    The Implementation of Word Mapping Strategy to Increase Students' Vocabulary Mastery at the First Grade Students of SMA N 1 Rumbia Lampung Tengah

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat peningkatan kemampuan penguasaan kosakata setelah pembelajaran dengan menggunakan strategi word mapping. Desain penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 32 siswa kelas X IPS 3. Tes kosakata dalam bentuk pilihan ganda digunakan sebagai alat pengambilan data. Hasil menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan secara statistik pada kemampuan penguasaan kosakata siswa dengan tingkat signifikansi 0.00 < 0.05. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran menggunakan strategi word mapping dapat membantu siswa untuk mengembangkan kosakata dengan mudah dan membantu memahami teks yang diberikan.The aim of this study was to find out whether there was a statistically significant improvement of the students' vocabulary mastery after the students were taught through word mapping strategy. This research was quantitative research. The subjects of this research were 32 students of class X IPS 3. The vocabulary test in the form of multiple choice was administrated as the instrument of this research. The result showed that there was a statistically significant improvement of the students' vocabulary mastery with the significant level < 0.05. It could be inferred that teaching activity through word mapping strategy facilitates the students to develop the vocabulary and to understand the text easily

    The Analysis Of Students’ Error

    Negative and interrogative forms are the important elements of Englishgrammars that have to be mastered by SMP students. The learners need to havesubtantial capability of English grammar in order that they are able to speak andwrite correctly.Therefore, the objectives of this research are (1) to identify the frequencies ofoccurance of the students’ grammatical errors based on surface strategy taxonomyfound in their sentences, (2) to identify the frequencies of occurance of students’grammatical errors based on developmental category that are found in theirsentences, and (3) to find out which types of errors were mostly made by thestudents. Descriptive method was used in this research, where the data were takenfrom the students to draw conclusions. This research was conducted at SMPNegeri 8 bandar Lampung. The subject of the research was class VIII.H consistingof 34 students. The data gained were further analyzed based on surface strategytaxonomy and developmental category.Having analyzed the data, it is found that the students commited four types oferrors based on surface strategy taxonomy and developmental category, thehighest frequency of error types based on surface strategy taxonomy ismisformation error (63,17%) followed by misordering errors (23,36%), additionerrors (11,34%) and misordering errors (2,27%). While based on thedevelopmental category, the errors are: pre-systematic stage (44,75%), systematicstage (33,14%) and post-systematic stage (22,09%).The result shows that the highest number of errors occured is misformation. ThisIndicates that students have more serious problems in using grammar especiallytenses in present tenses. They might also be influenced by Indonesian grammar.And based on developmental category the most frequent errorr occured is presystematicstage. This might be due to the students’ lack of knowledge aboutgrammar. The errors students produced were possibly caused by some factorssuch as insufficient grammar mastery, lack of knowledge of present tenses andlack of awareness. In line with the result, it is suggested that English teachersshould not ignore the errors made by them. The teachers can give remedialteaching for the students and provide some tasks or exercises which enable themto practice using tenses

    Increasing Students’ Vocabulary Through Scrabble Game

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menemukan apakah ada perbedaan yang terjadi pada kosakata siswa setelah belajar menggunakan scrabble. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain one group pretest posttest. Sample yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sebelas pada tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa nilai rata-rata pra tes para siswa yaitu 57,24 dan nilai rata-rata pasca tes yaitu 71,15. Dengan demikian ditemukan adanya peningkatan signifikan sebesar 13,91. Peneliti menggunakan level signifikan 0.05. Hasil penghitungan menunjukan bahwa nilai dua signifikan yaitu 0,000. Jadi hipotesis pada penelitian ini diterima. Itu membuktikan bahwa nilai para siswa meningkat secara signifikan (p<0.05,p=0.000). Dengan kata lain adanya perbedaan yang signifikan pada  kosakata para siswa setelah belajar melalui scrabble. Oleh karena itu, permainan scrabble dianjurkan untuk digunakan oleh guru dalam meningkatkan prestasi kosakata para siswa.The objective of this research is to find out whether there is any difference of the students’ vocabulary achievement after being taught through scrabble. This research applies one group pretest-posttest design. The sample of the research is the grade XI students in academic year of 2013/2014. The results show that the students’ mean score of the pretest was 57.24 and the mean score of the posttest was 71.15. It was found that there was a significant increase 13.91. The researcher uses the level of significant 0.05. The result of the computation shows the value of two tailed significance was 0.000. So that the Hypothesis in this research was accepted. It proved that the students’ scores were significantly increase (p<0.05, p= 0.000). In other words, there is a significant difference of the student’s vocabulary after being taught through scrabble. Therefore, scrabble game is recommended to be used by the teacher in increasing the students’ vocabulary achievement

    Teaching Procedure Text Through Series Pictures to Improve Students’ Speaking Performance

    Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat peningkatan signifikan dari performa berbicara siswa setelah pembelajaran melalui gambar berseri. Desain pre-test dan post-test satu kelompok digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan dari pencapaian siswa dalam performa berbicara sebelum dan sesudah pembelajaran melalui serial gambar. Nilai rata-rata dari pre-test adalah 57 dan post-test adalah 84. Dengan membandingkan rata-rata dari pre-test dan post-test, itu dapat diketahui bahwa peningkatan rata-rata adalah 27. Ini membuktikan bahwa skor siswa meningkat dengan signifikan karena p<0.05 (p=0.000). Berdasarkan data, ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan dari pencapaian siswa dalam performa berbicara sebelum dan sesudah pembelajaran melalui gambar berseri. Oleh karena itu, mengajar menggunakan gambar berseri dianjurkan untuk digunakan oleh para guru agar meningkatkan performa berbicara siswa.The objective of this research is to know whether there is a significant improvement of the students’ speaking performance after being taught through series pictures. The one group pre-test and post-test design was used in this research. The result of the research proved that there is a significant difference of students’ achievement in speaking performance before and after being taught through series pictures.The mean score of pre-test was 57 and post-test was 84. By comparing between the mean of pre-test and post-test, it can be found that the increase of the mean was 27. It proved that the students’ scores increase significantly because p<0.05 (p=0.000). Based on the data, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference of students’ achievement in speaking performance before and after being taught through series pictures. Therefore, series pictures is recommended to be used by teachers to improve the students’ speaking performance
