomenon between the two types of dependence. More specifically, the crossover phenomenon can be induced by enlarging the contact capacity only when the degree exponent is above a critical degree exponent, while the final behavior adoption size always grows continuously for any contact capacity when degree exponent is below the critical degree exponent
