"Measuring the Cost of Imperfect Information in the Tokyo Housing Market"
The cost of imperfect information is estimated in the real estate market of resale condominiums in central Tokyo by using a new, comprehensive data set of resale condominium transactions. The results suggest a substantial cost. Specifically, if information were perfectly available and marketing time is null, sellers would get benefits of 10.58% based on average interest rate, 31.28% on gross rent and 22.59% on net rent, against imputed rent of their property. Buyers spend 1,042,000 Yen on search activities for one transaction, which would be saved if information were prefect. This cost amounts to be equivalent to 13.2% of buyers' average annual income.
Two Concerns for City Information
Two concerns for city information are discussed. The first topic is the big data. Volume of information is increasing and sooner or later a better way to handle information may become necessary, that is to forget wisely. The second topic is the vague data. Casual information we often transmit is vague. A wiser operation to deal with vague data is essential. Both are the frontiers in studying city information
Portable wide-field femtoliter-chamber imaging system for point-of-care digital bioanalysis
ウイルス感染症の世界最速ポータブル遺伝子検査装置の開発 --臨床現場での即時検査への実用化に期待 --.京都大学プレスリリース. 2024-09-11.Recently, digital bioanalysis using femtoliter (fL)-chamber arrays has significantly improved the sensitivity, accuracy, and throughput of conventional nucleic acid and antigen tests, with great potential for the diagnosis of infectious diseases and underlying disorders. However, the large size of conventional platforms with costly assay consumables for digital bioanalysis complicates its use in point-of-care testing (POCT). To solve these problems, in this study, we developed a wide-field fL-chamber imaging system (COWFISH2), a portable wide-field femtoliter-chamber imaging system (footprint: 14 × 22 cm), by redesigning various electronic controls and optical systems of COWFISH, accompanied by the development of low-cost and durable consumables for digital bioanalysis. As a proof of concept, the point-of-care digital bioanalysis was successfully performed in a hospital setting, using amplification-free multiplex digital RNA detection of SARS-CoV-2, influenza A virus, and influenza B virus. Collectively, COWFISH2 will facilitate versatile and convenient digital bioanalysis in POCT, contributing to the improvement of public health, including the prevention of infectious diseases
An Optimized Photoelectron Track Reconstruction Method for Photoelectric X-Ray Polarimeters
We present a data processing algorithm for angular reconstruction and event selection applied to 2-D photoelectron track images from X-ray polarimeters. The method reconstructs the initial emission angle of a photoelectron from the initial portion of the track, which is obtained by continuously cutting a track until the image moments or number of pixels fall below tunable thresholds. In addition, event selection which rejects round tracks quantified with eccentricity and circularity is performed so that polarimetry sensitivity considering a trade-off between the modulation factor and signal acceptance is maximized. The modulation factors with applying track selection are 26.6 0.4, 46.1 0.4, 62.3 0.4, and 61.8 0.3% at 2.7, 4.5, 6.4, and 8.0 keV, respectively, using the same data previously analyzed by Iwakiri et al. (2016), where the corresponding numbers are 26.90.4, 43.40.4, 54.40.3, and 59.1 0.3%. The method improves polarimeter sensitivity by 5%10% at the high energy end of the band previously presented (Iwakiri et al. 2016)
Mathematical Characteristics of the ROXY Index (IV) : ROXY Index as Compared with Correlation Coefficient
The ROXY index serves as an instrument for the investigation into the stage and speed of the process of spatial convergence and divergence observed on various socio-economic activities. This paper investigates the basic mathematical characteristics of the ROXY index, focusing upon(i)the functional relationships of the ROXY index with the correlation coefficient and regression coefficient, and(ii)the similarity and difference between the ROXY index and correlation coefficient in mathematical characteristics, The results of the investigation show, as indicated in a summary table that the ROXY index possesses several characteristics advantageous to empirical analyses on the dynamic process of the phenomena of spatial redistribution of socio-economic activities

Effects of the prenatal and postnatal nurturing environment on the phenotype and gut microbiota of mice with polycystic ovary syndrome induced by prenatal androgen exposure: a cross-fostering study
The gut microbiome is implicated in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and prenatal androgen exposure is involved in the development of PCOS in later life. Our previous study of a mouse model of PCOS induced by prenatal dihydrotestosterone (DHT) exposure showed that the reproductive phenotype of PCOS appears from puberty, followed by the appearance of the metabolic phenotype after young adulthood, while changes in the gut microbiota was already apparent before puberty. To determine whether the prenatal or postnatal nurturing environment primarily contributes to these changes that characterize prenatally androgenized (PNA) offspring, we used a cross-fostering model to evaluate the effects of changes in the postnatal early-life environment of PNA offspring on the development of PCOS-like phenotypes and alterations in the gut microbiota in later life. Female PNA offspring fostered by normal dams (exposed to an abnormal prenatal environment only, fostered PNA) exhibited less marked PCOS-like phenotypes than PNA offspring, especially with respect to the metabolic phenotype. The gut microbiota of the fostered PNA offspring was similar to that of controls before adolescence, but differences between the fostered PNA and control groups became apparent after young adulthood. In conclusion, both prenatal androgen exposure and the postnatal early-life environment created by the DHT injection of mothers contribute to the development of PCOS-like phenotypes and the alterations in the gut microbiota that characterize PNA offspring. Thus, both the pre- and postnatal environments represent targets for the prevention of PCOS and the associated alteration in the gut microbiota in later life
