Limit on Br(b→sg)Br(b\to s g) in Two Higgs Doublet Models

Using the recent CLEO measurement of Br(b→sγ)Br(b\to s \gamma), we find that the branching ratio of b→sgb\to s g cannot be larger than 10%10\% in two Higgs doublet models. The small experimental value of Br(b→eνˉX)Br(b\to e\bar{\nu}X) can no longer be explained by charged Higgs boson effects.Comment: 11 pages + 3 Figures (not included), ReVTeX, NTUTH-94-16 and NHCU-HEP-94-1

Despite progress on gender equity in US politics, female journalists and candidates do little to diversify debate agendas

Electoral debates can greatly influence the issue priorities of the public through the media’s agenda-setting function; however, debates have not always reflected the issue priorities of the public. As more women seek public office, little is known about gender’s role in shaping debate agendas. In new research examining questions from US presidential debates, Jason Turcotte and Newly Paul find that although female voters participating in debates refocus the agenda toward issues of greater consequence to women, female candidates and journalists fail to increase the emphasis on women’s issues. The implications of this mean that women’s issues are often muted in debates, and the presence of female candidates and journalists does little to foster greater diversity in issue focus

Juvenile Justice Encounters in an ASD Population

Background: Past research has shown that individuals in the juvenile justice system have high rates of behavioral and mental diagnoses. However, there are few papers that examined rates of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) contact with the juvenile justice system. Aims: The purpose of this study is to investigate rates of juvenile justice system contact in a population-based sample of youth with ASD, compare these rates to general population rate, examine these trends over time and describe the distribution of crimes committed by young offenders with ASD compared to the like-aged general population. Methods: Data used to identify the population with ASD were collected through enrollment in Medical Assistance and other Public Welfare programs. Youth with an ASD diagnosis between the ages of 10 and 21 in calendar years 2005 and 2011 were identified using at least one Medicaid claim for ASD in those years, and linked by a state juvenile justice office. Results: Negative binomial regression was used adjust rates for basic demographic characteristics and to contrast adjusted rates in the populations. Regression analysis showed that individuals in the ASD group were 6.13 times as likely to come into contact with the justice system and the risk of offending from 2005-2011 increased significantly. Should these patterns persist, the implication is that individuals with ASD in our sample are at a higher risk for juvenile justice system contact than the general population. More research is needed to identify the reasons behind these patterns as to appropriately inform potential policy and program recommendations.M.P.H., Public Health -- Drexel University, 201

The Effect of Top Quark Polarization at Hadronic Colliders

We derive a simple analytic expression for q \bar{q}, g g -> t \bar{t} -> b W^+ \bar{b} W^- -> b \bar{l} \nu_l \bar{b} l' \bar{\nu_{l'}} for on shell intermediate states with the interference effects due to the polarizations of the t and \bar{t}. We then investigate how this effect may be measured at Tevatron or other hadronic colliders
