Marketing Language in Tourism Discourse: Corpus Based Study on Personal Pronoun āYouā
This paper investigates the use of the personal pronoun "you" in tourism discourse through a corpus-based study of the Lonely Planet website. As a central element in engaging readers, the pronoun "you" serves to directly address and involve the audience, making the discourse more interactive and persuasive. By analyzing a comprehensive corpus of travel-related texts, this study examines how "you" is strategically utilized to create a personalized experience, guide the reader's journey, and establish a conversational tone in tourism content. The research uncovers patterns in the usage of "you" across various contexts and topics within the website, providing insights into its role in shaping audience perception and enhancing the effectiveness of tourism marketing. This study contributes to a better understanding of linguistic strategies in digital tourism discourse, offering valuable implications for both researchers and professionals in the tourism industry
Sign Elements of International Food and Beverage Logos
This research entitled Sign Element of International Food and Beverage Logos. This research analyses the sign elements of food and beverage logos and the interpretation of the sign. The company want to promote and inform their product by creating the logo. This research applies the semiotic theory by Charles Sanders Peirce to analyse the sign elements and its interpretation in the logos. This research use qualitative descriptive method in analysing the data. The data is 7 food and beverage logos which goes international. Those 7 food and beverage logos are McDonaldās, Starbucks, Dominoās, Pizza Hut, KFC, Coca-Cola, and Pepsi. The data source in this research were logo images that collected from the logoās official website and Wikipedia. This research will analyse the icon, index, and symbol of the logos as the sign elements by using Peirceās triadic theory. Then the interpretation of the sign will analyze by relating the representment, object and interpretant. The result of this research shows that there are 6 icons, 5 indexes, and 7 symbols sign used in 7 food and beverage logos. There is 1 logo that has no icon sign, 2 logos have no index sign, and all logos have a symbol sign. The meaning of the sign elements that found in the logos was represented by relating the representment, object, and interpretant
Analisis Kesinambungan Topik dalam Cerita Rakyat Melayu Batu Batangkup
Kajian ini mengenai kesinambungan topik dalam teks cerita rakyat Melayu Batu Batangkup. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tingkat dan darjat kesinambungan topik pada perangkat nahu dalam teks cerita rakyat Melayu Batu Batangkup. Kaedah kajian yang digunakan ialah kuantitatif-deskriptif dengan menerapkan kaedah dokumentasi dalam pengumpulan data dan kaedah interaktif untuk menganalisis data. Data dalam kajian ini berbentuk perangkat nahu pada klausa yang terdiri daripada anafora kosong, kata ganti nama orang ketiga, kata ganti nama milik, frasa nama definit, dan frasa nama indefinit yang bersumber daripada teks cerita rakyat Melayu Batu Batangkup. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa (1) representasi perangkat nahu terdiri daripada anafora kosong, ganti nama orang ketiga, ganti nama milik, frasa nama definit, dan frasa nama indefinit. Daripada lima perangkat nahu, anafora kosong memiliki tingkat kesinambungan topik paling tinggi (4.62) dan frasa nama definit memiliki tingkat kesinambungan yang paling rendah (9.19). (2) daripada lima perangkat nahu, empat memiliki kesinambungan topik yang rendah, iaitu ganti nama orang ketiga (7.28), ganti nama milik (8.40), frasa nama indefinit (9.13) dan frasa nama definit (9.19). (3) darjat kesinambungan tertinggi dimulai daripada perangkat nahu anafora kosong, ganti nama orang ketiga, ganti nama milik, frasa nama indefinit dan frasa nama definit
TABOO AND EUPHEMISMS IN BATAK TOBA CULTURE
Even though both are prohibitions, the terms taboo and taboo are two different things. Taboo causes violators to be plagued, while taboo only causes physical sanctions or social sanctions. To avoid violating the pronunciation of taboo words, substituting words or sentences that are considered taboo is carried out. Suppose spoken in a context to change the connotation of the consequences of the mention (euphemism). This study focuses on finding out what taboos and euphemisms are in the Toba Batak culture. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative by using observation and interview techniques. The study results found that there were five types of taboos and euphemisms found in the Toba Batak culture. First, taboos and euphemisms on gender {boru-boru > ito (woman), ripe > parnijabu (wife)}. Second, taboos and euphemisms are related to body parts {mapampang > hahurangan dipamatang (disabled)}. Third, taboos and euphemisms related to death {(mate > monding (death)}. Fourth, taboos and euphemisms are related to philosophy, religion or customs, such as the taboo on marrying a clan

Music is a form of communication used to convey emotions, ideas, and criticisms. It is the most significant cultural artifact of our time and the most pervasive artistic discipline in daily life. Individuals have a personal interest in music. It can bring joy to those who hear it. On the other hand, the music should relate to the visuals in the video clip, including color, sound, gesture, etc. This article analyzed and investigates the interpersonal significance of TO THE BONE. This descriptive-analytical study examined how various semiotics and modes, such as music, sound, speech, color, action, and facial expression, work together to create interpersonal meaning. The song is successful in capturing the attention of audiences around the world. The Singer is Indonesian. The majority of the song's lyrics are in English. The musical instrument and vocals are simple, but they can capture the attention of an international audience
Using a Video Project to Enhance Studentsā Speaking Ability
Speaking is a skill often considered the benchmark of studentās success in learning English. Many studies have been conducted to examine the approaches, methods, and media that work best in improving the studentsā speaking ability. One of the methods that can be used in teaching speaking is making a video project. This paper aims to find out how using a video project enhances the studentsā speaking ability. This study was conducted using a descriptive method, taking the students at senior high schools in Medan as the participants. The data were collected using an observation method. The data were analyzed to show how a video project was used in teaching speaking and how it enhances the studentsā speaking ability. The results indicate that using a video project in teaching speaking motivates the students to show their best speaking performance, eliminates their shyness and inhibition in speaking, and improves the studentsā speaking fluency in English. Thus, the results recommend the use of a video project as a good method in teaching speaking English to senior high school students
IKON, INDEKS, DAN SIMBOL DALAM MEME DI INSTAGRAM
This research discusses memes in digital form which are spread via the internet as a medium for conveying messages in a new form. The aim of this research is to describe and interpret the signs and meanings contained in memes, especially on the social media Instagram @hai.dudu, using Peirce\u27s semiotic concept which focuses on icons, indices and symbols. Next, we use Barthes\u27 semiotic concept which focuses on the meaning of denotation, connotation and myth. The method for collecting data is qualitative descriptive which focuses on data in words and images. This research uses documentation studies and interviews for data analysis using an interactive model. The research results showed that icons were found that depicted roles marked with special characters such as the characters dudu, momo, side. Next, icons were found depicting animals, objects, food and places. The index found based on expressions in images and text has a cause and effect relationship in producing meaning. In symbols, it is found to symbolize an event or action symbol, and is symbolic based on a word that has been agreed upon by the general public.Penelitian ini membahas tentang meme yang berbentuk digital yang penyebarannya melalui internet sebagai media penyampai pesan dalam bentuk baru. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan dan menginterpretasikan tanda dan makna yang terdapat pada meme, khususnya di instagram @hai.dudu dengan menggunakan konsep semiotika Peirce yang berfokus pada ikon, indeks, dan simbol. Metode dalam pengumpulan data, berupa deskriptif kualitatif yang berfokus pada data kata-kata dan gambar. Penelitian ini menggunakan studi dokumentasi dan wawancara untuk analisis data digunakan model interaktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ditemukan ikon yang menggambarkan peran ditandai dengan karakter khusus seperti karakter dudu, momo, sisi. Selanjutnya ditemukan ikon yang menggambarkan hewan, benda, makanan, dan tempat. Indeks yang ditemukan berdasarkan ekspresi pada gambar dan teks memiliki hubungan sebab akibat dalam menghasilkan sebuah makna. Pada simbol, ditemukan menyimbolkan sebuah kejadian atau simbol tindakan, dan simbolik berdasarkan suatu kata yang telah disepakati oleh masyarakat umum. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa meme yang diunggah oleh akun haidudu banyak menyangkut persoalan yang berhubungan dengan kehidupan sehari-hari.
 
Spanduk Penolakan Vaksin Covid-19: Kajian Semiotik Multimodal
The purpose of this study was to see the meaning of the Covid-19 vaccine rejection advertisement or banner on social media on the @Indonesian_flatearth_society account. The method used in this research was qualitative method. The method to analyze using semiotic analysis of verbal and visual communication by Kress van Leeuwen. The analytical technique used in this research was reading image. The source of this research data was taken from the Covid-19 vaccine rejection campaign advertisement on Instagram social media "Indonesian_flatearth_sociaty". The data for this research were advertisement images or banners for the rejection of the Covid-19 vaccine on social media on the @Indonesian_flatearth_society account which was uploaded on December 10, 2020 and June 14, 2021. The results of the discussion of this study were semiotic multimodal studies that can be carried out using reading images technique. Each image have representational and interactive meaning that could be analyzed through Kress and van Leeuwen's 3 systems, namely information value, salience (bulge), and framing (frame). The Schematic Structure of North Sumatran Folktales
This research aimed to analyze the schematic structure of North Sumatran folktales by using the Systemic Functional Linguistic approach and the concept of the narrative genre. Descriptive qualitative research methods were used. The data were collected through documentation and the data were analyzed using the interactive model proposed by Miles, Huberman and Saldana. The researchers asked English university students to write North Sumatran folktales based on the narrative genre. The research data were in the form of clauses taken from these writings. In analyzing the data, the researchers labeled the clauses based on experiential function and the text was then identified by schematic structure of the narrative genre. The schematic structure of the North Sumatran folktales written by the English university students consisted of the following stages: orientation (OR), sequence of events (Ev), stating problems (Pr), resolution (Re), and coda (Co). Hybrid Marriage Breakdown in Hamkaās Novel Merantau Ke Deli
The two main characters in the novel, a man from Minang ethnic and a Javanese woman, meet and unite in a hybrid marriage institution, referring to the concept of combining two objects in one unit, part of a cultural hybrid and then analyzed through descriptive qualitative method reviewing the existence of marriage of different ethnics, part of a social problem in accordance with the function of literature as a medium for disclosure of social problems. Data and sources of data obtained are novels and words, phrases and sentences in the novel pointing to the discussion points. Tolerance, mutual understanding, solidarity, mutual support and not disputing cultural background are the main requirements in carrying out a hybrid marriage and all these requirements do not exist enough in the male character of this novel and eventually the marriage experiences a severe shock and ends in divorce. Disclosure of causal factors is the purpose of this study and the results are the norms of cultural traditions conveyed by a group of people and self-centeredness triggers the breakdown of the marriage.
