Electronic Cigarettes Vs. Regular Tobacco Cigarettes
Smoking is one of the most talked about subject in public health. the use of electronic cigarettes is becoming increasingly popular among smokers world wide. Smoking E- cigarettes is thought to be healthier than smoking regular tobacco cigarettes. As stated by the Centers of Disease Control and prevention (2014), cigarette smoking causes 480,000 deaths every year in the United States; that is about one in five deaths. Although, electronic cigarettes are being marketed and promoted as being healthier to smoke compared to regular tobacco cigarettes, electronic cigarettes are just as harmful to the human body as tobacco cigarettes are. For my thesis project, I am going to do a podcast. I plan on writing a descriptive script of information regarding my topic. Also, I will be working with faculty from the communications department as guidance on making a podcast. Doing a podcast on electronic cigarettes is a good way to provide information because there is not enough information of the health risks of electronic cigarettes. A podcast also provides a different way of obtaining the information for learners

Abstract:
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) arises from an external force affecting the brain, leading to a range of outcomes from mild to severe. Despite continuous scientific advancements, it continues to pose a persistent threat and remains a significant cause of physical impairment and mortality.
Various models, including blast-induced TBI (bTBI), have been proposed to simulate TBI. Laser-induced shockwaves (LIS) us emerging as an effective method. LIS generates shockwaves via pulsed laser-induced plasma formation, offering a controlled means to study TBI at the cellular level. Astrocytes, pivotal in maintaining brain function post-injury, undergo dynamic morphological changes, contributing to the understanding of injury responses and neurodegenerative diseases.
This study introduces a system combining Laser-Induced Shockwaves (LIS) and Quantitative Phase Microscopy (QPM) to quantify morphological changes in astrocytes during and after LIS exposure. QPM, a label-free method, facilitates 3D imaging and captures real-time cellular dynamics. The integration of LIS and QPM enables the assessment of astrocyte responses to shear stress caused by LIS, revealing immediate and sustained morphological transformations.
Analysis post-LIS exposure indicates significant alterations in circularity, volume, surface area, and other features. Statistical tests affirm of observed trends, providing insights into astrocyte responses to mechanical forces. The findings contribute to understanding how mechanical stimuli impact astrocyte morphology, holding promise for targeted therapeutic strategies in traumatic brain injuries and related neurological disorders. The integrated LIS and QPM approach serves as a powerful tool for 3D imaging and quantitative measurement of astrocyte morphological changes, offering deeper insights into cellular dynamics and potential therapeutic interventions
Barriers and Facilitators to the Integration of Mental Health Services into Primary Health Care: A Systematic Review Protocol.
Background Mental health is an integral part of health and well-being and yet health systems have not adequately responded to the burden of mental disorders. Integrating mental health services into primary health care (PHC) is the most viable way of closing the treatment gap and ensuring that people get the mental health care they need. PHC was formally adapted by the World Health Organization (WHO), and they have since invested enormous amounts of resources across the globe to ensure that integration of mental health services into PHC works. Methods This review will use the SPIDER (Sample, Phenomenon of Interest, Design, Evaluation, Research type) framework approach to identify experiences of mental health integration into PHC; the findings will be reported using the “Best fit” framework synthesis. PubMed, EMBASE, PsycINFO, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled trials (CENTRAL) will be searched including other sources like the WHO website and OpenGrey database. Assessment of bias and quality will be done at study level using two separate tools to check for the quality of evidence presented. Data synthesis will take on two synergistic approaches (qualitative and quantitative studies). Synthesizing evidence from countries across the globe will provide useful insights into the experiences of integrating mental health services into PHC and how the barriers and challenges have been handled. The findings will be useful to a wide array of stakeholders involved in the implementation of the mental health integration into PHC. Discussion The SPIDER framework has been chosen for this review because of its suitable application to qualitative and mixed methods research and will be used as a guide when selecting articles for inclusion. Data extracted will be synthesized using the “Best fit” framework because it has been used before and proved its suitability in producing new conceptual models for explaining decision-making and possible behaviors. Synthesizing evidence from countries across the globe will provide useful insights into the experiences of integrating mental health services into PHC and how the barriers and challenges have been handled. Enamel maturation: a brief background with implications for some enamel dysplasias
The maturation stage of enamel development begins once the final tissue thickness has been laid down. Maturation includes an initial transitional pre-stage during which morphology and function of the enamel organ cells change. When this is complete, maturation proper begins. Fully functional maturation stage cells are concerned with final proteolytic degradation and removal of secretory matrix components which are replaced by tissue fluid. Crystals, initiated during the secretory stage, then grow replacing the tissue fluid. Crystals grow in both width and thickness until crystals abut each other occupying most of the tissue volume i.e. full maturation. If this is not complete at eruption, a further post eruptive maturation can occur via mineral ions from the saliva. During maturation calcium and phosphate enter the tissue to facilitate crystal growth. Whether transport is entirely active or not is unclear. Ion transport is also not unidirectional and phosphate, for example, can diffuse out again especially during transition and early maturation. Fluoride and magnesium, selectively taken up at this stage can also diffuse both in an out of the tissue. Crystal growth can be compromised by excessive fluoride and by ingress of other exogenous molecules such as albumin and tetracycline. This may be exacerbated by the relatively long duration of this stage, 10 days or so in a rat incisor and up to several years in human teeth rendering this stage particularly vulnerable to ingress of foreign materials, incompletely mature enamel being the result
Integrating DNA damage repair with the cell cycle
Abstract
DNA is labile and constantly subject to damage. In addition to external mutagens, DNA is continuously damaged by the aqueous environment, cellular metabolites and is prone to strand breakage during replication. Cell duplication is orchestrated by the cell division cycle and specific DNA structures are processed differently depending on where in the cell cycle they are detected. This is often because a specific structure is physiological in one context, for example during DNA replication, while indicating a potentially pathological event in another, such as interphase or mitosis. Thus, contextualising the biochemical entity with respect to cell cycle progression
provides information necessary to appropriately regulate DNA processing activities.
