    ‚ÄúThey Have to Combine the Future of the University and Their Own Future‚ÄĚ:OpenCourseWare (OCW) Authoring as an Academic Practice in Spain

    This study looks at OpenCourseWare (OCW) in Spain, a country where most public universities have tried to promote that particular model of open educational resources (OER) provision among academics. Using three universities with varying levels of OCW activity as a case study, this article examines key drivers behind the implementation of OCW initiatives and unpacks what it means, as an academic practice, to engage in OCW authoring. Following a qualitative case study approach and a multi-methods design, this study offers a basis for theoretical generalisations that can be useful for understanding similar dynamics taking place within different organisational contexts in Spain and beyond. The findings reveal a major disconnect between the drive to implement OCW initiatives in Spain and actual opportunities for academics to engage with them as part of their work. The author concludes that the extrapolation of a highly prescriptive model of OER provision into institutional realities different from the context where it was originally devised‚ÄĒin this case, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States‚ÄĒis rather problematic. The article also provides some recommendations to university leaders and policy makers, encouraging the creation of alternative models that are mindful of the institutional and cultural specificities of their own contexts and also to take into consideration the social and material realities of the communities they aim to provide with lifelong learning opportunities

    The concept of 'Personal Learning Environment' (PLE) has generated considerable levels of attention among researchers and practitioners concerned with technology -mediated education. By introducing students and educators to this concept, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) may enable their communities to make better informed decisions on the resources they use in their day-to-day academic practice. Moreover, it may help them develop autonomy as self-regulated learners and enhance their agency in lifelong learning. This article is part of a study looking at the presence of that concept across the web domains of universities and other HEIs in Spain, a country that stands out due to the amount of research on PLEs it has produced. The article presents the findings of the first phase of the study and concludes that the concept is relatively well established in the Spanish HE arena. Nevertheless, the presence of the term is unevenly distributed across the sector, as it is higher among public universities and distance education institutions.El concepto de ‚ÄėEntorno Personal de Aprendizaje‚Äô ha generado niveles atenci√≥n considerables en el √°mbito de la tecnolog√≠a educativa. Familiarizar a estudiantes y docentes con dicho concepto es algo que puede ayudar a las instituciones de educaci√≥n superior a que sus comunidades tomen decisiones mejor informadas en cuanto los recursos que emplean para el desarrollo de su actividad acad√©mica. Asimismo, es algo que puede ayudar a los estudiantes a mejorar su autonom√≠a para la autorregulaci√≥n de sus procesos de aprendizaje y mejorar su agencia para el aprendizaje a lo largo de la vida. Este art√≠culo forma parte de un estudio que analiza la presencia de dicho concepto en los dominios web de universidades y otras instituciones de educaci√≥n superior en Espa√Īa, un pa√≠s que ha destacado por la cantidad de investigaci√≥n que ha generado en torno a esta tem√°tica. El art√≠culo presenta los resultados de la primera fase del estudio y concluye que el concepto de entorno personal de aprendizaje est√° establecido en el sistema de educaci√≥n superior espa√Īol.     En este art√≠culo se consideran los efectos que el conflicto inter√©tnico tuvo sobre las actividades de las poblaciones nativas instaladas en las tierras de los pehuenches (cuencas de los r√≠os Agrio y Alumin√©, actual territorio de la provincia de Neuqu√©n, Rep√ļblica Argentina) durante el siglo XVII. En una atm√≥sfera de violencia y en el marco de constituci√≥n de una zona tribal se instal√≥ una econom√≠a b√©lica y una variaci√≥n en los patrones de residencia y movilidad, traducidos en estrategias de distanciamiento y ocultamiento de personas y recursos ‚Äďla guerra de los silos‚Äď, combin√°ndose la retirada de la poblaci√≥n a posiciones de dif√≠cil acceso para colocarla fuera del alcance de las campeadas y malocas hispano-criollas con un mayor √©nfasis en la explotaci√≥n de recursos silvestres vegetales y animales.In this article, the effects that the interethnic conflict had on the activities of the native population settled on the land of the Pehuenches (basins of the Agrio and Alumin√© rivers, territory of the province of Neuqu√©n, Argentina, at the present time) during the 17th century, are considered.     The term independently-hosted is used here to describe online publishing practices that utilise the World Wide Web (hereafter the Web) as a decentralised socio-technical system, where individuals and communities operate as the owners or controllers of the online infrastructures they use in order to share content. Such practices may be adopted as an alternative of, or as a complement to, the use of centralised content-sharing systems that belong to and are entirely operated by third parties. The term 'publishing' is used here in a rather inclusive way and refers to the act of making content available online, rather than being restricted to the editorial processes that characterise, for instance, academic publishing.Victoria I.     La Tribu pantolytini en Andorra (hymenoptera, proctotrupoidea, diapriidae, beytinae)

    En el presente trabajo se estudian los ejemplares pertenecientes a la tribu Pantolytini (Diapriidae, Belytinae) procedentes de la localidad de Santa Coloma en Andorra. Todas las especies y géneros encontrados son nuevas citas para la Península Ibérica. Las especies halladas son: Acropiesta flavipes Kieffer, 1909, Anommatium ashmeadi Mayr, 1904, Acanopsilus heterocerus (Haliday, 1857), Psilomma dubia Kieffer, 1908 y Synacra (Synacra) sociabilis (Kieffer, 1904). Los ejemplares fueron obtenidos mediante una trampa Malaise colocada durante el período de Agosto de 1992 a Diciembre de 1993 en un entorno mediterráneo extremo a 1.050 m. de altura.The tribes Pantolytini in Andorra (Hymenoptera: Proctotrupoidea, Diapriidae, Belytinae). In the present paper, the authors study the specimens belonging to the tribes Pantolytini from Santa Coloma in Andorra. All the species and genus cited here are new records in the Iberian Peninsula.     Biocomposites Based on Thermoplastic Starch and Granite Sand Quarry Waste

    Granite stone is a by-product of the rock crushing manufacturing. An industrial waste in powder form that causes health problems and environmental pollution. Fine particles fraction can be used as a partial replacement of sand in concrete manufacture. In this work, an alternative exploitation of this waste fraction is proposed. Granite sand (GS) with particles mean size of ~1 őľm was employed as thermoplastic starch (TPS) filler at different concentrations. Biocomposites were obtained by melt-mixing and thermo-compression, achieving translucent and easy to handle films. A good GS dispersion within the matrix was evidenced by SEM. Mineral presence induced a shift of starch‚Äôs melting point to higher values and a better thermal resistance. TPS UV absorption capacity was increased ~90% by GS addition.
