In almost every part of the world, minority languages are being threatened with extinction. At the same time, dedicated efforts are being made to document endangered languages, to maintain them, and even to revive once-extinct languages. The book presents a comprehensive overview of language endangerment and revitalization. Among the examined aspects are: degrees of endangerment, definitions of language death, causes of endangerment, types of speakers in endangerment situations, methods of documentation. The book is of interest to a wide readership, including linguists, anthropologists, sociologists, and educators

There are restrictions on the combination of an adverbial clause with a main clause. It may or may not be possible to combine them, depending on their semantic and pragmatic nature. The relationships between an adverbial clause and a main clause can be divided into five types, which are termed the \u27five levels in clause linkage\u27. On the basis of the research on the five levels in clause linkage in Japanese, the present collaborative research project investigates the combinatory possibilities of adverbial clauses --- mainly causal, conditional, and adversative clauses --- and main clauses in close to 30 languages of the world
