    Improving Students' Pronunciation By Using Minimal Pairs Drill In Junior High School

    This research was conducted using Classroom Action Research to improve students' English pronunciation by using minimal pairs drill technique. The subject of this research was the eight grade students in class F of SMP Negeri 2 Pontianak which consisted of 35 students. This research was done in two cycles. The first cycle was done on April 30th 2016 and the second cycle was done on May 3rd 2016 in which the meeting end for forty-five minutes. To obtain the data, the writer administered oral test to pronounced some words in every cycle. The writer also used observation checklist table and field notes were applied to reflect the students' improvement in their pronunciation in every cycle. In the first cycle, the students' mean score was 62.42 which categorized as ‘good' but it was not satisfying. Then, in the second cycle, the students' mean score was 81.86 which categorized as ‘excellent' and it was satisfying. Based on the students' mean score, it was found that the students' pronunciation improved from the first cycle to the second cycle

    Designing Computer-based Summative Test for the Eleventh Grade Students

    This study aimed at designing Computer-Based Summative Test software as a tool to support English Test. To make sure that the learning objectives are fulfilled, the testing materials should be in line with the curriculum and learners' needs. This study was attempted to design reading testing software based on teachers' and students' needs. The software was designed because it can solve the testing problems. In this research, the researcher uses ADDIE approach where the participants are the teachers and the eleventh grade students of SMA Sentosa Pemangkat. This study found that students' summative tests need a new testing system which can randomize test items and fasten test result publishing. The result showed that the software can be used by the teacher and students as a software to test students' reading achievement in summative test. The researcher suggests that the teachers use this software to help them in testing

    Improving Students\u27 Motivation In Speaking By Using Role Play In Video Modelled Conversation (Vmc)

    : Role play in Video Modelled Conversation are proposed in the teaching of speaking not only because of their appealing forms but also due to their salient features, as multimedia to improve the students\u27 motivation in speaking. This study investigated students\u27 motivation by using Dornyei\u27s framework of language learning motivation. A questionnaire and a semi-structured interview were also employed as a means of collecting the data through a classroom action research. The procedures included planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The results showed that teaching speaking using Role Play in Video Modelled Conversations could successfully improve students motivation in speaking. They find this technology can enhance their English learning motivation and effectively boost their English speaking ability

    An Analysis On Factors Causing Undergraduate Students' Difficulties In Writing Thesis

    The purpose of this research is to find out the most causing factor of undergraduate students' difficulties in writing thesis in the English Education Study Program of FKIP Tanjungpura University Pontianak. Descriptive research design was used in this research. 28 students were chosen as the sample and selected by using purposive sampling. The data was collected by using questionnaire with 31 items designed on a five-point likert-type scale to capture students' opinion about the causing factors of their difficulties in writing thesis. Data analysis shows that basic knowledge of thesis main components factor has percentage 27.68%, process of consultation factor has percentage 26.04%, psychological factor has percentage 25.25%, while economic factor has percentage 21.03%. Therefore, it is concluded that basic knowledge of thesis main component factor is the most causing factor of students' difficulties in writing thesis

    The aim of this research is to explore an extracurricular activity for English subject in a school which is called with English Club. Besides, the writer also wanted to know the contribution of the English club on the students\u27 English learning. Therefore, the writer used a descriptive method in this research. After conducting the research, the writer found a lot of information about the English club. In the English club, it is not a compulsory for the students to join the English club. In other word, the students are free whether they want to join the English club or not. Then, in the English club, the students do any activities that can promote their English learning. And, the average scores of the students who join the English club is higher than the students who do not join the English club
