Self-consistent local GW method: Application to 3\u3ci\u3ed\u3c/i\u3e and 4\u3ci\u3ed\u3c/i\u3e metals
The spectral densities for 3d and 4d transition metals are calculated using the simplified version of the self-consistent GW method employing the local (one-site) approximation and the self-consistent quasiparticle basis set. The results are compared with those given by the traditional local density approximation (LDA) and also with experimental x-ray photoemission and inverse photoemission spectra. While no systematic improvements over LDA are observed, this fully self-consistent many-body technique generates quite reasonable results and can serve as a practical prototype for further development of the many-body electronic structure theory
Lattice instabilities of PbZrO3/PbTiO3 [1:1] superlattices from first principles
Ab initio phonon calculations for the nonpolar reference structures of the
(001), (110), and (111) PbZrO_3/PbTiO_3 [1:1] superlattices are presented. The
unstable polar modes in the tetragonal (001) and (110) structures are confined
in either the Ti- or the Zr-centered layers and display two-mode behavior,
while in the cubic (111) case one-mode behavior is observed. Instabilities with
pure oxygen character are observed in all three structures. The implications

Electronic and structural properties of superconducting MgB, CaSi and related compounds
We report a detailed study of the electronic and structural properties of the
39K superconductor \mgbtwo and of several related systems of the same family,
namely \mgalbtwo, \bebtwo, \casitwo and \cabesi. Our calculations, which
include zone-center phonon frequencies and transport properties, are performed
within the local density approximation to the density functional theory, using
the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) and the
norm-conserving pseudopotential methods. Our results indicate essentially
three-dimensional properties for these compounds; however, strongly
two-dimensional -bonding bands contribute significantly at the Fermi
level. Similarities and differences between \mgbtwo and \bebtwo (whose
superconducting properties have not been yet investigated) are analyzed in
detail. Our calculations for \mgalbtwo show that metal substitution cannot be
fully described in a rigid band model. \casitwo is studied as a function of
pressure, and Be substitution in the Si planes leads to a stable compound

Quasiparticle dynamics in ferromagnetic compounds of the Co-Fe and Ni-Fe systems
We report a theoretical study of the quasiparticle lifetime and the
quasiparticle mean free path caused by inelastic electron-electron scattering
in ferromagnetic compounds of the Co-Fe and Ni-Fe systems. The study is based
on spin-polarized calculations, which are performed within the
approximation for equiatomic and Co- and Ni-rich compounds, as well as for
their constituents. We mainly focus on the spin asymmetry of the quasiparticle
properties, which leads to the spin-filtering effect experimentally observed in
spin-dependent transport of hot electrons and holes in the systems under study.
By comparing with available experimental data on the attenuation length, we
estimate the contribution of the inelastic mean free path to the latter.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figure
Polymorphism: an evaluation of the potential risk to the quality of drug products from the FarmĂĄcia Popular Rede PrĂłpria
Polymorphism in solids is a common phenomenon in drugs, which can lead to compromised quality due to changes in their physicochemical properties, particularly solubility, and, therefore, reduce bioavailability. Herein, a bibliographic survey was performed based on key issues and studies related to polymorphism in active pharmaceutical ingredient (APIs) present in medications from the Farmácia Popular Rede Própria. Polymorphism must be controlled to prevent possible ineffective therapy and/or improper dosage. Few mandatory tests for the identification and control of polymorphism in medications are currently available, which can result in serious public health concerns
